  1. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) The Hamburglar is McDonald's very own crackhead. Arrest him for petty burger theft and he'll just be back on the street tomorrow doing it all over again. McCheese knows it's a lost cause, but what he should really be worried about is the Hamburglar going cannibal and eating the mayor himself.
  2. All three would fit the non-prospect category. As far as Bikowski goes, one of the posters here has a fascination with him (Heads) and he's going to tell you Bik is god, but in all honesty he's a good AA hitter and is definately a good guy to have on the Barons, but in terms of minor league potential there is none. The same can be said for both Martel and Becker. One thing about Becker is he definately can hit for power but he's strictly a DH. I don't know how Becker's power will translate in Birmingham but he could turn into a nice platoon player in Bham. My guess is Rogo will be playing LF/1st with the newly acquired 1st baseman from the Brewers getting a lot of time at 1st. Then Becker would get some ab's at DH, maybe ocassionally at first, just depends on how the breakdown is. I could say a little more but I'm not positive as to what other veterans the Barons will have. Not too familiar with Martel. I just know he's basically been a minor league role player, but he definately fit in nice with the Barons last year hitting around .300 if I recall. Remember while I say these guys aren't major leaguers, it doesn't mean they aren't valuable guys to have. All the minor league affiliates need to win for there fan base, like yourself, and its the minor leauge free agents, veterans and role players that really can help a minor league team win.
  3. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) EA is not going to let that happen, they've got the cash, if anything it'll be them getting exclusive rights. My friend told me that its pretty much a done deal that next year will be the last MVP.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) The mike davis save-my-job tour is underway. Yep, just wait, the Hawkeyes will earn there birth into the big dance tomorrow with a win at Illinois
  5. Hey Bham. Just want to say welcome aboard, good having ya here As far as I'm concerned at this stage of the game Pedro Lopez is the better prospect. We (FutureSox) are about to release our top 25 and Lopez rates quite a bit higher then Gonzalez. There are some things I like more about Gonzalez and I think total raw potential Andy may have more, but total potential is something that is looked at way too much, imo, and thats not to say that Lopez doesn't have any. Defensively I think both are very good. Gonzalez has a little stronger arm and Lopez is a little more new to the shortstop position, but I've seen both of them play and wow can they pick it. One of my favorite things to watch was when they were in WS as well as Kanny as a tandem at SS and 2nd, they would really make some great plays. Offensively Lopez is far more advanced and it is the big reason he was sent to the AFL instead of Gonzalez (who was originally selected, but then the Sox went with Lopez). However, Andy has a very developed eye and if he can improve his swing, which I must add, looked a lot better this past year then it did the previous year, then he could turn into the better offensive player. Lopez definately needs to work on drawing his walks, but he can hit for a good average. I'd say both are still two years away at best, even if they both are in Bham, which would be my guess (that will be the starting middle infield) and both do have the talent to be major league starters. My guess is both get a shot somewhere, don't know if they stick. Gonzalez definately has more power potential, especially because I think his body will still fill out a bit.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Even I, who finds Paris Hilton a nasty skank, finds her somewhat attractive in that avy. How do you make those motion thingy's? By stumbling upon it on the net
  7. QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) WTF!?! hello...... Chris Chambers, Marty Booker, David Boston.. Thats 3 #1's right there ide take 3 #1's over 1 superstar anyday They just need a running back and a little better system. Heck, AJ Feeley didn't even look too bad late in the season, although I still think they'll look for a QB as well. MOS, you think there is any truth to that rumor that Booker might get waived?
  8. Hell, I know the Bears won't get him and I doubt Minny deals inside there division, but Moss may be an asshole, but he'd be exactly what the Bears need (A stud WR).
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) Do other people besides me consider contreras our fifth starter? No, I've long considered Contreras the weak link, well him or El Duque, Duque simply because I have concerns over his durability.
  10. QUOTE(Cloudyguy09 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) didnt he have some kind of injury problems? Yes. He is still rehabbing them and from what I hear he's nearing 100% and will be so near the end of spring training. I don't know if he'll start the year in extended spring training or somewhere along the lines of Aball, but it will be interesting to see. I know the Angels indicated he would be ready right around the start of the year.
  11. QUOTE(YOUCANPUTITONTHEBOARDYES @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) If you watched Weaver in the 2004 College World Series, he led Cal State Fullerton very far. He is a STUD. He's got an awesome curve and excellent leadership. In the past, you'd wonder how he'd fare against the likes of Albert Pujols and SAAAAAAAAAMMMYY. But with this new and improved steroid policy, he's going to excel in the majors. Was just going to point out that Weaver pitched for Cal State Long Beach, but I do agree iwth a lot of what you said. I don't quite think he'll be an ace (aka Prior-esque) but I wouldn't hold it against him. Also welcome aboard, but can you PM me and pick a different user name that won't stretch the posts? I can change it for you with ease and everything else will stay the same. Thanks
  12. I listened to a lot of this on the radio and it sounded pretty good. I thought Condi did a nice job and the person who really attacked her was Barbara Boxer and Condi seemed pretty damn upset at Barbara attacking Condi's morals. Kerry also had a long talk with Condi but it was much more professional, imo. To be honest Boxer's approach is more reason why I think she's god awful, but it won't do me any good cause like Ted Kennedy she'll keep getting elected.
  13. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) It was great to see Mario again this weekend and talk a bit of Sox. It was also great as he walked with us down Michigan Ave in the frigid cold as we pointed out fresh nugs. Ya, with him thinking we were freaks or something
  14. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) What is his story, I missed it. I love to see greedy people fail. Harrington was originally drafted by either Colorado and San Diego. He demanded a huge bonus and never got it and re-entered the draft. Then he played independent ball wihle waiting for the next draft and his velocity went to crap. He went from mid 90's to mid 80's. I think the Pads drafted him the next year in the 3rd round or so and he still demanded major bucks. Then this year he was picked up by like the Drays or something in double digit round if I recall. IT may of even been his 4th time in the draft (but I think it was the 3rd). I'm too lazy to look the exact details up, but this is what I remember. In short he got drafted high, turned down a couple mill cause he wanted more and now won't get much anything and will never be a major leaguer.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Jas, what do you think of weaver as a pitcher?? I have never seen him pitch and am interested on what kind of player he would turn out to be. I don't think Weaver is as good as prior, but I have no doubt Weaver is a 3rd starter at worse in the major leagues. The guy had pinpoint control and good movement. Plus he really knew how to pitch. I'd of definately drafted him because I think he only needs about a year in the minors and could then be pencilled into the fifth spot. In terms of what I think of him, even giving him 10 mill a year for the next 5 years wouldn't turn out too bad simply because I think he spends one year in the minors and the next 4 in the majors meaning your paying him roughly 2 mill a year for 5 seasons, 4 of which are spent in the majors with him developing into a pretty good pitcher and thats a cheap price for a guy like that. Then after that you still have the arb service time and everything. However there is the risk that I'm way wrong on this and Weaver never makes it, but guys with his makeup and control (mixed with quality stuff) SUCEED.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Do all guys from Cali have that bad of a fashion sense, or is it just the ex-Hippies? Hey, is this some sort of low blow back at me Heck no, unless your on Sunset Blvd in which case Farmer would of fit right in.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:50 AM) No that title would go to Ken Harrelson hands down. If I had to hear how the White Sox tied the Yankees with 242 home runs again, I was going to kick his ass myself. He just kept repeating himself all weekend. I almost wondered if the dude is getting alzheimers or something. Don't worry, next time I come out I'll give the speach for ya. I liked how in the Boyer seminar we had the entire spiel memorized and would keep talking about it. I've been a Hawk fan, but I gotta say, at Soxfest he did nothing but annoy the hell out of me. I was so glad that in Saturdays seminar with Kenny he stopped yapping and bashing Willie and let Ozzie and Kenny do the talking.
  18. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:25 AM) I thought Ed did a nice job in the Pitchers seminar with Garland, Politte and AJ. Ya, I thought he did good, minus what I term cheap shots at Jerry Manuel and Magglio. I mean Kenny was nothing but classy in regards to the Maggs issue and I just didn't like the way Farmer and even Hawk to a lesser extent try to so pull the company line. Only reason I'll make fun of Farmer a bit is because the guy needs to wear some socks :banghead
  19. QUOTE(KittleWalk83 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Thanks for the reply. I really didn't know who Mario was. I didn't need a smartass answer like somebody. I'm sure Mark didn't mean it that way. He's sarcastic by nature. One thing I have check marked to do and actually finished a while back is to get up a history of Soxtalk type deal on this site for everyone thats came and may not know how the site got started and the details. I just got to get it up and edit it. As Alex (heads) will tell you, he had been nagging me for like two years to get it done, luckily he hasn't nagged me to actually put it up, lol. But after he sees this message I'm sure thats the next thing he'll be aiming me every day...the last thing was to get the board update down.
  20. You will not be able to purchase them at all this season unless you buy one of the 9, 18 or 27 game ticket packages. Brooks Boyer fielded a question like this at Fest and basically said it was a marketing concept to increase sales of these packages. They basically use this as leverage. Plus it forces or makes it more likely for Sox fans to purchase these tickets because Cub fans would have to buy a 9 game package just to get one game of Sox-Cubs at US Cell. I thought it makes sense, but it does suck for the diehard Sox fan that can't make it to a few games and would like to get to this one.
  21. QUOTE(KittleWalk83 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Who is Mario? Molto...he was the person who started SoxNet with me as his right hand man and then Murcie joining a little later. Eventually Soxtalk sprung out of it.
  22. QUOTE(KittleWalk83 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Hey Chisoxfn check you PM. Any pictures of SoxFest been posted online except for the ones on the White Sox site??? Just saw it, working on IT stuff at work so I'll respond when I get home tonight
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Yep.. the calm, cool, and collected Gods you are. Whoops... don't spill that drink..
  24. QUOTE(LDF @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) damn. btw thanks for the info Thats a key slot because 15 and lower does not give up first round compensation for free agent signings. I think the Sox did lose there 2nd round draft pick for signing El Duque or Hermanson, I forget which, but If I recall we signed one guy that had been offered arbitration.
