  1. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) Besides 2001, that was Wickman's best year. Expect him to fall off considerably next year, if he can even stay healthy the entire year. He will have at best a mid 3 ERA and I could easily see it baloon into the 4's when his back flares up and gives him trouble.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) With the Padres losing both Loretta and Hernandez...and Bonds losing 40 pounds (hint hint), does anyone else think that the entire NL West may come out worse next season? Assuming the Dodgers stay healthy, they will be vastly improved, imo.
  3. QUOTE(jenksd @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) Pargo, Deng and Songalia carried this team. Songaila played his best game of the year (albeit still nothing incredible). Basden looked great when he was in too. I'm really shocked we won this game. Songalia really played well as did Deng (he's been rolling lately). I liked the lineup the Bulls had out there when they went small (with Deng and Noc both in along with Pargo and Duhon and Sweet). Songalia and Pargo had a nice little two man game going a few times. Every time Gordon came in he would turn it over and our lead would disinegrate.
  4. QUOTE(jenksd @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) Cry me a river Tyson. Ben the turnover machine's ankle wasn't that bad apparently. I'm glad it forced him to sit out though. Gordon blows chunks. He's a freaking turnover machine and he forces horrid shots. I'd just as well trade Gordon and use Pargo in Gordon's role. Neither can play defense and both are good (albeit streaky) shooters. I think pargo is a better ballhandler though. And yes, I probably overrate Pargo but I've been a Pargo backer since his days with the Lakers. I really don't see much difference between him and Gordon.
  5. Matt, 3e8, was a great buyer. Real good communication back and forth and a quick payment. A total pleasure to do business with
  6. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Courtney selling Nirvana catalogue to Martha Stewart Stupid stupid Courtney love. I hate her.
  7. The thing is I don't see the Sox going with Davannon simply because they know what they have in Timo and Borch and my guess is one of the two will be back. They are comfortable with the character and attitude of each of them (not that Davannon isn't a good guy) but Kenny is very careful who he brings in. I think we all know there are better bench guys than Timo, but he fits in well in the clubhouse and that has to be at least a little factor for why he should be kept around (although I think he'll be replaced by Borch this year). However, since the Sox are likely to be relying on a rookie like Anderson, I think its wise to have a guy like Davannon around who can (if he plays like he did two years ago) be a pretty good starter and 2 hole hitter.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) You're a fan of Gathright, of players in his mold in general...? BTW -- in the coming weeks, expect to receive a PM from me. I'm not a fan of Gathright on the Sox, but yes I think Gathright has some potential. I've long said it would be dumb for the Sox to trade for him because he's about as much of a ?? as Anderson and I'd take a guy like Anderson over him. I'm just saying I have zero problem with slap hitters, as long as they are in the 1-2 or 8-9 holes. They also need to have a good eye and good speed (to steal bases) otherwise they are a little less valuable. Hell, Bill Mueller is what I'd call a slap hitter and I'd take him on my team (assuming i have enough pop at other spots).
  9. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Jeff DaVanon? http://rotoworld.com/ He is a switch hitter, can take a walk and he always seemed to play well against us. Oh man, I'm a big Davanon fan. This would be a good move, he can play all 3 outfield positions and although he really slumped last year he has pretty good potential and would be a very valuable bench player. Plus he's a smart patient hitter with good gap power and some speed.
  10. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) IF they can move Lowe, its a slightly better deal ebcause he is older, has a longer deal, and makes more money. Lowe is the perfect pitcher for the park in Philly too. IF its Penny, its still not a bad deadl but probably not quite as good. Plus, if they do Lowe, they probably odn't have to have many cash considerations. Makes sens fro both sides. What do the Phils want to do in right if they move Bobby? Jason Michaels? Only one thing, Lowe is a workhorse without any serious injuries while Brad Penny has had some injury problems. For that reason alone I'd probably part ways with Penny before I parted ways with Lowe. The sinkerballer Lowe would be a good pickup for the Phils though (considering there park).
  11. This was a good move, imo. Two years to keep your hometown and HOF closer and than an option year. If he pitches like he did last year they will be set entering the 9th inning.
  12. I think its more that Grossman hasn't gotten many reps yet this year so they are going to try and work him a little more than the usual backup so he is prepared if something happens to Orton. I still say if you go to Grossman and he doesn't take off, than you have a full blown QB controversy on your hands and that is probably the worse thing (aside from a serious injury to a star player) that could happen to this team. Because of that I still say its Ortons job until he really stinks it up and him stinking totally costs them a game.
  13. Extra prayers go out right now. Really sorry to hear about that steff. Hopefully he finds a way to pull through.
  14. I also want to say there is only one argument that I think is truly viable from the left side. I would want to know why the Iraqi army (which has now had a relatively long time to traing) is still being babied around. I would like to see us be able to slowly start pulling out troops and putting more of the responsibility on the Iraqi army. Afterall, they have been trained 2 to 3 times as long as the normal troop that joins the army and than is shipped to Iraq after 6 months of training. If the Iraqi army isn't capable of that (and I assume they aren't since we haven't really given them an increased amount of responsibility) than I want to know what people are doing to improve there training methods so the Iraqi soldiers can figure things out.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Until we stop doing it. Thats right, I forgot, president Bush is the one over there toturing people. Oh wait, no he's not and yet people seem to generalize that the whole freaking army is toturing individuals. Thats like saying every Sox fan is William Lique. Don't let the extremely vast minority allow you to make a false opinion on the majority of soldiers.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Man, I can never figure out why some of you Republicans just assume that everything which happens in the Democratic party has to do directly with the influence of Hillary Clinton. The "Clinton" faction, including a lot of Clinton's old people, were quite strongly opposed to Dean during the primaries, and many of them opposed Dean when he was running for the DNC. I think it's pretty doubtful based on policy positions that Dr. Dean would have Hillary as his first choice for the DNC nomination in 2008. I see no reason at all why we should give any credence at all to the theory that this is somehow related to Hillary's grand master plan. For cripes sakes it was the Clinton people that pulled the plug on the Dean campaign. Its no secret either, the Clinton people were very behind the attack on Dean (especially following his marvelous speach).
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) I expect nothing less. Those polls are meaningless. Its like putting up a poll on Soxtalk asking if the White Sox are good.
  18. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/06/dean.iraq/index.html Typical drivel from this blowhard idiot. Guys like this would have quit on WW2 because it was too hard, would have quit the Civil War because there were too many casualties and would never have fought the Revolutionary War because it was too difficult. You also have Senator Kerry making this accusations about how crappy our troops are and how they are treating the Iraqi's horribly and invading their rights. Comments like that sicken me.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Yeah, out here it starts raining and people wind up dead just because they're going too fast for the conditions. If it ever snows out here again (and we as a nation are doing our best to make sure it wont) there will be a lot of dead people out here. Seriously, It will be pouring rain and you'll see idiots flying by you at 75-85 on the freeway. They have no idea that when it rains you need to slow down.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) So you're going to try to drive around Los Angeles? I don't know how you guys live in the LA basin. I'd be dangerous after a few weeks of having to drive in that crap. The few times a year I drive down there I usually end up going insane and swearing off ever going back to LA. And its not like there isn't traffic in OC, its just there is traffic everywhere in LA, and I mean EVERYWHERE.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) He's not a good defensive cf that is for sure, so that's a fair point. I'd love him offensively though but obviously me and you have different opinions on this so no biggy. You and I are on one side, Keith and a few others are on another side of this argument.
  22. QUOTE(Ricky3353 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) I heard Phil Rodgers on the score today and he said he wasnt too thrilled with this deal. The two pitching prospects (not Mitre) are suppossed to be big time, right behind rich hill and angel guzman in the organization. Pierre sucks anyway. He might swipe 50 bags but his on base percentage in atrocious and he has a weaker arm than my grandma. I'd rate them both ahead of Guzman. Guzman has had his fair share of arm troubles and while he is more talented than the two names, I prefer two guys that haven't had a history of injury problems (plus they both have pretty good stuff too).
  23. Last I heard on the radio (this was a while ago) was that it would be either Lowe or Penny. Let me be the 1st to say if the Dodgers can move one of those guys (and there larger contracts) for Abreu than I think it would be a good move. At the same time, they both are good pitchers (I wouldn't call either great) who would help Philly (since they are looking for pitching). Coletti has been a very agressive GM and he has a very strong system to use (whether he wants to develop a few guys this year or to use some of those guys to get him quality major leaguer players). The problem is he has JD Drew and Odalis Perez on the books and both of them should be long gone (too bad Drew has zero trade value).
  24. The score reported that Rex Grossman was upgraded to the backup spot (behind Kyle Orton) which moves Jeff Blake to the 3rd string role. Grossman also took 25% of the snaps with the 1st team in practice today. Lovie had issued a warning (in a sense) to Orton following the Packers game (to improve the offense) and if the team struggles early on or falls behind against Pitt you may see Rex. We'll see how Orton handles the competition and if he elevates his game a bit.
  25. Trust me, teams like Boston, New York and maybe even St. Louis will at least give him a call and offer up 16-20 million for 1 year.
