He has back issues last year and has to maintain. The season last year was short. Starters are doing a ton more work than they did last year - saving and managing keuchel usage right now is smart. This isn’t a sprint.
-
Crochet is pretty damn good - so it isn’t like he was trying to let some bum reliever go through the 9th.
-
They are up five runs with a pitcher who is older and had back injuries who has struggled a bit 3rd time around. Seemed like a pretty no brainer move for Tony to pull the plug. Maybe there is more there - but felt to me we like a…we got this in a good spot, let’s call it a night for keuchel…it’s a long season and this helps keeps some bullets in the arm while ensuring he finishes with a good game (he has quietly been trending in the right direction despite so many calling him a fifth starter…when just last year he was absurdly awesome).
-
Crochet had a good 8th and they are trying to stretch him back. I was listening on radio and than when needed he went to Hendricks. People are really squinting to blame the mgr on this one. And when crochet had that last walk - he pivoted quickly and wasn’t going to let it continue. But I had no issue sticking with Cro after that 8th.
-
I refuse to blame a mgr for taking a vet starter like keuchel out early only to be let down by pathetic performance from his players. Period. Players got to play and Heuer was AWFUL.

All I know is he has been electric of late, with his slider being good enough - it is keeping hitters honest on that heater which is lethal. Love it - and I wasn’t a huge fan of the move, but turned into a Liam defender early in the season after seeing how good that heater was first hand. Dude is nasty!

This would be epic - I wouldn’t miss a game. He is the best! And for a three game span - oh man - he would be legendary. He deserves it too after the crappy last final years of his broadcasting career (in terms of the team)

Negative effects from getting the vaccine - or do you mean side effects? Cause yeah - that is normal - you get them for a day or so and than you are better. Some get them for two or three days.

Did the Sox really have a mid-season exhibition game they used to do with the Cubs (pre interleague play?). I totally don't remember this or is this something that happened before my time?

On this topic - I kind of think the should buy him a bit of time in the minors given how long he has missed. A little bit longer rehab stint probably makes a lot of sense in this situation. -
I tend to agree with you. To me if I make a trade deadline move, it is focused on really making sure I have enough firepower to survive the dog days of summer and make the playoffs. Whether it is a short-term upgrade to buy time/hedge bets with Robert/Jimenez or you are adding an extra reliever to just provide some depth. I don't see any need to go out and make a "splash" move at the deadline with this club as I think they should be in a great position to make a run in October. This could all change if they suffered a big injury to their rotation - at that point - the name of the game would potentially change and maybe than you are looking at finding a bigger name starting pitcher at the deadline. So in general - I don't see the Sox dangling any of their better prospects during the deadline.

To all your points - I have a pretty high degree of confidence Kopech isn't going anywhere. The only way he gets moved is for another premium player who is cost-controlled, but beyond that, the only way I see the Sox moving him is if they had some form of long-term concern and there is zero reason to think that. And in terms of his on the field performance, I was super high on Kopech and even I couldn't have predicted he would be THIS electric after so little major league action. The main risk with Kopech is just him staying healthy. If he's healthy - he's going to be elite.
-
This - I was one of the few people on this board adamant that Kopech wasn't the guy to trade last year because his value was too down and he was way too explosive. I still feel exactly that and it goes back to - the only way I deal Kopech is if I am getting an absolute controlled ace back or some other spot that I see massive value in return. So odds of that happening are slim - but it could happen. I've long said Kopech was key to being a true world series team because the Sox aren't going to pay for pitching, so having a true premium arm like his in that rotation is critical, especially when you get to the post-season. On Crochet - he is a tougher one and is probably the first guy I would dangle in the situation outlined above. His arm is dynamic but COVID both helped and hurt him. It helped him in the sense that he probably never gets that early big league entrance if it weren't for COVID, where he just crushed it and even now, he's doing pretty good despite the random complaints. That said - in the long run, it probably hurt him in the sense that more normally he would have been in the minors getting innings...which to him is critical to unlocking his potential as a starter. At this point - I really see him as the guy the Sox develop into a Hader type (or at least try to) - unlock him as a multi-inning reliever who can be dynamic. But if they can get a piece they like, who is a well above average player and cost controlled - sure.

Interesting.

The Celtics are going to be interesting to watch this off-season. Ainge is horrible to make trades with, but I have to imagine some players might become a bit more vocal and ownership probably getting more restless. Tatum and Brown are both very good players, but for whatever reason they can’t take the next steps. Tatum in particular is a budding superstar with a pretty complete game. Curious to see if he gets antsy to leave Boston at any point - especially with some of the other issues Boston has going on regarding its fans. I recognize Tatum was hurt - but still they weren’t going anywhere. Most likely Stevens will be the change but shoot how do you have that talent signed to affordable deals and not put better teams around them.

Hence my point - crazy what some places charge for something you can literally get for free at Costco (or as you all point out - that benefits are minimal at best and can just top off).
-
It is amazing what dealers find new ways to charge for - especially since you can just go to any costco and get nitrogen in your tire for free.

Congrats - my sister in law has that exact year Sante fe, she likes it a lot and personally I think they are one of the better looking suvs on the road.
-
Hah - good thing is it doesn’t matter to me. To each their own. And I love the 83 jerseys so seems like between the two - half of us like one / half like the other…use them both and we are both happy from time to time. Works for me haha.
-
Hate these
-
Heck yeah - Cease with a career high in pitch count - stepped up with some big pitches in that last inning. Pen was excellent and Mercedes delivered in clutch today. Vaughn, Madrigal, Hamilton and Vaughn all with good games too. Nice win.
-
I don’t get why he is answering questions on that still or why reporters are still asking it…other than to drag out a story.
-
Wait - hawk is back involved with the Sox? Shoot now I really wish I lived in the Chicago area.
-
I agree - feels like a good time to get Crochet some extra work/development.

This. Just have first baseman tag the base. The runner at home doesn’t matter given no outs. I don’t know what the defense was thinking.
