  1. Its hard to argue that anybody has been better or as good as Papelbon, cause his stats are just plain sick. But Jenks has been simply awesome this year. Let me put it this way: I can't remember another Sox closer, with the possible exception of Thigpen in 1990, that I was more comfortable with coming into a game, no matter what the circumstance.
  2. Wow, someone in the media finally held Mariotti accountable for his actions. Big kudos to Rick Morrisey! The right way: You write it, you show up
  3. Freddy vs. Pujols? Did it just get cold in here? (shivers)
  4. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Giangreco and Blanzy were adament about that when they reported the story. They said it's been blown way out of proportion and Ozzie always has these little off the record rants where he basically talks politics and other stuff with the guys and that's when he was asked this question about Mariotti. Interesting. By the way, this just came in... EDIT: looks like chisox2334 beat me to it.
  5. Was he really off the record? First time I've heard this.
  6. I said it yesterday, and I'll say it again...Ozzie in sensitivity classes needs to be televised.
  7. Mariotti is especially fair when he references the William Ligues of the world as being an accurate representation of all Sox fans (which he has done on numerous occasions). I will say that the Sox have to do a better job of ignoring a dufus like Mariotti. But to say that he has been fair to the Sox over the years is beyond comprehension.
  8. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:38 AM) Those around in the mid to late 80's might recall the rise of Mike Ditka with the fans & press to and beyond the World Championship in Jan 1986. For a time, outrageous things he said were accepted, as he was the king in this town, but it eventually started wearing thin on the players, and eventually the press. He never backed off, and the team began to fail and eventually he lost his job as the press started criticizing his methods. I hope none of this happens to Ozzie. Well, many people seem to have gotten tired of Ozzie's act, but as far as I can tell, there has been no sign that he's going to lose his players, at least any time soon. And to be completely honest, thats all I really care about.
  9. QUOTE(holly wiggins @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:57 AM) I see what you're saying, but I really don't buy that Ozzie hates homosexuals. I don't see Ozzie as a homophobe; I see him as a Latin male, and a jock. Both of those cultures are drenched in testosterone and neither makes any real place, openly at any rate, for anything but the heterosexual lifestyle. What Ozzie I believe MEANT to say was what he said yesterday, in his apology/clarification: "But I'm not going to back off of Jay. If he wants to know, he should be talking to me here, right now. If he were a man, obviously he'd be here right now." He's calling Mariotti "less than a man" by OZZIE'S definition of manhood. He used a word to do it that was not cool. But remove that word, and his sentiment stands. JMO. This essentially sums it up for me. He used a term thats conotation has somewhat changed these days. I don't believe he was referring to Mariotti as a homosexual as much as he was calling him a p*ssy. Still, the word is quite offensive to the gay community, and understandably so. The word still has a negative association with homosexuals, and if they still find it offensive, who are we to argue with them? Hopefully Ozzie realizes that its still a hurtful term and would find another word when questioning somebody's manhood. And looking at his apology, I think he at least publicly understands this now. Of course, he could start by avoiding angry rants all together, but that just wouldn't be Ozzie.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Well, that looked easy...
  11. Definitely a Hawkisms abuser. Last time I went to the horse races, I'm pretty sure I pissed off many around me after I'd yell "Come on Timo!" everytime my horse would came down the stretch.
  12. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) I am not sure green lettering is appropriate. Yah, probably should have ended the green after the "Pujols is a pussy" part.
  13. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) 2. The manager did deliver some very encouraging news on Pujols. He said he fully expects No. 5 to play against Cleveland next week. Pujols had another extensive workout today, even more intense than yesterday's, and he seems to be doing well. As always, a big part of the equation will be how he recovers tomorrow. Pujols is a pussy. Tell him to get his ass ready for the weekend series against Detroit!
  14. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) Yep, it's his defense mechanism, and it's getting tired pretty quickly. I love Ozzie as a ballplayer, as a manager, and mostly as a person. But this s*** throwing and disregard for basic respect and decency is really dissapointing. I wouldn't want Ozzie to change who he is, mostly because I love his candidness. But a little sensitivity training wouldn't hurt. At the very least, Ozzie in sensitivity training classes would make one hell of a reality TV show.
  15. I really don't have a strong opinion on this either way, mostly cause I'm not easily offended, and the word "***" has gotten to the point where it isn't necessarily in reference to homosexuals. But I will say that Ozzie should still know by now that its a word that'll get you into some heat when used in public, especially if you're a public person. Its not the first time he's done this, so he cant plead ignorance on this one. I hardly find it "disgraceful" and I wouldn't come close to comparing it to John Rocker. But no matter what the conotation, its a word that some find offensive. And while I personally don't find it offensive, I respect the probably large group of people who do. While I love Ozzie and his free-speaking personality, it would be best that he found a better choice of words.
  16. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 06:37 AM) Part of it is that they are 3-10 against Us, Red Sox and Yankees. Ding, ding, ding! The Tigers aren't #1 on any of the power rankings that I've seen, and this is the obvious reason. Nobody is more impressed with the Tigers than I am, but until you show that you can beat the big boys, you're not gonna get the top spot.
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I got WGN on and I heard that. Can you guys hear him slurring his speech? I think hes totally wasted. Talking about a hovering spaceship where celebrity deals are getting signed. LMFAO!!!!!! More on the Piven incedent... No hugs for Piven at Wrigley
  18. Checked around a little bit and he's been taking batting practice and fielding drills. But we more than likely will be missing him. Pujols encouraged by swings I know I won't miss him. Hopefully he comes back on Friday.
  19. QUOTE(allupons @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Anyone else thing that Hawk and DJ's comments about Garland having bragging rights over Buehrle is kind of stupid? I imagine the conversation would go a little something like this: Garland: So I hit a homerun. Guess that makes me a better hitter! Buehrle: My ERA is 3 points lower than yours and we are paid to be pitchers. Garland: yea.... that is true........ Asked if he'll ever live this one down, Mark Buehrle said...
  20. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) Go read their game thread on NSBB. Its a thing of beauty. LOL! Yah, its pretty funny. And apparently Jeremy Piven just yelled "Hug it out, b****es" during the 7th inning stretch.
  21. It appears that we are finally clicking on all cylindars. Even the bullpen is looking good as of late. Like WCSox said, if we continue to play like this, everything will take care of itself. Happy Jon Garland Day! QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Anybody agree with me that this was the best week of baseball the Sox have played so far? If it weren't for that embarassment of a game against Texas, I'd say without it doubt. Even when we won 8 in a row back in April, I don't think we were playing this well.
  22. Yup, never rooting for the Cubs again. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to actually be a fan of this team.
