New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
Chisoxfn replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) That's the thing. Even though a lot of people seem to be against acquiring Tejada, I'm sure these are the same people who will be praising him when he's putting up 300-35-110 next season. While playing pretty good defense. I love Uribe defensively, but Tejada isn't some joke in the field. Plus you got to like the fact that he's 29 and doesn't turn 30 till May. Basically he's in his prime and signed very modestly for another few years (don't remember how many though). He also has played 162 games for 5 straight seasons and in 2000 it was 160 and 1999 it was 159. Thats pretty damn impressive (now which we'll trade for him and he'll get hurt, haha). Of course I'm really a Uribe fan and I think he could in turn end up having a semi similar career. The sky's the limit with that kid and I eventually see him turning into a 25-30 HR guy himself. -
Good news.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
Chisoxfn replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Very interesting. I don't necessarily hesitate on this move because were getting arguably the best shortstop in baseball. Sure we give up a starting pitcher (although Bmac gets pencilled in) and a prospect or two, but if the Sox got something else back (maybe a bullpen arm or a spect that could help us in that regard) I really have zero problem with this. Tejada would be here for a while and he'll put up pretty darn good numbers to boot. That said, I don't think we need to make a deal. I like this team the way it is, but Tejada/Thome/Konerko or some variation of that would be a pretty dangerous middle of the order. -
I know it might be a little early for this.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Vernon Davis runs closer to a 4.55 40 time, but he's still a great prospect. He's undersized at 6'3, but he has a great vertical to make up for it. However, give me Pope anyday, that guy is a monster, there's not a single DB in the NFL that can match up with him size wise. He showed pretty solid hands in the bowl game as well. Looked like a really good all around TE. I don't know about his speed (and he didn't look to have great speed) but his size was impressive and I'd think it would help out on the blocking end (and thats what the Bears will want...a good all around TE). -

QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) don't worry, all blockbusters and video rental stores will be out of business in a few years anyway. With all the new direct movies on digital cable and the netflix's of the world, they'll be gone soon. Agreed...mainly because of the direct movies on digital cable. My guess is 3-5 years before they have pretty much every movie you could possibly want stored on demand and all you'll have to do is pay a 3 or 4 buck fee and you are allowed to view the movie for a certain period and of course since its in demand you can pause it and all that stuff. Thats why Blockbuster has recently added all those video game stores into there places. I think they realize they need to differentiate as well as come up with new products and fast. Otherwise they are toast.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) When the f*** did Blockbuster begin charging $8.00 for video game rentals? I haven't rented a video game from there in several months, so obviously it occured sometime during this transition period. It's unbelievable. I'm surprised never to have heard any public outrage concerning this. Sounds like Blockbuster trying to screw the consumers again. There I am waiting in a 20 minute line with Shadow of the Colossus in my hand, when I'm shocked to notice a $7.99 rental fee on the checkout monitor. The dufus behind the counter reacted like I was crazy when I asked him, "I thought video game rentals were $5.00?" Since I only came with five I couldn't even rent the game. They just lost my business. Hollywood Video is the only way to go if your renting a game from a store. Personally I gave up renting a while ago, but I think Blockbuster just changed the price of games and its a total jip.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:39 AM) Actually, I think I'd disagree with the statement that "we're way overdue." Roughly speaking, the L.A. Basin should probably expect 1 magnitude 6+ event every 10-20 years. That's for the entire L.A. Basin area...each and every one of those blind thrust faults combined. The last one right here was in 94, Northridge, but there were also 2 major events out in the Mojave in the 90's, so statistically speaking the 90's were pretty active. Doesn't mean that there won't be a magnitude 6 event in the near future, but also doesn't mean there will be one. In terms of the San Andreas...well, there could be one now, or the next one could happen 150 years from now. The remarkable thing about recurrence intervals is that in almost every fault section in the country, they do exist, but they have margins of error on the order of 100% of the recurrence interval. So on the San Andreas, if there was a big quake in 1857, and its recurrence interval is 100-200 years, then you could very well go 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, or 400 years between major movements, entirely based on the mood of the fault. The San Andreas will rupture again, and the odds are it will be within my lifetime, but we're also not "Overdue" for one on it. We would be overdue in about 2100 if there hadn't been one yet, because we would be greater than the estimated recurrence interval. The only reason I feel the way I do is I remember when I was a kid we had a few big ones all in what seemed like a short span of years and now its been a long time (although about a year ago we had that couple week span where you could feel a few earthquakes and aftershocks). Hell I don't mind earthquakes as long as they ain't the big one. Far better than getting hammered with hurricanes a few times a year if you ask me (although I guess you can see a hurricane coming). Balta, I'm guessing you know more than I do, but what part of the San Andreas is due. I remember in one of my geology classes my professor was talking to us about how they can semi predict where the quakes are going to occur since they kind of happen in a certain pattern (after a quake the stress is relieved from one area and I guess it starts pushing more on another area which needs to be relieved). That sound about right?

Ruth Chris and Mortons (in that order). Oh and Ruth Chris Potatoes Au Grautin = AMAZING. I don't ever buy steaks unless I'm at one of those two places (which is maybe once a year). Otherwise I pick up my steaks at Costco and cook em on the grill. I'm a chicken, seafood or ribs guy if I eat out. Whats everyone's favorite cuts of steak: I go with Porterhouse, New York Strip, and Rib Eye

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) I am going to go out on a limb and say with Bradley coming back, and with Gage and Berrian showing nice flashes late, the Bears aren't going to draft a WR early on... Maybe on the 2nd day of the draft, if at all. If anything a 2nd day WR like you mentioned or a guy like Randle El who can come in as a slot receiver and help with special teams (although I don't know if its worth paying what he may get cause I'm sure someone will drastically over-pay). I wouldn't mind drafting heavily on Oline, and potentially finding a replacement for Zoom. And I definately think TE is a key position to look at. However, aside from the TE's mentioned I think this draft is extremely strong and I happen to like a potential 2nd rounder like Fasano (from ND) or a 3rd rounder (or thats where I'd assume he'd go) in Chandler (from Iowa). Chandler has good hands, a big body, not the greatest speed, and is a solid blocker. Iowa has developed a pretty good TE (Dallas Clark) whose suceeded in the pro's and while Chandler isn't quite Dallas Clark, he's pretty good despite not getting talked up much.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) Look at Andrei's stats from last night's game against the Lakers: 14 Points 8 Rebounds 9 Assists 6 Steals 7 Blocks There ain't another player in the league who could put up a statline like that. The Jazz are now 14-8 when Kirilenko plays, and 2-8 without him. His impact is beyond comprehension. AK is the freaking man. Such a good all around player. The only problem is he can't stay healthy. However, I'd love to see a guy like that playing SF for the Bulls. Of course we got bigger fish to fry (ie finding some quality bigs).

Is it me or is that a really fair signing. Obviously the contract has incentives for the 3 option years that could push it up, but I'm sure they are the type of incentives that if he reaches it, it would be well worth paying him that money. 4 mill for 25 HR and 90 RBI, albeit a million strikeouts ain't too bad. Well considering Burnitz is supposedly considering a 2yr 12 mill deal from the Pirates.

Ridiculous thats more money than Preston Wilson got.

Game Set Match. Really good close game and an exciting OT thanks to some bad field goal kicking. I don't know about anyone else, but I sense college football coming to an end and I was hoping for another miss just so we can see more OT. Hell, I hope tomorrows game goes down to OT as well. I love OT in college football. -

Wow PSU misses one barely wide left and it will go to a 2nd OT. 38 yarder and it was barely missed, just like FSU's was barely missed. The game goes on. I hope this is a precursor to how good the Rose Bowl will be. Man, talk about a game. -

Wow, who'd of thought FSU would give the Nittany Lions a battle. I've thought Penn State (while good) was over-rated, but I figured they'd beat FSU (a down FSU team without its leading tackler). Great finish though and it will be interesting to see who pulls this one out. Regardless, considering PSU didn't win (if they do) in an impressive fashion, OSU will be the 3rd ranked team in the country. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) If Texas wins, then Vince is gone. But otherwise I don't see him leaving, as Mack managed to keep guys like Derrick Johnson, and Cedric Benson 4 years. As for where he would go, I would think both the Jets and the Raiders would give him a look before Arizona could get to him. Even the Saints could be interested in him if he has a great combine. The Raiders would love Leinart, but I don't see him lasting to the 6th pick. If he does it would be a mistake cause the guys going to be a darn good pro qb. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Until Iowa can beat ISU consistently that's not a given win for them. It's been one of Ferentz's few problems. Ya, ISU is not a given win. Thats a big time rivalry game and Iowa has struggled to play with the same intensity the Clones have in those games. McCarney is a good head coach and ISU is a solid football program. However, they have failed to win the big game the past two years and he's going to have to get those big wins (especially while there side of the conference has been down) cause its about to get a lot tougher for them (since it really looks like Nebraska is turning the corner). Also, North Carolina has been making some noise on the football end and I think Palehosefan would agree with that (the resident UNC fan). They have failed to turn into a top notch football program but to call them a cupcake would be wrong. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) On another note, that offsides in the IOWA/FLA game on the onside kick was a horses*** call. The game was full of thm. It was pathetic. That said Iowa put themselves in that position, but they certainly didn't get any calls. Plus did anyone see that one 1st down they got in the game. They got a yard and a half favorable spot. It should have been essentially a no gain. Of course Iowa stopped them on that drive. Iowa dug themselves into a deep hole and they had help from the refs, but they did a lot of it on there own. They don't fall behind so badly early (which was there own fault) and they probably win the game. -

QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) Where are all the ND trolls????? Time to eat some crow!!!!!!! Dude, I'm a ND backer and I often times said I felt you guys were the better team. I hated this matchup but I thought it was going to be a hell of a game. We made some mistakes and I think the game could have been closer, but your speed got us in the end. Tough loss for the Irish but quite frankly we didn't execute like we should have and you proved why talent wise your one of the 3 best teams in the country (and will be in the polls when the season ends). Oh as far as Iowa goes, they made two dumbass mistakes and obviously there defense had some trouble but that game wasn't near the blowout it should have been. Iowa was able to shred Florida's d pretty much all game but failed a few times. They played terrible and deserved to lose. Those calls at the end of the half were horrendous and led to a Florida TD (when Iowa would have had a shot at really cutting things) but at the same time Iowa didn't protect on that 1st punt and they threw a pick for a TD. Thats there own fault. Florida is a good team and while It sucked both my teams lost (plus the Bulls) I will not stand down that both Notre Dame and Iowa are good teams. Iowa had a lot of problems this year, but they are still in my mind one of the 25 best in the country (but yes, I was dead wrong about them having a good season, there green defensive front didn't allow them to have a good defense because they rely on getting pressure and when they can't get pressure they get toasted).
