4/18/05 Official Game Thread: Sox vs. Cakes

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 02:37 AM) Not if we want to win. I didn't say it would be a wise decision. If I had my druthers, I'd take Hermy for another inning. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie throw Shingo in there to show his confidence in him. -

Well, it would be no better time for Ozzie to show his confidence in Shingo then going to him in the 9th. It scares the bejesus out of me, but it still makes some sense. -
I'm glad to see that we could muster up the strength to play today after those oh so harsh words from Ozzie.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I'll be there and hopefully Mr. Contreras brings his 'A' game. Lets go Jose! Rah f***ing rah! This post just reminded me of those old Jerry Manual commercials. "You better bring your A game." Got a good laugh there.

QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) KW needs to step in privately and talk to these guys. Yes. Then it can officially be made a bigger deal than it really is.

QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) OK, but why do we need multiple "Guess the attendence" threads? Cause Ron Santo and Pat Hughes make it sound like its so much fun.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Because we are fans and are very prone to overreacting.... Fair enough. I just think this situation will be taken for what it is: Ozzie just being Ozzie. We've always known him as a guy who shoots from the lip, and when you talk as freely and as open as Ozzie does, your bound to say stupid s*** once in a while. I've always liked Ozzie and his free speaking ways and for the most part, the players seem to as well. Was Ozzie wrong? Sure. But I just don't see it being a big deal with the team. They understand the way Ozzie ticks.
-
Why do I get the feeling that this is a bigger issue here than it will be with Ozzie, Frank and the rest of the team?
-
Good stuff from Ozzie. Although, I'd expect a comment from at least one of those two grumps on the northside.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) I just don't like Ozzie risking Everett getting tossed out of the game by just sitting there in the dugout. We're not exactly loaded with offensive talent in our lineup right now. Everett's one of our few dangerous hitters right now. I get the feeling that Carl is the type of guy that if he went nuts about that call, there wouldn't be much that Ozzie could do about it. Agree to disagree, I guess. Lets just hope we pull this one out. Winning the series is great and all, but I'd sure like to get a sweep for once, especially with the Twinkies losing. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) No, but sticking up for your players is underrated. Ozzie left Everett out alone on the field there. Carl doesn't exactly have the best reputation for maintaining his cool. That call was awful, but it was bulls*** that Ozzie just sat on his ass Players seem to love Ozzie. I don't think there is much of a doubt that Ozzie backs his players. If Ozzie needs to handle that situation for Carl, then Carl needs to grow up. But, I do think Carl kept his cool there for the most part. Personally, I don't see what good it would have done for Ozzie to go out there. He either goes out, yells his ass off and gets kicked out, or talks about it and walks back to the dougout. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) I'd like to see Ozzie get ejected one time sticking up for his players. Getting kicked out is overrated. -

Waiting for the "Freddie Sucks" thread. -
This quote was in the trib Sox beat section, with the headline "Always the jokester". Ozzie was kidding around as usual. Although, he is kind of right.
-
Crede. He drives me nuts, but he'll ultimately put up very similar offensive numbers to Jose (maybe a few less homers). Defensively, it's no contest...at least when Joe isn't trying to field with his bare hand.
-
I guess I'd be pissed if Ozzie threw Neil Cotts out there to close the game out. He didn't do exactly what I'd like him to do at the end there, but I'm more concerned that some of our best relievers looked shaky out there. Yes, Shingo looked like s*** and in hindsight, it would have been better if we went straight to Hermanson. But up until now, Shingo is our closer and one bad outing (prior to tonight) shouldn't have changed that. If this were later in the season, I'd be the first to get in the "grill Ozzie" line. But now, it appears that he's trying to get a feel for who can handle what situation. I think that with another outing or two like this, Ozzie won't hesitate to go to Hermanson for closing duties; just as he was fairly quick to move to Shingo last year when it was obvious that Koch couldn't handle it. But, I'm sure we can disagree on this all night. I'm just happy we got another win. Here's to that! (Qwerty, does this mean I'm getting banned?)

Am I missing something, or was Ozzie pitching?

Iguchi adjusting well to American baseball...
KevHead0881 replied to bjm676's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When you consider that he's only played two weeks of American ball, I can't help but be satisfied with what I've seen. Does he have some things he needs to work on? Of course. But he has played pretty well during what was supposed to be a big adjustment period for him. -

When I was about 7 years old, my Dad signed me up for soccer (before I realized I didn't like it). Well, at this age, there were a lot of girls who played as well. To make a long story short, I accidentally kicked a girl on another team while trying to get the ball. She subsequently turned around and hit me square in the eye... ...and I've been a giant pussy ever since. -
QUOTE(ptatc @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) Obviously you've missed the domestic and child abuse problems. Apparently, I have. Details?
