  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) People will still accept the risks. They will believe that promotion will happen. They will believe that interest rates will decline in five years. They will believe their home will appreciate in value at the current rate. They will believe in anything. And some will have a comprehension problem. And in many of those instances they will be right (depending on the area). Will rates decline in 5 years, probably not, will they ever be as low as they were for a while, again probably not. But the vast majority of people in larger cities are not going to stay in the same house for 20 + years. In fact many won't stay in it for more than 5 years so in those instances there are a lot of advantages to go with an arm (lower margin, low start rate, etc). I could really go on and on cause I'm in the vast minority that feels these programs are amazing. If you want to know why real estate has appreciated so much it is in large part due to the fact that loans are much easier to get now than they were 25 years ago. And currently we can say that now far more than ever.
  2. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 07:12 AM) ANyone know of any good places to look for forclosures? I'd be careful. Very rarely do you find anything other than pure filth or houses that aren't any good deal at foreclosure sales. Plus you got to really be up with things because the original owners (depending on state laws) usually have a good deal of ability and options to reclaim the home even after you think you have it. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 07:12 AM) Except they don't. And actually, I don't agree anyway. I learned that stuff from my parents because I needed to know. Great - I was fortunate. But secondary education is supposed to prepare kids for adult life. To me, finance is just as important as math or English or history. It should be included. I am NOT saying we need to teach home maintenance or meal plans. You have to remember that some parents aren't capable of teaching these sort of things because they may not know them themselves. I was lucky enough to have an old man that was shrewd in business and that was able to pass on some of that type of stuff, but other people aren't that lucky. There parents may not have learned how to save or learned other concepts and because of that the kid will never know unless he talks to other people that are in the know. Where better than school to teach this.
  3. I've been missing on things, did this in fact happen. Did we already pass the deadline to protect him on the 40 man roster?
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) What you could look to do is Trade Mark and Fields for A-Rod, possibily trade Garcia for a guy like Crisp, then see what the market it is for Joe to get a young, cheap starter and maybe a nice bullpen piece. Garcia's last couple starts gave him considerably more trade value (since it was pretty low), but I also think they'll make the Sox think long and hard about moving him. Not a big fan of moving Garcia for Crisp but I'd consider doing it if we were able to get a prospect that could help us out or someone else. Or if we are talking about moving Garcia for a guy like Crisp (not necessarily Crisp).
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) The Twins have picked up Torii Hunter's $12 million option for 2007. I assume they will try and deal him though. This way they at least get something for him.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) Where have you seen that? As do I. You now have A-Rod on board, and you gave up a guy that could possibly walk next season, and a prospect. If that was deal the Yanks would be interested in, you pull the trigger, and figure things out from there. It's not often you have a chance to get a Hall Of Fammer in his prime. The Yanks could probably say the same thing. But in Arod's case, we are talking about one of the greatest players of All Time.
  7. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) I need to get a decent job and mop up on the foreclosures.... arms are for idiots or short term mortgages. No offense, but your last sentence is completely laughable. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Now that's very true. Having said that, I think it's really crappy for people to get baited like this, not really knowing what they are getting into. They get sold on the low payment, and not really think about the ADJUSTMENT part. Now yes, they should have thought about it, but most people don't. It's just another mechanism to rip people and make money. Or when properly used its a tremendous way to get people into home's and allow them to ease into the whole home buying experience (especially people that are younger who will make considerably more money in the coming years). It can also be tremendous if you plan on flipping your property in a couple years. Of course right now wouldn't exactly be the time to buy if you were planning on flipping in a couple years (unless you had some real connections and found some steals that needed refurbishing but you would be able to do it very cheaply; these are much harder to find than the general public thinks though).
  8. QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) damn espn keeps talking about buehrle/fields and a prospect I'd actually make that trade. Assuming we could than swing one of our other bats for a top flight pitching prospect and some other pieces we could use (plus payroll relief).
  9. The message has been cleaned up, but it will probably take a couple days until we get it back to 100% (just cause I think we are all swamped for time).
  10. I want to point out that the site was simply messed with. There are no viruses or anything like that. It was simply them making the site look ugly and removing some content. It is only effecting the front page as well. We'll likely route the front page to the forums for the temporary time being as I'm unclear on when I'll have the time to go to work fixing the front page (got work all day and everyday and than after that I'm pretty busy).
  11. QUOTE(ORsoxfan @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Hello fellow Sox fans. Daisuke Matsuzaka was just given permission to pursue a career in the MLB by his team in Japan. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2619621 While it would be nice to have a pitcher like Matsuzaka, who has been dominant in Japan, I realize the White Sox already have 6 starting pitchers for 2006, so Matsuzaka likely won't become a member of our rotation. However, who are the teams that would likely bid for the negotiation rights? Also, could someone explain the "posting system" teams use for players coming from other countries? Go Sox! -ORsoxfan The Yankee's are apparently hot after him. Or at least that what I gathered from listening to one of the baseball insiders on my local station talking about the Yanks (it was actually a NY writer talking about it). Posting deals with teams negotiating blindly (like a blind bid) putting in bids to the team and there is a deadline. At the deadline the team with the highest bid gets exclusive negotiating ability with the player.
  12. I had this date booked on my calendar, but too early in my new career to use a PTO. I guess I'll just save it and use the money I would have spent on super bowl gear
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Still the leader of our defense(Urlacher) was a first rounder and the leader of our offense(Grossman) was a first rounder. 1st rounders are mostly over-paid overall.... but there is also a reason they are in the 1st round as well. Lets remember we moved down to get Grossman and paid considerably less for a shot at Haynes/Grossman than a DT like Dewayne Robertson. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Plus, is it really different in MLB? For the most part, you have the elite -- Detroit, both New Yorks, Minnesota. You have the pretty damn good -- Sox, Oakland, Boston, Anahiem. And the rest. And below the rest, you have the NL (sans the Mets, of course). There is no such thing as an elite team this year when it comes to baseball. They all are pretty f***ing pathetic and I think we'll be seeing the worse world series winner in a long long time.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) So how come in the comeback thread you said Frank's stretch numbers counted more? Thats talking about an award, not player development.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) The one way I would think your suggestion would make sense is if we could also get a quality left handed hitting leadoff hitter for left field from somewhere. Because with Gload instead of Thome, we lose the ability to have a lefty bat that the other team has to plan around. You don't bring in a Loogy to face Ross Gload unless the situation demands it...you bring one in to face Thome any time the game is close. That would be somewhat of a weakness in our lineup if we followed that suggestion. Then again...toss Thome to anaheim for Santana, toss Santana to Tampa for Crawford, and bang. Anaheim is the one team that I think would give up an arm and a leg for Thome. Its a very good fit and they have prospects and pitching that could help us. In fact, we could likely swing a deal that nets the Sox Figgins/Santana and a prospect. I think thats a deal you strongly consider if you did acquire an Alex Rodriguez because you are getting low salary players in return that can help you (Santana/Figgs/Prospect) while getting Arod in here and still as a net result are shedding payroll (since a guy like Garcia is being moved for Arod along with fields). Of course these are quite a few moves to make, but thats never scared Kenny off before. It could also give the Sox enough chips to swing a deal for Brian Roberts who would move into a place like LF. Of course that wouldn't be a protypical OF, but we would have power at 1st (PK), SS (AROD), RF (Dye), 3B (Crede), 2B (Iguchi). And you now just need to find a DH with Gload maybe getting some time there or using a few chips to find a all bat type guy that just goes into that spot. I do agree the one concern is that lack of a lefty in the middle of the lineup, but throw AJ in at 6 or so and have a lefty in the 1/2 spots and you should be able to survive if need be. I just say Thome because he's older and less likely to hold up over the next 2 years as opposed to Paulie.
  16. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Do you project Anderson as anything more than a reserve outfielder having seen him perform this season or what? I can't consider anyone that is in the top 4 at his position defensively a reserve outfielder (not when you have the speed and power potential of Anderson). In the right system I think you play him regardless. I think the Sox have that but the problem is Ozzie really handled things awfully. Now if we get a good offer and are able to get another CF that fits in at the top of the order, well than thats another story. If Anderson is going to be used as a reserve outfielder, just trade him now because he has more value than that of a reserve outfielder (on the trade market). So basically put, if I'm KW I'd either force Ozzie to use BA or make a move (unless Ozzie tells Kenny that BA will be an integral part of next years team). As far as where BA may fall, if he can do a bit to his swing I could see him being Torri Hunter (defensively and offensively). However, I don't see him getting better than that offensively (and I know some here feel Hunter is an incredibly over-rated offensive player). BA could be far worse than that too, hitting in the low to mid .200's with high strikeout totals.
  17. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) I agree it might be wise to trade Thome or Konerko for that matter considering the amount of money they are making and the years left on their respective deals, but like dorf, I just think its extremely unlikely that Thome or Konerko are in another uniform in 2009 or 2010 no less 2007. I don't disagree (well in regards to Konerko LT) but I could see Thome moved. I just don't think it will be this off-season. Thome may be out of baseball in 09 and probably will be in 2010.
  18. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) I never understood how so many people on Sox Talk justified his terrible season by saying he played better in the last month or two of the season. Since when does only 25% of the season count? When it comes ot a rookie you look at the progress a player makes. You can throw out a rookie pitchers first few starts and see if he's progressively getting better. Its a sign of progress and growth being made. If we are talking about a veteran than ya, its pointless to throw later stats out, but with young players looking at stats like most Sox fans do about Anderson makes a lot of sense (because he should get better and well he did get better as the season went on). Still his stats over the final couple months make him look better offensively than he really was. I've never thought much of Anderon's swing and I still don't. However, his defense, speed and power potential may still make him valuable. But if a team wanted to give us something worthwhile I'd do it.
  19. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) Joe Crede is extremely overrated on these boards, good point s=d. Yet, if I'm trading for Arod, I'm doing so with the intent of moving him back to SS and sending Juan Uribe elsewhere. If we get Arod, than we are going to need to cut payroll somewhere and moving someone like Thome makes more sense than someone like Crede. Plus I think now is the perfect time to move Thome because I see him getting progressively worse during the remaining years of the contract. His trade value is far higher this year than it was last year (when we acquired him) and I think this off-season would be the perfect time to take complete advantage of that. Oh and Gload could play 130 games a season on a winning team, especially one like the Sox (with good bats most of the way around the lineup).
  20. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) Goldy's Bears Wallpaper from TalkBears.
  21. Google is one of the best ran internet companies around and its because they actually know what the end users (us) want. They'll do a great job with Youtube. That said I don't know if it was worth what they paid for it. I know Mark Cuban thinks youtube isn't worth what Google paid.
  22. The Twins rotation without Liriano is pretty bleh. Yes Santana is amazing but they are going to be lacking everywhere else. The Twins could take a few serious steps back next year especially since they had a ton of fluke seasons.
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Resident BA mancrush here.... I'll agree, you do have to listen to what the Marlins have to offer, but this guy is still our starting CF for the forseeable future. Why else would KW have traded away Jeremy Reed, Chris Young and the llike? Must see something he likes in the kid. If we traded away Chris Young becuase Kw thought Anderson was better, well than Kenny was stupid. I can imagine the reason it was Young and not Anderson was simply because Anderson was more ready to contribute this season. However, the White Sox and most of the fans here grossly over-estimated Anderon's offensive abilities while a lot of us also grossly underestimated his defensive abilities at the start of the season. The guy was a premiere defensive CF, but he was not a good hitter (even later in the year after making strides, he wasn't near as good as his late season numbers would indicate; although it was nice for him to make strides and there was on reason for him to be benched as often as he was). I should add, if we get good value I'm all for moving Anderson because I think he's far less of a sure thing than a guy like Ryan Sweeney. So if the Sox plan on adding a speedy CF to leadoff, than I'd move Anderson for a package that gives the Sox some serious chips (if that package is out there) and I'd imagine the Marlins could offer up some young players that we'd have interest in.
  24. I'd add Arod using a pitcher and Josh Fields, but than I'd also go ahead and swing a deal that moved Thome or Konerko out of Chicago because financially we'd need to clear some stuff up, imo.
  25. Logan, not Haeger, will likely be the in-house addition to the pen. He has pretty darn good stuff and should be a very nice option. He would also be the guy who would replace Cotts if Neal was moved. As far as the Haeger comparison to that of Shields/Wakefield, well that is far from what Haeger would be. He'd be the guy that came in games when we were up big or down big and we just needed innings eaten. The best place for Haeg is in AAA where he waits if one of our guys goes down, imo. Unless of course he has an amazing spring or Logan has an awful one.
