  1. Holy cripes, just finished watching this game on the DVR and jesus was I going nuts in the 9th. Awesome, awesome win
  2. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) A couple of years ago the Bears had a qb named Jim Miller. He had the body of a qb too, and he failed his drug test because he took an over the counter supplement that had a precurser to steroids in it. It produced a "hit" on the banned substance test and he was suspended for 4 games. I think that it's possible or maybe likely that this is what happened to Sanchez too, and will happen a few more times before some of this mental midgets figure out that you gotta be careful and read labels of what you buy at Joe's Vitamin World. But I do think Billy Boy took steroids. Besides the freakish arm strength disappearing so quickly, I think Billy had a pretty good case of acne going for him, which is also a byproduct of steroids. I have no information about the size of his testicles, however. I was going to bring up the whole Jim Miller situation. My guess is Sanchez took some over the counter type of vitamin or supplement or who knows what the contained something that now shows up or is like a precursor. Its going to be tough on him and I'm sure its going to happen to a few more players.
  3. Supposedly Alex Sanchez says he never ever took any steroids or anything along those lines. He is pissed over the suspension and is going to appeal and his attorney is stating he's never done anything along those lines.
  4. QUOTE(hi8is @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) i was there, where were you? i was seated along the third base side and then went to the grass for a bit 3rd base side, pretty much behind the dugout 5 or 6 rows up so we must of been close. There were a few Sox fans sitting behind us chanting pretty loud. The game was definately looking good until Jose started to really stink.
  5. Keith I've seen him pitch many a times. The guy has been a gamer and pitched big time for the Titans last year in the playoffs as their #2 behind Winsdor. If I were to compare Romero to anyone it would be Jim Parque. He is short, small in stature and has a fastball right around 89-91 (the times I"ve seen him clocked). He varies a bit from Parque in the sense that he has a pretty damn nasty curveball and mixes in a bit of a slider iirc. Romero definately has good stuff and guts, but his stature would lead me to believe he would slide, plus he doesn't have that dazzling fastball scouts drool over. He's definately one of the best pitchers in college but I don't know if he grades out as a top 10 pick. Definately a guy that could do some things though, especially because he's been developing a pretty good changeup and his control has done nothing but get better. His ERA would also be a lot lower had he not gotten a little beat up in his last outing against UCI.
  6. Supposedly the new owner wants some new blood and is blaming Pax partly for the teams collapse. Anthony/Izzo would be an intriguing combination. And I'd think Izzo would at least think about it considering he'd have Lebron on his side. Still, I think Izzo is pretty darn happy at MSU.
  7. McPherson will do a rehab stint and then should be in Anaheim. On a side note, Vladdy is the s***, he just creamed a homer in the 1st inning and then belted the go ahead double later in the game against the Rangers.
  8. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Tom Glavine is available, and I did draft him in the last round, but I decided to go with Haren instead. Joel Pineiro is also available. I had him on my team last year & I dunno if I want to relive that experience. I have in my watch list, though. I might add him depending on what he does in his first few starts. Aaron Harang (Cincinatti Reds) has had intriguing stats this spring, but everything that I've read says he sucks. I have him and Luke Wilson on my watch list. Don't look at spring stats too hard. You got to remember lots of time pitchers are working on new pitches or specifically working on one of their pitches. I know I saw Escobar pitch for the Angels this spring and he got hammered, but he was working his changeup almost exclusively. Guys pitch a lot different in spring then they would in the majors (at least those guys with major league jobs). Plus anyone that depends on the breaking ball in Arizona tends to have an inflated ERA.
  9. QUOTE(hi8is @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) hummm, i think it was on sunday the 27th of march at about 2am I was there this past weekend for a couple hours after snowboarding up in the mountains. We just missed each other in Arizona. I had to suffer through that game that Contreras gave up all those runs against Seattle
  10. How in the hell is Collaro so high. Guess this isn't a shocker, I've heard a few people think pretty highly of him. Fabio is way low though.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) I think they are talking s*** about me, Jose didnt seem to friendly, I guess telling someone "nice outting last time pitch!" isnt a good idea after the pitch allows 9 ER in 4 IP. Note taken. ROFL
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 06:43 AM) Some times things have a funny way of hitting home. I, not 15 minutes ago, found out that my father has prostate cancer. Reading that article, and the odds that Cowley faced, kind of helped me put things into the proper perspective. Thats horrible news Yasny. Thoughts go out to your dad.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) This was from the Sun-Times, by the way. Thats fantastic. He's by far my favorite beat writer. Seems to do quite a good job and has a good relationship with most of the players.
  14. All cable outlets that offer MLB Xtra Innings will be offering the same preview for those that are interested. Personally for anyone out of town, I definatley recommend it. Well worth the price.
  15. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) Unless the Twins skip Mays this weekend, it'll be Buehrle vs. Radke. Should be an awesome game. I'm looking forward to bbq'in and watching the Sox game on Sunday. Hopefully they can win.
  16. Cool stuff, I like the comments.
  17. When were you at Morongo?
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) The Blue Jays drafted him and gave him a closer role. They are also paying him almost $1 million this year, and he couldn't get anyone out. He is still being paid by the Blue Jays. He doesn't want to hook up with another team because he wants Toronto to have to pay his entire salary. Or is it that no other team is interested in his services? Perhaps all the batting practice pitching positions are taken. Its ok, they don't pay that well anyway. Its decent of him to take the kids to the game, but if he's decked out in Tampa gear, its not only a shot at Toronto management, but also an insult to every player in their dugout. If the Sox released Koch last year, and he showed up in Tampa at a Sox/DRay game decked out in Tampa gear with a foam finger, you wouldn't think its so funny. What it is is pathetic. The guy needs to grow up. Its a lousy example for those kids. And instead he could of easily followed the loophole and signed for a ton more money then the million and a half signing bonus he got. He was nearly as good of a prospect as the other guys that followed the loophole and got big time bucks. Billy is nothing but a class act. Awful pitcher since leaving Oakland, but the way he goes about his business is classy. I also think its wrong for the Jays to cut him after just 3 outings.
  19. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Apparently Billy Koch is so bitter about his release from Toronto that he bought a seat behind the Blue Jay dugout and is decked out in D-Rays gear with a foam finger. I wish I was making this up Lol, thats awesome. I know one thing, I won't be mad about Koch. He may of sucked with the suck but he did nothing but put the blame on himself and thats as class as it gets.
  20. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) I did NOT see that coming. Yep, definate shocker.
  21. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) whateve danman. Tell me he's better than Andre Iguadala When healthy Deng was one of the best rookies out there. Igu gets more pub for his defensive prowess but Deng is as good of a defender, imo. Many may disagree with me on that, but his length and lateral quickness impressed me, plus he's flat smart. Offensively he's further along then Igu as well. I'd say they are similar players but to me the upside lies with Luol. Both will be tremendous defenders, Luol is so smooth as a slasher though. Will Deng have a shot at playing in the postseason? Either way it was a good year for Luol and I look forward to watching him progress.
  22. Extended spring training is essentially where the short season players are as well as where injured players rehab. From what I've heard from some players it absolutely sucks. Its one of those things you never want to have to do. Of course when there the player will be working with the coaches on different things and they scrimmage and such. Extended spring is in Tuscon. And yes, Yofu is slated to start the year in extended spring training. To be honest I think this is more of an organizational thing because Yofu was pitching for the Sox when I saw them a little over a week ago against the Mariners. He was pretty pathetic too, couldn't come close to finding the strike zone. Then again all of the Sox looked bad that game (on easter sunday).
  23. That stinks about Espinal. However on a brighter note, I think the Barons got a shot to be a pretty darn good team this year. They have some guys that should be fun to watch and in a few years, at least some of them have a good shot at being sucessful big leaguers.
  24. Thats good news. Looking forward to Wednesdays game.
