God this is so much more fun then the other way around One I have my eye on is Joe Ryan. If we can avoid a lockout, we'd have two years of control.

.721 for an elite defender at shortstop would be a pretty valuable player in the mlb. That said, Carlson is a 19 year old who needed significant swing changes. Very hard to say what he’s gonna be. I c

Next time we get swept ur on. Mojo is too good since the Colson pic.

Except Colson't mojo is shot recently.

The notion that Meidroth and Antonacci are redundant, and thus one should be traded, does not hold water. (credit to Joe Pesci "My Cousin Vinnie").

Both players have played important roles in the line-up. Chase is a better 2nd basemen, but so what? Sam is hitting close to .300 and is absolutely clutch. He is learning the LF position on the go but as long as he is hitting with a high OBP, that's OK. Those two players along with Tristan Peters are the glue that holds a line-up with the power hitters together. If only Kyle Teel could get back into this line-up and maybe bring Braden up for RF. That line-up would be awesome.

Sure. For now.

The issue is in the future when you have to choose between Bonemer and Antonacci.

At some point, you will have Cholowsky Carlson and Colson that are all from well above average to elite SS's.

SS's tend to go to either second base, CF or third base/RF if moved off that position.

Tatis for example has gone from SS to GG RF and now 2B. Merrill to CF from SS.

You know it's very likely that this never happens. Almost certain in fact. Betting every prospect will hit their ceiling in the ultimate in self delusion.

Yes just like odds of Colson's even making it to the majors was about 50/50 or maybe less.

Bonemer feels pretty certain to at least make it up now.

Carlson has a lot further to go...especially as a hitter. Fulfilling potential, who knows?

The last Sox prospects drafted first round not to make it...Jared Mitchell, Hawkins Honel, right? Keenyn Walker was supplemental.

Poreda and Ring didn't also do much...were traded.

There is zero chance every single one of these guys succeeds to the point where they are fighting for the same positions.

Zero.

Don’t get wrong I’m not trying to run the guy out of town and I’m not saying he’s bad by any means…BUT if Meidroth can’t hit for any semblance of power the reality is he’s likely going to get replaced in the next couple of years. Without stealing bases, hitting for power, or being elite on D he’s kind of in no man’s land for a baseball player in 2026. Probably would be a future all-star in the 90’s though.

Back then you just looked at homers and RBIs and maybe SB’s.

OBP was the 2001 A’s.

I’m think I’m with @GreenSox on this thread. Yes, this team needs more starting pitching to compete, but there’s no way they should be trading away any good young prospects for a rental arm. I wouldn’t even deal Jacob Gonzalez at this point. Ishbia may not own the team for awhile and Jerry may not decide to spend with the team hovering around 2nd place. Remember what Jerry reportedly said about finishing in 2nd place? Keep the prospect train to the minors moving and see what they can do. In hindsight of Grant Taylor’s last outing, I can’t believe we ever talked about trading him.

I keep circling back to Yennier Cano. Having a really good season and has 2.5 years of control. Wonder what it’d take to get him.

Won’t be top prospects. He has been hit or miss over the years. Impending free agent. Good proposed target though. Sox could acquire this guy without giving up anyone we would miss.

Braden

Bonemer

1-1 pick

Billy Carlson

I’ll take those odds and only worry about Carlson.

If you add in Antonacci Meidroth Quero Schultz Hagen McDougal Oppor, sure roughly half will fail.

I think @fathom nailed this one early and Carlson will be used as the ultimate trade bait going forward. Probably not this season but next season for sure.

Carlson has to be a threat to hit 15-18 homers or he’s not going to draw the huge offers.

At a 721 ops now one triple and no homers.

An avatar bet? That's weak. Put your money where your mouth is and make it a ban bet.

Why would I want to see either of my two favorite posters miss significant time? Screw this ban bet, kiss, and make up…

I certainly wouldn’t be avoiding Rich cuz I am afraid of blocking Carlson. He’s a true wait and see prospect.

Again, zero chance all four of them fight for the same position, at the same time.

How longhave you watched baseball? It's the ultimate insanity in projecting out all prospects as successful.

I know it's easy to say now, but Detroit should have sold Skubal. Not only was that a move for the future, it would have brought in a couple of young player who would have helped the team this season. They low-balled the guy in arb (although I suspect that was so that he would get his number) so there was no real thought of extending him (which is really the only reason not to sell).
I remember Williams made 2 throwaway deadline deals for a couple of stiffs in 2012 his swansong year. Well he dumped Devinski (a fantastic reliever for the Astros - but he was over pitched) and Escobar who had several excellent MI years. Between this and Hahn's well-documented moves, they purchased themselves another rebuild.
