Mariners Looking at Dye; Sox Looking at Otsuka
Chisoxfn replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
If we can get Otska on the cheap, sign me up. -
The Sox will acquire Seth Smith in any deal involving the Rockies.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) I hope we enjoy that crappy 2nd round sup pick we get from Dye when he signs with the Rangers. I mean, what is the reason to hold on to him. We also get the comp pick and right now those two things are better than other teams are offering, but that doesn't mean we can't move Iguchi, Contreras (for anything) and others.

Good luck Buehrle's

I fear nothing will happen. NOTHING.

Please Jose...throw a no hitter from this point onward.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Ok. Now I've seen it all. Defense of Kenny pre 2005... Boy I sure do wish this board had not crashed back then... I think at that point I was one of the very few that supported him (and its funny cause even with all the crap I've given him from time to time I still like him as the GM...however that could change if he totally messes up this process for retooling or rebuilding in 08.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Eh I concur with Dan...you hypocrite

QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) KW's mouth has definitely made me mad over the years and it isn't like he's dealing with a lot of guys like Sheffy. You look around the league and there are always situations where people have left organizations with sour grapes, but it's like that's a routine with the sox. There is a reason why KW and Ozzie like each other so much, they both can't keep their mouthes shut and don't learn from their stubbornness. is it really? Think about all the former Sox players that are brought into the front office/coaching staff or just public relations in general. I think its actually the opposite and the org does a very good job making sure very few people leave with sour grapes.

Kenny as a personsell/gm is very good. The things that bother me are the way he handles certain situations from a PR standpoint. Basically put I think he could be a bit smarter in the public eye but as a whole he knows his stuff, works hard, has severe passion, and is not afraid to be critisized (and the key to being successful is never being afraid, however, it doesn't mean you shouldn't evaluate and take in the opinions of others and I think Kenny does go to his people a lot). Basically put, I still rank him among the 5-7 best GM's in the game.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Good runner I hear... Very good at "bash and dash", too. I was bummed when we lost Fontaine (I think thats who ended up leaving for Seattle to rejoin Bavasi) because he was very well thought of in the scouting circles and was largely given a ton of credit for the strong Angel systems of the late 90's.
-
One of his sons is supposed to be a very good athlete, but I don't know if that was the one or not.

Laumann was pretty highly regarded around the baseball circle as well and I'm personally glad he's back in charge. You can see he strikes a lot better on later draft picks. Pawlek is a guy that was a highly touted guy we took super late (ended up getting drafted by I think the Cubs pretty early in the draft the next year)...Zach Jackson/Johnson was a top round pick by the Brewers IIRC. Plus you see a lot more hits on later round guys. Brandon McCarthy, Chris Young are two guys that were 10th round or later that turned into upper echelon prospects. Plus Haeger is a pretty respectable late round pick (although I really can't give much credit to anyone on that cause he pretty much dumb lucked his way into finding a knuckle ball and restoring his career...which is a great story).

Braves made offer to White Sox
Chisoxfn replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Renteria for Contreras...sure but for Garland, bahahah. -
Expect Mets to seriously pursue Iguchi
Chisoxfn replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Pelfrey's value is a lot less now than it was tihs off-season so you could get him, but not for Iguchi alone. Iguchi and Contreras could be enough to get one of Pelfrey/Milledge. -
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 06:24 PM) ESPN rumour mill Cutting their losses Jul 23 - The Red Sox have had talks with the White Sox about a deal that would send fourth outfielder Wily Mo Pena to Chicago, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. But before they trade Pena, Boston would like to acquire Pena's replacement. Oakland's Bobby Kielty has been mentioned as a possibility. I would be all about a deal that would bring Pena to Chicago, especially if we are giving up a minor leaguer to get him. Pena has the ability and everyday play could be all it takes to give the Sox a young, talented outfielder (the only scary thing is he is closer to FA than you would want).

Yankees looking at Garland, Thornton?
Chisoxfn replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
If we could get a package that includes Hughes or Joba Chamberlain than I think you have to make that deal. As far as Thornton goes, I'd try to deal him and see if you could get Ian Kennedy for him. -
Garland off the market, Vazquez available

QUOTE(Shadows @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) I don't know where you got that info, but thats not what was said down here Pence was the deal break. Williams insisted he would be a part of any package. -
So there will be somewhat of an outage late tonight (whenever I go to sleep) as I'm going to be backing up this version of the database (so we have it in case anything ever happens).

I have an IBM thats got 2 gigs of ram and I think a 1.6 Ghz mobile processor (not exactly sure on that) as Its my work laptop (but it works awesome, good batter life, nice screen).

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) Just look at OMIT's stats this year. How about we look at Timo's stats this year. -
I haven't been to the space needle but I did the CN tower when I was in Toronto and I thought that glass bottom was really really cool.

The .198 Hinske overshift, Ozzie's brilliance at work

There are no more site problems. We have been upgraded and are done. -
Should the Sox consider standing pat?
Chisoxfn replied to VAfan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Standing pat would be the worse thing that this org could do. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) This is about the least surprising news of the year, anybody who watched NBA games over the years and didn't think some of them were fixed is watching with 2 eyes closed. Well I think people could make a case that the NBA was potentially doing that (to get ratings) but I didn't think the mob was in on it.
