Trade Proposals

Featured Replies

Let’s get creative and try figuring out a way to get another starting pitcher on our club in an early strike before the trade market heats up.

Since our infield is set at the MLB level and has a lot of depth, anyone think we could build a package around Jacob Gonzalez for a solid rotation piece?

God this is so much more fun then the other way around

One I have my eye on is Joe Ryan. If we can avoid a lockout, we'd have two years of control.

How much would it take to get Mitch Keller, assuming the pirates fall out of it?

That would have to involve Carlson, no?

I’d think that Gonzalez would be a player the Pirates would love to have.

Too confusing with Nick Gonzalez.

what pirates' pitcher are you expecting back?

I'd think some veterans on minor league contracts would be opting out of their contracts in about 12 days. June 1st is a big deadline for that.

We’re in a weird spot with adding in my opinion. The odds of acquiring a good, young, cost controlled SP are very low, and I’m still not interested in trading any meaningful prospects for a “solid vet type”. We aren’t competing for a World Series.

I don’t hate the idea of trading Gonzo (+?) for a young “failed”/struggling former top prospect SP though. No idea who that would be though

Same here - it’s why I presented this thread… thought some more knowledgeable folk may have some ideas.

Always be selling. Or at least, don't use resources on older players. That's how you get worse. Especially avoid hyped names and career years.
Walbert Urena - Angels. 22 year old was ranked in the teens in the Angels system, wasn't pitching well in the minors, but they called him up anyway. He's pitched reasonably well. But he throws mid-high 90s. A couple of 2nd tier prospects should do it. Gonzalez maybe.

Yeah, who wouldn't want a couple of second tier prospects?

And thus will start the parade of free pitchers for a week or so.

He is the Angels 18th ranked prospect and he’s only 22 years old. If he is currently pitching well for them, why would they now turn around and trade him for “a couple 2nd tier prospects” that may not even be as good as him?

Also, do other teams even think that Jacob Gonzalez is the real deal yet? He has been a horrible hitter in the minors for three years until his 200 or so plate appearances this year.

Getz will be all over it. And honestly he has hit on a few dumpster dives. Davis, Peters, hill , grichuk, Romo, Hudson have all contributed and won games for us. Last year vasil and Smith. You throw enough 💩 at the wall something will stick.

If Gonzalez keeps hitting like he is, I might consider trading Meidroth over Gonzalez. Like some one suggested in the minor league game thread, I think you call him up and just move him around in like a Ben Zobrist type toll......That's if they dont just move on from Benni which is probably ideal even after showing signs of life.

I hope they don't do anything. No reason for it.

Reminds me of the usual off day discussions.

Not like he didn’t have pedigree though. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he has a ton of value or would be a “headline” type prospect in a big trade deadline deal. But I definitely think there would be a decent amount of teams interested, just the value is debatable

I don't know if I endorse the "post-hype" player when they're actually looking like they might be competing. I sure don't think they should trade Gonzo and Oppor +2 for Sonny Gray in July. I'd think Nishida for a tweakable Houser.

This is all fun right now, but they are 2 games above .500. I'm digging them hanging with the Padres, Cubs and A's, but when push comes to shove, I'd think a serious team will study up on the Sox, just to make sure they take 2 of 3, or whatnot.

That said, what's a post-hype pitcher? Burke? Cannon? Somebody as ranked as Hagen is going to get dozens of chances to hit. Outlooks on Sandlin must have soured for the Red Sox to have let him go for salary relief.

I would imagine every team thoroughly scouted, talked to, and game planned Gonzalez in that draft. Every team who picked after the Sox probably even figured a development path for him if their guys weren't there and he was the last, best resort.

I've thought about this and well. It's definitely a bit risky because Gonzalez was basically a non-prospect going into this year. And Meidroth is on pace for a 3-4 WAR season. He's under control for 5 for years (including this year). They've had such a drought at 2B for years, it's nice to finally have a decent player there. I think eventually he'll get traded away, but I'm not sure if that's this year. I'd be open to it if we can get a worthwhile starter for him.

Exactly. I dont think there's much of a need to start throwing high draft picks away.

As much as Id like to say I told you so about the Sox being on the rise moreso than you'd think , we can't over react to all the good play and good vibes.

I dont know if they can pick up a guy for practically nothing like they did with Adrian Houser last year but let's get to that phase and another 45 games before we start skewering the depth in the minors.

Have to keep in mind that Mune may not be with the Sox in 2028 which means that they would have to trade him after this year . If you ate going to lose him you cant lose him for nothing or even a comp pick.

This uptick may be short lived without a 40 HR lefty Japanese superstar bringing happy happy joy joy to us and JR too. So we may need Gonzales and Cholowsky and other picks from that draft and those players we get for Mune especially with our top young arms struggling and injured.

Top position player prospects will always be worth more than top pitching prospects .

Getz is playing the long game as he should. Keep on amassing talent and build a strong franchise. If they do that by the time Ishbia comes in this franchise could be the Midwest version of the Dodgers dominating the division and making the playoffs year after year over our weaker more impoverished division foes. I like that scenario a lot more than trying for quick fixes in a year that's unexpectedly good but not likely to produce a long playoff run .

We don't want to end up like the Mets with the owner spending mindlessly ,playing catchup, looking for quick fixes.

It's imperative that JR not be a part of any overexuberant hopes at the moment because playing the long game is the only way to go without him around to crush your dreams.

I agree with the Ben Zobrist approach. Assuming everyone keeps hitting, the only two players I think cause a problem for Meidroth at second would be Carlson or Roch (by either playing second or moving Colson elsewhere).
