  1. The reality is his condition continues to get worse and its my assumption that the best thing to do is correct the problem and hope with proper rehab following the surgery he will be back. This obviously means the Sox get nothing for Joe at the moment, but the best plan is to get him to 100% and show case him next year for another team (if early on he shows he is healthy I still think he has value). Plus, this gives the Sox an extended period to see what they have in Fields (worse case...if Fields produces and Crede is 100% early on in the season, the Sox could opt to use Fields in LF until Crede is eventually moved).
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Ha, I guarantee Jason looked at the title of the post game thread and thought the series was over. See the influence I have on this website? Nah....I had a short work week so I keep thinking today is Friday for some reason...yesterday was Thursday in my mind...and well tomorrow I go to VEGAS!!!!!
  3. Thats it, I don't know what the rules are but I'm making a mother f***ing game thread and the Sox are going to god damn win
  4. Wow...Ducks dominate. Way to go..QUACK QUACK QUACK. Too bad hockey, which can be a very very fun sport to attend and watch is just in the absolute s***ter in business terminology (horrid ratings, no major tv deal....its just ugly right now).
  5. I swear...if they draft a pitcher without some project ability in the first round I will s*** a brick. I'm sick of safe, I want to at least take a chance early on to get a potential ace of the rotation or a potential middle of the order run producer.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) Imagine if we had signed Veal and Wes Hodges who was a 13th round pick and Veal was the 12th. That would have been a very good draft class. Hodges was rediculious. He breaks his hammate bone and almost immediately turns into a good hitter from the opposite side of the plate and now he's a switch hitter to boot.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) Veal was a former Sox pick that didn't sign. Also what a game for Collaro. I still don't think he's anything of a prospect, but at least he got to have fun singlehandedly beating the AA version of the Cubs in extras. Ya, Veal was really highly thought of when the Sox took him but he was pretty much an impossible sign at the time.

    Dude...Sloan is amazingly beautiful.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Even if Owens was "rated" faster than Orlando, he'd see nothing but his back in a foot race. I agree...Orlando is ridiculously fast and he's made a lot of progress at the plate (plus he has some nice peripheal tools). Still very raw player though.
  10. Well....requests were made...and as always we answered our user's demands and delivered TRADE WINDS!!!!
  11. Was it Paulo Orlando?
  12. So are the Sox playing a man short? If Gon is in Charlotte, who came up for him?
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) I don't want to get into another Dunn argument though. Seriously...that is why I didn't say any more words (we've had enough Dunn arguments with those statties). I think the ultimate Dunn moment was back in Cincy last year after all the times the two of us ripped into Keith about how over-rated Dunn was and than he went 0 for the world against the Sox that series (stranding tons of runners, looking pathetic in the field, and being just plain old over-rated).
  14. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) Adam Dunn is a very good offensive player. He has a .900 career OPS and his minor league numbers blow Josh Fields away. To say the Dunn is the worst Fields will do is just...I don't know...well, all I can say is that Dunn would be a very best case scenario for Fields performance. It's not like FIelds has insane power -- his numbers are fairly pedestrian for hitting Charlotte. I'd venture to say that Dunn is a very overrated baseball player. However, I'm not saying he's not valuable, but he's more valuable in the 6 spot. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Also, we shouldn't make the same mistake that we did with BA, and not have a bona fide backup. We should have someone who is older and can shed some light for Fields, and when Fields is slumping or having an off day, you can put this vet at 3B. Jeff Cirillo immediately pops into my head. But I don't know how long the Twins have him signed for. I think the key is just having a guy like Mack stick around and basically give him a lot of playing time during spring at both 3rd and the corner outfielders but go with the idea that he will be the primary backup at third base.
  15. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Agreed. I think it may be time to start thinking of extending him again rather than even messing with Buehrle. I still think Garland and Buehrle are two guys you continue to build around and extend, stick with Vazquez another two years and move Contreras in the off-season with Danks hopefully ready to be the #4 next year and Gio or someone else entering as the #5. Than when Vazquez is ready to be dealt, you hope another guy is ready to earn a spot in the rotation.
  16. I do agree with you that it would be nice to infuse the team with a lot of young talent via a trade of Crede and Dye (and I still think if you do ti right you could still contend, assuming you work on building up the pen as well).
  17. QUACK QUACK QUACK BABY!!!!
  18. I didn't get home till about 1:30 AM yesterday, but I got to see the Titans take care of business and sweep through to the Super Regionals. It actually turns out we may have lucked out because Long Beach State (who didn't deserve a one seed over UCI, but Long Beach has the better facility to host...ie holds more seats) lost and now Fullerton will get to host the super regional over UCLA (we have a better RPI, history, facility, and won the season series against them so that will give us home field...now we got to take care of business). Keep it up Titans....great pitching so far and more surprisingly some fantastic offense (looks like the bats may be heating up at the right time). I will be in Vegas over the weekend, however, if there is a game on Monday in Fullerton...I will a be there. Sorry about Mizzu Dan. I was hoping we'd somehow meet up in the College World Series.
  19. Gio and Danks have the ability to be pretty special (not Liriano/Santana special, but still pretty damn good) and I wouldn't deal either of them.
  20. I haven't watched much of Abreu this year and I know he's been bad, but assuming his tools are still there for the most part I would not be opposed to this move. However, it would be under the circumstances that the Sox would get some serious cash and that the deal would potentially be part of a bigger swap (with the Sox at least getting one additional prospect or player that could help them out now or in the future). I also buy on the Yanks considering to make the move just to unload Abreu (plus I think Bobby would play better on the southside than he does in New York). Again this is on the basis that the Yanks would send substantial money Chicago's way (in no way do I think the move makes the Sox a better team today, but I do think it would allow them to ensure a better lineup for the next couple years).
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) An all-around solid game (ehh bullpen)---great job JG and offense! Garland is the f***ing man. He's been the best pitcher on the southside over the past 2 seasons (plus what has been of this season).
  22. Fields is really a different player from what he was about a season to a season and a half ago and he's still making consistent progress and improvements. I'm really starting to buy into Fields as a long term player who has a chance to be an all star (based on how well he continues to progress and improve, which really is what you want to see out of a good prospect with potential). All that said, it doesn't mean there won't be growing pains. I do think he'd post some good power numbers though (xtra base hits and homers) even though his average wouldn't be as good as you'd want it to be early on (and he'd have a good deal of k's).
  23. Nothing quite beats convincing the police to not throw one of your best buddies in jail.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) Quick question: do you find no fault with Ozzie for blowing 10 games with late leads? I actually think this has been Ozzie's best year as a manager, albeit the last couple games have not been as good. Has he made some mistakes, sure, but every manager does, and I think the main issue with the blown 10 games is the fact that this is one of the worse pens in baseball over the past few years.
