  1. How be damn, sounds like a good move to me. I don't know a thing about this guy, but if the Sox offered him the closer position he must have somewhat decent stuff or at least I'd hope so. Now we have him, Koch, Marte, Politte, Santiago, Wunsch...not too shabby.
  2. If these guys don't hire Shea because he's asking for 600-700 K, then I'm gonna flip. Shea sounds like a freaking awesome OC and he would make a tremendous hire.
  3. This is per the score, but supposedly the Bears will be interviewing him. Rivera has been the LB coach with the Eagles for a few years and I think he'd be a very good hire.
  4. The guy is fast and if he ever got back in track would be a pretty solid leadoff hitter. Considering he hasn't signed anywhere, I'm assuming he'd be willing to agree to a minor league deal and he'd give the Sox a little more depth.
  5. I'd assume with the contract they lose in Burrel that they feel they could sign Maggs long term.
  6. The big question is would the Phillies do it? They get a super star right fielder and a solid, bigger middle of the order thread of a ss in Jose Rollins. From the sounds of it, the Phillies aren't too pleased with Rollins but Byrd had a future with them, although they have a pretty good farm system.
  7. Of course, if Burrel and Konerko don't come bcak to form it blows up in our faces, but like you said, both have semi proven themselves and well each improved. Both have tough contracts, but the Sox end up saving money big time and could even add someone like Urbina to strengthen their pen and they fill essentially every hole but 2nd base and the bench becomes much stronger with Rowand coming off, Uribe as the ultra utility guy and Alomar Jr as the backup catcher. Then you have Gload as the lefty stick and potentially Marvin Bernard or someone like that. I'm getting pretty excited about this deal, it would really be a way to fill the rotation, fill the top of the order and cut payroll plus the Sox are getting players that are just about to enter their prime. Damn it, now that I'm excited I know it ain't gonna happen.

    New Semester

Southwest Missouri state was pretty good a few years ago when they had Alford as their HC. They made a few tourney runs if I recall, and one time I swear they made it to the Sweet 16, but I may be going senile and they just won one game.
  9. Ya and when you think about it, the deal makes sense as Philly will lose Jose's contract at the end of the season and they get rid of a long term contract in Burrel and Magglio can be a real force in their lineup, the one questionmark they really have. This deal probably puts the Phillies over the top but it also makes the Sox better, imo.

  11. I caught this on WSI and supposedly Chet Koppick mentioned this deal. Don't ask me who the hell Chet Koppick is White Sox Trade: - Magglio Ordonez - Jose Valentin - Prospect (Mentions Neil Cotts) White Sox Receive: - Randy Wolf (LHP) - Pat Burrel (OF) - Marlyn Byrd (CF) - Jimmy Rollins (SS) This move makes sense in the sense that the Phillies add instant offense and they can afford to give up Randy Wolf cause their rotation is very deep. They also give up a pretty bad contract in Burrel who is due only 4 mill this year, but signed a big time deal and the money will go up and up and I think at his max for one year he makes like 13 mill. Rollins just signed that deal for 2.5 mill. Byrd is signed for cheap, he's a very young, high upside centerfielder that posted very good numbers for the Phillies last year. Don't know the status on Wolf, but he's a very good left handed pitcher. To me this deal would be damn good. The Sox save money and get quality players in return. Its a loss to lose Cotts, but it seems relatively fair. Essentially I see it as Jose Valentin for Jimmy Rollins and Maggs and the prospect for Randy Wolf, Pat Burrel and Marlyn Byrd. Wolfs Stats (27; 2.375 Mill last year): 16-10, 4.23 ERA, 200 IP, 176 H, 177 K -The two prior years he had ERA's in the low to mid 3's. Burrel Stats (27): .209 AVG, .309 OBP, 21 HR, 64 RBI, 72 BB, 142 K -However, the year before he hit .282 with a .376 OBP, 37 HR and 116 RBI Jimmy Rollins Stats (25): .263 AVG, .320 OBP, 8 HR, 62 RBI, 20 SB Marlyn Byrd (26; 300 K): .303 AVG, .366 OBP, 7 HR, 45 RBI, 11 SB (1cs) -Played in 135 games and has the potential to get even better. The one drastic flaw in all of these hitters are they do strike out. Byrds k's should decrease over time, but the same can't be said about Burrel and Rollins since they have had relatively high strikeout numbers since reaching the majors. However, a top of the order that consists of Rollins and Byrd has plenty of speed and should be potent. Byrd also is a very solid defensive centerfielder and the Sox have an outfield of Lee, Byrd and Burrel. Not quite as good defensive as Lee, Rowand, Magglio. In the infield, Rollins is pretty damn good defensively and has the potential to get better with the bat. He is also very fast and a threat to steal at all times. Randy Wolf is a pitcher that helps solidify the rotation. The Sox also lower their payroll quite a bit in this move and get a lot of players that should be contributing for a long time. If the Sox could somehow do this deal and give up a lesser prospect or even someone like Jon Rauch instead of Neil Cotts, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  12. While Rowand probably won't match Everett's numbers, lets think of it this way. If Everett plays steady all season, then while his 2nd half won't match what we got out of Carl in the 2nd half, his 1st half would definately outmach the crappy production we got from him and anyone else that played center until we acquired Everett. So you could almost make a case for them evening out. Now in the playoffs, your better off with Everett, but I think Rowand has enough ability to play well.
  13. Isn't that what sports are about. Unless were the lousiest team in the majors or in the AL East, we technically got a shot Without hope, what is there
  14. Remember, those same people that call Jimenez unheady would of given up on Carlos Lee a long time ago and now he's turning into one of the more liked players (I'll admit...at times I've wanted Carlos gone if they could of gotten value for him). This winter, Jimenez hit .360 and set a record for 2nd baseman of some sort (Either OBP or Average, i forget..that or he flirted with it). Of course its winter, but Jimenez is going to be a very good on base kind of guy. People always had it in for him and I realize every once in a while he made a gaffe, but when he made a gaffe people went nuts. Folks, Angel fans used to do the same for Garret Anderson, who almost never looks like he's running hard or anything like that. Oh well, enough of me defending Jimenez, unfortunately he's gone and yes, he was one of my favorite players. I absolutely loved his swing.
  15. My humble opinion, but to me Dean and Clark are the worse democrats on the platform. For that reason I have no problem if they win the nomination, but I have always felt Lieberman is a class act and have nothing really against Kerry and Edwards, they seem like class acts although I don't agree with their political views. Edwards has one thing going for him and its kind of sad but I was listening to the radio and a lot of ladies were calling up and saying that he got their vote because he was cute. And the guy that is the biggest joke in the democratic party has to be Tom Daschle (may of spelled that wrong)...joined by Mrs. Joke Hillary Clinton
  16. Thats why almost every republican I know is hoping that Dean wins the nomination of the democratic party. If Dean is running, he will kick his own butt. He opens his mouth way too many times before he thinks about what comes out. Nothing against him, plenty of people do it, but it doesn't make for good results when you are trying to win an election. And I got to be honest, does anyone think that McCain will run as a VP? I mean I understand he's gotten a little bit of a cult following and I know he dislikes Bush, but it seems really unlikely.
  17. I always assumed it was to give states that don't necessarily have major political say, an opportunity to recieve national spotlight. Plus, if they started it off in California, essentially the nomination process could be over because it is such a large sample to the point that the winner in that region would likely be the winner of the democratic party. By going to a smaller state, you give more candidates the opportunity to make runs, etc. I don't really know much about the entire caucus, but I also know there are a few states that allow republicans to vote in democratic caucuses and vice versa or at least I thought there are. And I think the major reason the parties are blocked is because these caucuses are essentially for party members to vote for who they want to represent their party. If your an independent then I think your vote doesn't get heard then, because you aren't essentially a member of the party and the party wants the people loyal to it, picking its candidates to represent them for the president. It would almost be like me or you voting for some union when we really aren't a part of it. It wouldn't necessarily be fair to put the decision of outsiders on the members of the union. Far fetched example, but its all I could think of.
  18. I have and always will be a big time Jimenez fan. He made things look really easy on the field and he's going to be a pretty damn good hitter and top of the order guy for a long time. He's an exceptional 2 hole hitter in my mind.
  19. They will just wobble as the polls wobble, imo.
  20. Lol, Daschle was also blaming tax cuts on the increasing health care. As far as I'm concerned those two issues have absolutely no correlation. He also said that the tax cuts are lowering the insurance coverage the middle class americans get and once again I'm left wondering what the hell do those have to do with eachother. The Tax cuts goal is to stimulate the economy and both sides can argue that, but the Health Care issue is a seperate issue that has to be handled differently. One major issue is whether the US should open up the pharmaceutal market, which would instantly lower drug prices. Whether that will happen or not, I don't know. And I dont' see how increasing government spending is going to make it better and having to pay higher taxes, but thats just me. I only caught part of the State of the Union, but saw all the rebutals, right now I've been concentrating on California, which is so utterly screwed up from 5+ years of Gray Davis.
  21. Bush was making a point to many of the people that argued with him for stepping over the UN and doing something a little dirty to handle what I felt was a very important issue, Iraq.
  22. If Jones falls to the Bears then book a trade down made by the Bears. They will deal with the Patriots.
