White Sox v. A's Spring Training game
KevHead0881 replied to AddisonStSox's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I think he'll be a serviceable 5th starter, but few players have driven me as crazy as Jon Garland has throughout his career. He is the epitome of inconsistant. -
Wow, a well-done preview. They seem to be few and far between this year. I guess this guy didn't get the "Scott Schoenweis was moved to the bullpen" memo.
-
Well, as in previous years, I am optimistic. My point about Spring Training is that rarely does it indicate what happens in the season, especially in the weird conditions of Arizona. Yes, we could end up looking as bad as we have this spring. But I don't let spring performances dictate my feeling towards the upcoming season. This year, with vitually every game being televised, it's been a little harder to keep it in perspective. Really, I'm just excited for the games to start counting. I'm quite sick of exhibition play. As far as Pablo Ozuna goes, I think there should be a holiday dedicated to him.
-
Honestly though, you really learn little from Spring Training. Just look at the records of some of the teams. Spring Training, for the veterans at least, is all about working on specific things. I think some of us are a little more concerned than other fans because we've gotten to watch basically all of Spring Training. Are there things to be concerned about? Of course. But basically every other team is going through the same thing. I'll let the first month of the season go by until I can make a true assessment of this team. I'll admit though, I sure haven't liked what I've seen the past 4 games.

Spring has showed me that Pablo Ozuna will lead us to the promise land. In Pablo we Trusto.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) Borchard for Noah Lowry How bout Jason Schmidt?
-
Sox website says that last year in Birmingham, he wore #50.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) I thought it was a top fifty list? Oops. My bad. But if it were a top 100, I'd be right.
-
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) This Top Prospect list was most likely put together before spring training? Is that a fair assumption, given the absence of one Brandon McCarthy? That would have to be the case. Although, he should have probably been on there regardless. A 21 yr old who lead the minors in strike outs is not amongst the top 100 prospects in baseball? Not much sense there.

Nice catch by Iguchi. The more I see him, the more I like him.

QUOTE(shakes @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) My opinion, El Famous kills Chipotle. It's way fatter and greasier=way better. Well, Chipotle no stranger to making people fat. http://www.cspinet.org/new/200309301.html

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Benitez now in for the Giants. I'll never forget when Timo took him deep in Florida. That was a great game.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) Chipotle is great but El Famous is dirt cheap. For me, when it comes to good burritos, money is no objective.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) Football-sized burritos! I can see Hawk getting hammered late one night and drunk-driving to an El Famous for a burrito. I luuuve El Famous Burrito. Buy I'm more of a Chipotle guy myself. Politte pitches out of a jam.
-
Wow. Adkins getting hammered. He better start packing his bags for Charlotte.

Anthrax, did Kenny steal your lunchbox or something? I've disagreed with some things that Kenny has done, and have liked some others. I've never claimed that he's the best GM in baseball, nor have I heard anybody else say that around here. It's ok to not like the job he's done. But you've taken it to a whole new level. It's gotten real tiresome. I don't want to put a muzzle on you or tell you to change your mind on Kenny; but I ask that you please move on. We knew you didn't like him without a reminder in every post. The dead horse has been beaten.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) Then we all b**** and complain that KW.. Didn't go after the best SS in FA, and move Uribe to 2b.. Cuase if Iguchi goes down.. were screwed. :sleep

I might have been the biggest fan of the Lee trade, but I think you guys are being a tad hard on Carlos. The guy did his fair share for us. Lot of HR's and RBI's, he improved his defense and was an overall good guy. There were also times that he came through in the clutch (Cub game comes to mind). If I had any problem with him, it was his tendency to stand and stare at home runs (and a few that weren't). But, for the most part, he was a really solid player for us.
-
That was a bizzare play.
-
This Fields kid has a nasty breaking ball. Outside of that pitch to Lee, he's looked pretty good.

QUOTE(shakes @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) These Breweres announcers are also talking about how Ozzie took some parting shots at Carlos. They say they haven't seen any of these things yet. Wait until they see him hit 200 homeruns this year...foul. Outside of the "sliding like a girl" comment, I'm trying to remember when Ozzie took parting shots. A few days ago on MJH, he praised the way he left town.

As a fellow Daily Herald employee, I read Imrem all the time. He usually has little insight to offer, and I'm generally unimpressed by his columns. This one on the other hand is right on the money. It's about time Buehrle gets some pub in this town, and it's nice that someone in the media had the balls to tell the truth: that Buehrle has accomplished much more than those who have been so overhyped on the northside.
