pete rose q and a
QUOTE(samclemens @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 06:55 AM) rose was a bum. always has been, always will be. what is this from him now, reverse psychology? "i dont really care anymore...i swear", like that will get him in? bottom line, rose gambled on his own team while he was a manager. absolutely dispicable. he should continue to be banned, even if it did take him 20+ years simply to come clean.

Goldy and Deploder are both in a league of their own imo. But if it weren't for those two, Kalapse would have gotten my vote.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) I'm ripping him a new one tonight. Even Lavin, was quietly questioning the move, by commenting several times that the point was proven and he needed to go back to his big guns. Killingsworth did pass out of the post early in the game. I know one got picked off and I do remember at least one other, but I don't recall him being shot happy and shooting every time he got the ball. Early in the 2nd half Lavin was commending Davis for making the changes. This was when they were cutting the lead. Obviously Killingsworth sat on the bench to long and he is your best player (along with Vader), so he needs to be on the court. That said when he was out there (aside from the 1st minute or two in the game) he was getting destroyed by our defense and was turning it over/forcing shots while not recognizing the double team. He was really miffed and got taken out of his game. I don't think it cost ya guys the game (having him on the bench) and it could turn out to be a really good learning experience for Killingsworth.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 06:03 PM) The Lakers won't trade Odom as part of a deal for Artest. If Artest comes in and f***s around they are screwed and have no other players besides Kobe. He's either bound for LA or Golden State IMO. Golden State I think would package Pietrus and Dunleavy in a deal for Artest. I'm not sure who the Lakers would give, but I just can't see Odom being involved unless the Lakers were getting other players besides Artest back in return. That was originally the case, but Kobe wants Odom out and to be honest I don't blame him. Odom doesn't have any work ethic and Kobe won't stand for that. Kobe may be a prick but he's the hardest worker in the league and he's not going to sit around and watch a teammate of his play lazy and thats what Odom does.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) The Iowa game was just ridiculous tonight. Greasy, did I miss something here? What the hell did Killingsworth do that was so bad to deserve to sit more than 10 minutes in the second half?? And Monroe? At one point, they had a lineup of Ratliff (4 fouls), Suhr, Calloway, Allen and Kline? How in the hell do you think you can win on the road in the Big Ten without ANY of your top six players in the game? Granted Strickland and White are hurt, but s***, you can't have Vaden, Killingsworth, Monroe AND Wilmont on the bench at the same freakin time!! Is there something else going on here or did the ghost of Bob Knight take over Davis tonight?? I can't believe we didn't get beat by freaking 30!!!! If it weren't for Vaden, you guys would have lost by 30. That guy was ridiculous.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) Iowa continues to dominate at home. It was going to take a lot for them to blow this one in Iowa City, after that game in the Breslin Center. Sloppy game for the Hoosiers. The shooting's been falling back down to earth, percentage wise the past couple games. The defense couldn't do much without Killingsworth in the lineup. He doesn't do a whole lot on defense, because he's trying to stay in the game, but it keeps IU's perimeter defense much tighter. 62-51 with 2:11 left. We've got a shot, but not a big one with our foul trouble. This was about the loudest I've seen Carver Hawkeye in some time. The school needed this and it should be even louder this weekend against the Buckeyes. The Hawks got to turn that into a bigger home court advantage and thus far this year the team has played well at home. Big test on Saturday and the fans got to get better (definately were strong tonight).

QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) aigh, this is what i get for rooting/betting on IU. Why would you be rooting for them? They are atop the big 10, so I was thinking we did all the other big 10 teams a favor. Iowa played tremendously and aside from Vader being on fire (and some poor turnovers by Iowa) it would have been a total blowout. The game was never really close though. Iowa's defense absolutely shut down Killingsworth. I've long said Hansen (when not in foul trouble) is one of the best defensive big men in the country and when he's not in foul trouble, Iowa is an incredibly dangerous team. Real nice win and we protected home court. I'd have to say Iowa (and yes I'm biased) has more quality wins than any other unranked team. Now they got to focus on the Buckeyes, who are a damn good team as well (we play em this weekend). I'm hoping somehow I'll get to see a little part of this game while at Fest.

Top 10 prospects
QUOTE(knowitall @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) lumsden is the guy that everyone is leaving off their prospect lists hes coming off a surjury and who knows if he will ever regain that amazing arm that he had i hope he does for the white sox sake. If he is healthy he will make a impact at the major league level in 2007. Probably the best left handed arm in the system, if not the best arm in the system. Really like his stuff, its just a matter of him staying healthy.

Artest NOT NOT Traded
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) And my fantasy team still waits for the return of Ron Artest.......Uh. He's far too good for me to drop yet he remains on my active roster. Yuck I'm in the same boat. I just hope to hell he gets dealt so I can have him down the stretch. The second the trade deadline passes, the second I waive is ass. I refuse to do it till than though cause he's too valuable.

Artest NOT NOT Traded
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Heck, that's nothing...look at the Vince Carter and Alonzo Mourning messes from last year...where the guys basically just said "We won't play" and forced trades for vastly lower value than they were worth. Exactly, this has been done before. Artest even said he'd report, which is better than what Alonzo and Vince essentially did.

Artest NOT NOT Traded
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) He technically did stop the trade. He told Sacramento he wasn't interested in coming there. Even if he says he's going to report, why would you trade for a player that doesn't want to come there? I really don't have a problem with what he said. Plenty of players haven't been happy with where they are going to go, but in the end he was willing to report.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) I do. He's a f***ing idiot who has not earned the right to pick and choose where he should play. And Sacto would have been much-improved by artest's playing abilities... It seems that Peja was probably the best they were gonna do. You can't win a trade when everyone knows you're dying to trade the guy. I just saw Greg Anthony on ESPN and he said that Artest never said he wouldn't report, but rather that he didn't want to go their but in the end he'd play for them. Indiana is threatening to suspend him for the rest of the season without pay if he doesn't accept a deal. Sac and Artest haven't even talked. I think there is a good possibility this deal still goes down.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Deal off, I don't blame Ron for not wanting to go there. Sacramento sucks this year and they're not getting any better. As far as the Pacers getting Peja, that was a dumb move for them. He is often hurt and IMO is on the downside of his career. Too bad the Lakers won't give up Bynum, Artest could have been a Laker. Artest is basically living in LA IIRC (well at least right now). He's at most of the games and he's pretty much told everyone he'll be in LA. My guess is its just a matter of the Pacers getting antsy and doing it without Bynum. I wouldn't give up Bynum either. He's a pretty good kid and has great size and athletisism. Obviously he's a project, but he looks like a real good pick. I think you'll see Odom or something along those lines for Artest (maybe a 3rd team involved) cause I doubt the Pacers want Odom.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) LMAO what a dick. Artest has no desire to go to Sacramento. Are you s***ting me? This is bulls***, I want him playing cause my fantasy team vastly needs him. I guess I was the idiot who thought I was getting a steal when I drafted him.

Willie Harris
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) Curt is done imo. Josh obviously needs to stay healthy and to be honest I don't think he's going to be very dominant healthy or not in that park with that team but we'll see obviously. That rotation is suspect at best, they'll compete for the al east but they are not series contenders imo. I agree with you. Now if Beckett and Schilling both are healthy and pitch like they can and have, than they are, but I don't expect that to happen. I would say the same for the Cubs. If they had Prior/Zambrono and Wood healthy all season they would be damn scary in the playoffs (if they got in).

Indians acquire Jason Michaels for Arthur Rhodes
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) The main reason the Twins struggled last season was because of their lack of offense. And I don't think they improved it enough to not stuggle to score runs in 2006. They should have a little better pitching (especially in regards to starting) and a healthy Torri Hunter. I think the Twins finish 2nd to the Sox and if we stumble out of the gate as the team gels or have injuries they could very well pass us. I think Cleveland got more worse than people think, plus I expect a few of their guys to regress a bit (happens with youngsters often). I think they will be very good though in another year or two.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) so if not the red sox, yankees or jays who wins the al east? i also love how the red sox rotation is suspect. usually you say that when five mediocre players are apart of it. curt schilling and josh beckett are far from mediocre, wells and wake were both above average last year, and clement, arroyo, papelbon are more options. again though, answer my original question. Until either of them can prove me they are healthy, I have my doubts on those two. I like Beckett's chances more than Curt's. I'm leaning toward Curt's career being done at least from what I saw of him last year.

QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) This just amazes me. How can anyone look at the Red Sox and make them the favorite? They have two majorly potent bats, but a very suspect pitching staff. They are a resilient team but their level of talent is on a steep decline. Yanks have to be favorites.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Edge and Champ way down the list. Its just hard to project High School players. I mean Courtney Brown was supposed to be a sure bet in the Pros, but never has reached his potential showing that even the jump from college to NFL is often hard to predict. Alot of good players are in the middle of the pack, Thomas Jones, Backus, even Plaxico. And Ron Dayne was 44 as a FB? Also Coles as rb lol. Goings was on that list too. Pretty crazy list. Tons of high draft picks and solid NFL players on there. Mike Brown was on it too. And than there was Katzenmoyer, what happened to that guy. He was a machine in college (didn't he eventually have some sort of career ending injury?)
