  1. Our offense could clearly use his bat at this point. We covered for him well until now but we need him back.
  2. So, have the Sox decided to let Maggs sit till after the all-star game? What's the word out there?
  3. The audio feed from mlb.com must be like 2 minutes behind. You guys are posting like 3 pitches ahead of what I hear.
  4. It's not that he's underappreciated its that most of us recognize that if we sign him for $14-$15 million it will make it so we have to let go a couple other major contributors. Those who think we should be paying Maggs this much better have an idea of who they think we should dump in order to keep salaries at JR levels.
  5. Thanks to Ross Gloads outfeilding we're lossign the game how many time does he have to spin around to catch the ball? Thank god he hit that double to score two runs.
  6. It took me about 30 minutes to read thru this thread. I'm still contemplating the impact of this deal. At a simple level, if we don't resign Garcia this is a very bad deal. If we resign him for less than $10 million per year its not so bad a deal. Garcia is not worth 1/6 our payroll. He's good but not that good. KW must have his sights set on another catcher. There's no way he's planning on this three-headed monster doing all the work the rest of the year. I like Miguel Olivo but there's been a ridiculous amount of overstating his ability in this thread. He has a great arm, good speed, a mediocre bat, and poor game management skills. I'm not saying he sucked because I did think he was our best catcher, but there's no way he's can be considered irreplaceable and all-star prognostications are incredibly optimistic. He's never going to be Ivan Rodriguez, Jorge Posada,or Javy Lopez. And, he doesn't have the promise of Joe Mauer or Victor Martinez. Despite my feelings there, KW paid a high price. We better resign Freddie and we better find a starting catcher. I credit KW for his guts. I hope there's a method behind his madness.
  7. I can't argue with you on how many of these guys have any kind of shot at making the majors, yet, at the same time I think its kind of fun to follow how they do.
  8. That Bristol story was written by a guy named "Bucky Dent." Very interesting...
  9. I've heard this stuff about Wunsch being in the doghouse all year. What did he do? He was almost unhittable at times last year, along with Marte.
  10. That's exactly what I was going to propose. Pass it along everyone. :fthecubs
  11. Good to see a nice outing from Adam Russell, 3 IP in relief with 4 K's and O runs. I like this guy's stuff. He could be a surprise as a low round pick.
  12. He sure loves hitting those game winners. He's been the heart and soul of this team for a number of years.
  13. I'm glad I missed most of this one. Blowing an 8-run lead must have given you all heartburn. It's time for a cold one. YYYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I agree that they should trade Borchard before Reed, though, I'm not sure Reed has the arm to replace Mags in RF.
  15. I don't think the Rockies would make the trade either. But, don't use Chacon's stats from this year. He's been thrown into the bullpen as the team's closer because the Rockies are managed by a bunch of incompetent yu-hoos. Look at last year, Chacon playing for a miserable team in a miserable park... 2003 Col 23 games 137 IP 124 H, 58 BB. 93 SO, 11 W 8 L 4.60 ERA And, he's only 26. It's not as bad a deal as you guys are making it out to be for the White Sox. And, unlike the silly rent-a-player ideas, these guys you can actually build around. Jason Jennnings is only 25 and as you can see by visiting here... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?statsId=6785 he's had success already in the big leagues. It won't happen but it's not that bad an idea.
  16. Gammons lists six trades that he thinks make sense. One of them involves us... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1825878 "The White Sox trade outfielder Jeremy Reed and pitcher Jon Rauch to Colorado for pitchers Jason Jennings and Shawn Chacon." This is interesting in a way. Both Jennings and Chacon have looked awful this year but both have also shown some great talent in the past. And, maybe, outside of Coors Field they would flourish. Chacon is a starter no matter what the Rockies think.
  17. KW isn't to blame on the Maggs deal. If he's only given a $60 million budget, he can't spend 1/4 on one player. This one is all about budget and KW doesn't make that decision. And, having witnessed this year's Soxfest question and answer that Steff and others spoke at I thought KW handled himself just fine. I don't remember him ever blaming attendance for the budget constraints. KW might have been a little feistier than he should have been with fans but I didn't think he was dishonest.
  18. Details please... (for us out-of-towners)
  19. Don't they have to technically wait until Ricks' college season is done?
  20. Tom Paciorek is a man of true honor. It's too bad those who lead our country don't have the same honor and dignity as he does.
  21. It's time for everyone to take a pill. We are fine. It sucks to lose 2 out of three to the f***ing Expos but the Red Sox lost two out of three to the Rockies this week too. This crap happens during a long season. There are so many things about this year's team that are better than last year's team. The best decision KW has made as a GM was to hire Ozzie and frankly when he made it I was concerned. Managing a baseball game is anything but an exact science. Try managing a little league team. Even at that level you will see how difficult it is. I remain convinced that we will bounce back and I am also glad that KW is being patient. He screws up when he loses patience. You make deals when the deals are right. You don't make deals out of desperation. Often times, I read these threads after games and I wonder how you people can handle the day to day ups and downs of life. It's a 162 game schedule and even if we have a great season we will likely lose 70 games. Get used to it. Your family members will appreciate it.
