  1. QUOTE(smalls2598 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:29 AM) my buddy and his gf flew out Sunday night to go to colorado to get away for a few days. he figured he would check out Coors field to catch a baseball game. he is a casual fan, but he roots for the sox. he doesnt really look at the schedule or know in advance who the sox are playing in a given week. well, to his surprise, the rockies just so happened to play the Sox this week. so he was a happy camper. s*** I'm diehard and unless I'm going to games I rarely know who the hell they are playing the next day, lol. One thing I'm not is a schedule watcher and I don't pay much attention to standings until after the all star break.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 06:38 AM) I kinda wonder how many sox fans will be at Petco this weekend?? We know Soxtalk is gonna be representing The Dodgers and Angels series usually draw a pretty strong contingent of Sox fans, but the Pads have really good fans, still I'd expect a good number of Sox fans.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) I'm not playing. I have access to all of the statistics, and I didn't think that would be fair. I got the same access and you know damn well there is no way in hell I'm gonna actually get off my ass and look at the stats to come up with my guess So Mike, just do it the Jason way, be lazy and pick a random day, haha. On a sidenote, talking in 3rd person rules.
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 05:26 AM) This is why Timo should be the one to be demoted or cut. You didn't get the memo...he's gonna start at 2B tonight. Seriously though, I'm not worrierd. MVP (Wee Willie) is gonna come in and kick some butt at 2nd base if Iguchi has to miss any extended time
  5. Brownies
  6. Me, Spiff, Showtime, and Molto will be there Friday and Saturday
  7. Its never televised, so check around mlb.com and they probably have an archived version of day 1 somewhere.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Any problems with how Ozzie handled the bullpen today? Hell no. Cotts was pitching awesome after that 7th and he stuck with the hot arm. I'm sure if Cotts blew it we'd of heard something, but Cotts was fantastic and it was the right call sticking with him. I thought Ozzie did a good job today. Ozzie usually does a solid job, its just when he's off, he's way way off in my mind and it tends to come in streaks. The big flaw is I don't see the logic behind it. Its not like a move where I go I don't agree with it, but I can see why he's opted this way. Its just me sitting there going, what the f***, this makes absolutely no sense. Usually it involves Timo or Luis Vizcaino, but there are other instances like pinch hitting for a hot Guchi with a slumping Everett.
  9. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) so he's 2-1 for us. that's about our winning percentage this year, so he's been up to par with us. Also cost the Sox a game where he whiffed in a huge situation where the Sox pretty much had the game won. Soemone else failed along with Perez but Perez was the first to get the chance IIRC (it was with Percy on the mound against Detroit - someone else posted the info on the games, I'm just bringing it up in this thread).
  10. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) Name the other game he has won for us and provide proof. I'll admit the Memorial Day game he ran into a pitch and got a bloop hit that won that game. So, the Memorial Day game and... He had a big homer in a Twins game, dont' know if it was a game winner or not.
  11. QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) i'm seeing people so ungrateful for timo, man. hes a great utility player! hes won two games already this year with the swing of a bat, and played what seems like a half dozen positions at least. how many other utility players can you say that about not just in the american league but the entire MLB? There are maybe 5 players in the majors (in both leagues) that are worse than Timo. Josh Paul is one of them. Thats if you don't consider production per salary. Regardles Timo is awful, easily one of the worse players in baseball.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) He can fill out a bit as well like B-Mac so that fastball could yet have an a couple of extra MPH on it. With a plus curve, and an improving change, he could move, very very quickly through the system. We've got some real good SP prospects now though. As long as he can regularly hit 91-92, I don't have much concern. Even if he's 89 on a consistent basis while ocassionally hitting the 90,91,92 MPH range I'm not too concerned. If he can throw strikes with the fastball and keep hitters off balance with that hammer and good changeup, he's not going to have any trouble. That hammer is filthy and if his change is as good as Shaffer says, both the curve and change will turn his average FB into a good pitch (with time of course). Well at least thats the plan
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) The BCS is such a trainwreck at this point. It's so beyond f***ed up, with AD's just trying to protect their slice of the money. I liked that Congress looked into the steroid problem in sports, and would love to see them take further steps to regulate some sports. For starters I would want them to clean up the boxing mess, then look into the college sports cluster f*** that goes on... I'm not advocating paying these kids salaries, but when the schools are making millions of them and some can't even afford to go out for pizza or stories of guys who can't even afford basics, it really makes me sick. A few of my good friends have played collegiate sports (I'm not near as talented) and from there instances (and this is limited) they have been pretty well taken care of. Its definately hard work and you have to put in a lot of time working with the team, etc, but you also get a free education (in most instances) and are doing something you love. Most people work in college to pay for their education and athletes that get scholarships don't really need to. They also get spending money often and obviously a full scholarship includes perks for living and all that good stuff. Plus they get food allotments during road trips (pretty good ones at that). Now its definately rough on a guy that doesn't have a scholarship, but at the same time you make sacrifices in life for things you want to do and they are doing that. They wont' be able to work but they are doing something you love. High Schools make money off sports (well many sports don't, bad example) but what about the ones that do (the major major programs). Should the huge money making football schools in Texas (high school) pay the kids? Sure maybe they deserve some deals on room and board and other things since they can't work and are helping out, but I wouldn't say they deserve salary or things like that. I'd make sure that athletes got food and at least a discounted dorm (at a lot of schools they do) and I think thats a rather fair tradeoff. Just my 2 cents.
  14. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) he obviously won't shy away when the pressure's on, so those three starts showed his character and make-up, which are important qualities in a pitcher. the fact that he did it late in the season tells me he won't break down. sort of sounds like a righty Buehrle with a little more velocity and a great curve. Plus they were huge pressure situations. Stanford, Miss, and Tulane...damn is that impressive. The guy dominated every time necessary, including shutting out Stanford in the regionals. I think he threw 3 shutouts in the past 4 games and its not like its the only time he's been good. I love guys that throw strikes and his curve is definately a PLUS pitch. Thats a freaking hammer if I ever saw one.
  15. Blackout rules are based on IP addie and from what i have heard proxie's don't work. However sometime the blackout gets pulled around the 4th or 5th inning. I remember there was a national blackout for a Sox-Cubs game a few weeks back and around the 4th or 5th inning it was removed and you were able to watch the game on mlb.tv.
  16. Ozuna is just a really good athlete. I've came to really like the guy. Plus the guy has wheels and I love how he's always trying to go to right field.
  17. Just want to say to all that partook in todays draft thread...wow was that a blast. Everyone was really involved and active and lots of good information was given all around. It was a real pleasure, everyone sharing info they knew on guys. Just one of the many reasons I've came to love this site (and for the cheap bastard I am, I don't ever even cringe at the thought of paying the bill of this site...its something I enjoy and today was a reason why). And just think, there are still 32 more rounds
  18. Its a difference. If I were wealthy...hell no I wouldn't even consider it. I know I said I'd take the World Series and I love the Sox like no other but I'd at least have to consider it (being I'm just out of college and starting off). At the same time I have very little doubt that I'm going to be sucessful in life (I'm a confident SOB). Still were all diehards and lets agree on one thing...we'll take 5 bucks over a WNBA championship
  19. I'm not a Walker hater, but this is a really funny thread. Original post had me laughing and than SSI's was damn good too. Thanks for the laugh fellas
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) I thought you said he should have been sent down a few weeks ago Jason? I wanted him to go down because if he isn't getting consistent work no point in having him up here. Cotts was hurt big time by pitching at the major league level last year, imo. In fact I've long thought he has the ability to be a frontline starting pitcher (#2 at best).
  21. Contreras...nice, and he got the win Cotts...think of freaking beauty Way to go White Sox...lets get em again tomorrow
  22. Wow, tonight was a thing of beauty. As a Cotts backer I freaking loved it. Hell I'm probably Cotts biggest fan (next to Steff of course).
  23. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) I would've made the asshole wait and sweat. Ric Bucher on ESPN said that Phil Jackson said he would love to coach Chicago again and that they were on his few list of teams he would coach. Even LA was afraid of the Bulls not signing Skiles because they thought Chicago would have a great chance of swooping him away the same way they did with Kobe last year. Skiles acted like an ass throughout the whole negotiation process to even blasting the organization. If he got the money he wanted he's now paid like a top 5 coach. Newsflash, he isn't a top 5 coach. He shouldn't be getting paid the same amount as Larry Brown. f*** Phil Jackson. That piece of s*** can kiss my ass. Let me see him do something with a team that doesn't have two of the best 5 players in the NBA.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) I really hope they get both Cunn and the SDSU kid signed, especially considering the Sox not having any comp or 2nd round picks... That's what I was hoping for before the draft, too -- the Sox grabbing some guys in the 6th-7th rounds that had signability issues. BTW -- did that Danks (sp?) go? The kid who's committed to, what, Texas? And what about that pitcher Randar liked -- Bleich? I don't think Danks went. In fact there are a few guys that are really highly ranked taht didn't go. Typically guys with real solid commits. Putnam out of Ann Harbor is another high schooler that was rated in the top 100 and has yet to get drafted. I don't know if Putnam is related to Danny Putnam who played for Stanford.
