QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 15, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) Can anyone with Insider just summarize Gammon's blog entry, I have no use for mlbtraderumors.com. mlbtraderumors.com basically covered it all... That was all Gammons said. I don't see this happening, with or without Uribe here.

Parents were born and raised on the South Side. They are also lifelong die hards, who have been following the Sox since the days of Nellie, Louis and Minnie. While myself and my nine brothers and sisters were all born and raised in the Northwest burbs (Cub country), my parents did their best to make sure that all of us were Sox fans. They were successful on eight of us. The other two aren't allowed at family functions. For me though, my parents didn't have to do a lot of convincing. I, of course, was born a Sox fan, but didn't really follow it closely until 1990. I had just started playing little league, and baseball became more and more apart of my life, so that season couldn't have come at a better time. With the obvious exception of 2005, that 1990 season was the most exciting season I've experienced as a White Sox fan. Even though we didn't win anything, I was officially hooked after that. 17 years later (man, thats hard to believe), my fanaticism has only grown.

Chris Stewart Traded to Texas for RHP John Lujan

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) OK, someone explain this to me. While I don't think Stewart is a top prospect, he is the best the Sox have if AJ and/or Hall go down. Why did we trade him for a 22 year old Single A pitcher with not very good overall numbers. Please tell me it's not because he throws hard. Also, I'm just wondering when KW was a player, did he have a hard time hitting the fastball? Maybe he figures if he couldn't hit it, no one else can either. Bob "The best the Sox have if AJ and/or Hall go down" certainly doesn't say much. Even with Stewart, if AJ and/or Hall went down, they'd have probably looked elsewhere anyway. Hell, they could have gone to Stewart last year and opted to pick up Alomar instead. It seems pretty clear to me that the Sox didn't see Stewart as a major league catcher. At 25, I don't see him getting much better. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) It does seem like he dealt Stewart just to deal him, I'm not really sure what he's going to do now that we don't have anything left in the organization at catcher. I understand the idea of loading up on power arms but trading the #3 catcher in the org, a guy who is projected to at least be a serviceable backup in the future for a 22 year old reliever at high A ball? Seems a bit counter productive to me. I don't know. Stewart is 25 years old and still is a crummy hitter. I'd say at best he's a serviceable backup catcher. And he was only the #3 catcher in or organization because our depth at catcher is pretty slim. It makes our depth worse, but I can't say I feel much worse about our catching depth today than I did yesterday. If I had a higher opinion of Stewart, maybe I'd feel worse about this trade. But since I don't, the more arms the better. And if one of A.J. and/or Toby Hall goes down, we can always find a journeyman catcher to fill the spot. We've done it before, we can do it again. That journeyman catcher may be worthless, but I wouldn't feel any more comfortable with Stewart as the backup. The kid we got back seems to have a live arm. Its a long shot, but for the cost, he's worth a try. -
If that wasn't the best episode of the season, its right up there. Ryan Howard: Hi. Hi. Hi.

Been going for a few years now. I usually spend most of my time in the seminars. The Kenny and Ozzie one is usually quite entertaining (especially when fans are unhappy about the offseason; it can get pretty combative). Other than that, the merchandise and autograph stuff really do little for me. Really, I go because it feels like it kicks off the season in a way. And with no White Sox for 4 - 5 months, I get withdrawels. The crowds have detracted from the experience a bit, and last year was more of a pain than anything...if there was any crowd control whatsoever, I didn't notice it. But as Steff said, the move to the Palmer House should help.

First of all, I think we can all agree that bumping a thread to prove yourself right or someone else wrong is quite lame. And I've always found it humorous when people point to Ozzie's playing of Mack over Anderson as some personal grudge he has towards Anderson. First of all, such a suggestion is merely speculation, as I'm pretty sure there aren't many around here who really know what Ozzie thinks. With that being said, Ozzie was as much an advocate of Anderson as anybody before the season began. Then Anderson couldn't hit his weight for a whole half. Therefore, right or wrong, he chose to give Mack more playing time (and for the record, I didn't agree with it). If we had a decent backup CF, this would seem a lot more logical, but regardless, Ozzie saw Mack as the better option. How this all equates to some childish personal grudge is beyond me. And if were indeed the case, I highly doubt Anderson would have gotten as much playing time as he did. When you consider the overall season he had, I'd say the organization as a whole had a lot of patience for a guy who, at his best last year, was mediocre. The guy still played 134 games. Say Ozzie was wrong for playing Mack over Anderson, and I will basically agree with you. But to throw dumbass speculation out like this, at least to me, detracts from whatever point you are trying to make. This has to be my favorite argument. Ozzie used them no differently in 2005. Yet they seemed to be fine then. Did he operate his staff perfectly? No manager does. But in the end, almost every ounce of the fault falls on the pitchers themselves. Once again, announcing your rightness. A true sign of someone whose points lack significant evidence to back them up.

Just came across this on YouTube. Haven't seen this in years.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) Talk about terrible radio, I can't believe anyone actually listens to that drivel. It is terrible radio. No argument there. But they talk White Sox, so I listen.
-
I absolutely loath sports talk radio. Outside of White Sox Weekly on Saturdays, Boers and Bernstein is the only show I'll even consider listening to. I often disagree with them and sometimes they can be a little mean-spirited, but I find them to be entertaining, funny and intelligent (although most of the intelligence comes from Bernsy). Bernsy really carries the show, and I've never really cared for Boers. But Bernsy, in my opinion, really makes Boers more tolerable, and they work well together. I've listened to Carmen & Silvy, and while they are decent, I didn't consider them good enough for me to tune in on a consistent basis. And as someone else said, their crummy time slot certainly doesn't help.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) How is this depressing? We get two pitchers for one, one of which is just as good as the one we got rid of. That sounds good to me. Thats what I was thinking. This actually made me feel a little better about the deal. And even if Danks is merely the left handed equal of McCarthy, he'd still be better for us if his stuff is better suited for the Cell, as Kenny has said. Not to mention that left handers generally have higher value. If Massett can turn into anything, this trade could look pretty good in the long run. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a little bit to find all this out.
-
I don't know what to take away from KW referring to McCarthy as "servicable" other than the impression that KW and his scouts didn't see the potential that others were seeing in BMac. I'm sure it was speculated in the massive BMac thread, but to me at least, it seems more and more like KW knows something about BMac that we dont. Then again, I could be totally wrong.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) It was really overhyped as being a warm and fuzzy type movie. I found it depressing too. Agreed. Although, I thought that if they cut out about 30 minutes of the depressing crap, it would have been a decent movie. It was way too long anyways.

Nice work Statman. Here's a few more to add to your list: Doug Drabek Chris Sabo Dave Steib and of course... Jose Canseco

Rogers, who I generally enjoy reading, appears to have calmed down after his knee jerk column the day after the Garcia trade. Good read.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Gload rarely plays, and Sisco's upside is so much higher, this is a move KW would have been foolish not to make, even if Sisco does turn into a bust. Exactly. Its a pretty low-risk, high-reward trade. Not exactly sure where the benefit for the Royals is here. You wouldn't think they'd be in the position to trade young live arms, and they've traded Burgos and Sisco in the same off-season for players with little upside (Bannister and Gload).
-
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Sisco can be nasty, but his control sucks. Yup. Sounds like a Matt Thornton deal to me. Sisco probably is one of those guys that Coop has been salivating over for a few years. I like this deal a lot. We all like Gload, but to get a quality bullpen arm for a utility player who never played is a pretty good deal on our end.

That was a top notch episode. I just about lost it watching everybody sing Alanis Morrisette.

QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) anyone else think Rozner is too good of a writer for the herald? As a loyal employee of the paper, I can honestly say that the Herald sports section is the only part of the paper I have any use for. Rozner is excellent, and the beat writers (Gregor, Miles, etc.) a pretty good. I can do without Imrem, but its an otherwise solid section.

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez

QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) I am so sick and tired of hearing about Coop. He is good, but he is not God. Where was he with Cotts last year? How about Marte the year before? Why couldn't he get Javy past the 6th inning? I agree that some invest too much confidence in the powers of Coop, but to be fair, the players you listed had problems that had more to do with their head or testicular fortitude. When it comes to mechanical problems though, I generally trust Coop. -
