Trade Proposals

Tough position right now especially with trading a guy like Meidroth, do you break up the great vibes this team has right now and trade Meidroth or do you trade a prospect from the Minors for a starting pitcher who can help in leading them to the playoffs. If Gonzalez is for real as he’s having a monster year at Charlotte, he can’t be the prospect you trade, again this is tough.

God this is so much more fun then the other way around One I have my eye on is Joe Ryan. If we can avoid a lockout, we'd have two years of control.

I agree with the Ben Zobrist approach. Assuming everyone keeps hitting, the only two players I think cause a problem for Meidroth at second would be Carlson or Roch (by either playing second or moving Colson elsewhere).

Or Antonacci if he eventually moves back to 2B…where his bat has even more value.

2027 Starting Pitcher Free Agents

Tracking the status and signings of all 2027 Starting Pitcher free agents, including total value, average and guarantees.

here’s the FA list, to start with

Peralta, Alcantara, Robbie Ray, Joe Ryan (to Sox seems unlikely), Sonny Gray, M.Kelly/Burnes/Gallen if AZ falls back and needs to cut, it will be here or Ketel Marte…Luis Castillo would be a bad contract Seattle is looking to dump

de Grom with a huge contract

Is JR really going to authorize adding significant salary?

They really should have taken Giolito back, lol.

M.Gore, Eduardo Rodriguez, Civale, Eovaldi, Jack Leiter, Shane Baz (unlikely O’s give up that fast), Foster Griffin, Pallante, Kochanowitz, Lorenzen, R.Nelson, Sugano, Houser, Quintana, Zach Littell…it’s going to be taking a struggling or bad contract guy to eat innings as a professional and hope the offense can keep the team afloat in those starts.

Want Clevinger nowhere near this team…no no and hell no!

Honestly would take Trevor Bauer first.

In the interview, the 35-year-old Bauer revealed that he has even offered to play for free or donate his entire salary, yet nothing convinced those teams to offer him a contract. In 2025, he volunteered to pitch for the injury-plagued New York Yankees. However, all his proposal did was offend MLB fans.Apr 28, 2026

Not really that tough imo. There's no rush to do anything. For all we know we come back to earth and lose like 15 of 20 in July or something to put us firmly out of contention even in a weak league. Gonzo can still benefit from another 200 AAA PA and Chase while not a star or anything is a decent enough regular on a team controlled deal, no rush to do anything with him either.

If we want to "rush" some things I'd probably consider getting out in front of a Colson extension. If he's a 4-6 WAR SS he's gonna be really expensive and we can try and get out in front of that.

Seems there won't be any movement any time soon with Mune. At least not until the All-Star Break.

That really only leaves Colson, Vargas and Davis Martin.

Hasn't been much interest in extensions for starting pitchers from JR (Crochet, for example, the most recent case), so that finally leaves one with Colson and Miguel to consider.

12th in mlb Colson 2.1 fWAR

20th Vargas 1.9 fWAR

35th Murakami 1.6 fWAR

Davis Martin still Top 5 on the pitching side...one starts to wonder if Sean Newcomb would at least consider starting again?

Seems more likely than GT.

Or Hicks as well. He's already a sunk cost...not much to lose.

K.Griffin Meidroth 0.7 Vladimir Guerrero Jr., #91/92/93, just ahead of Pete Alonso

Couldn't have an odder trio contributing roughly equal value.

Maybe it's because i haven't watched much at all the last 2 years and haven't fully got to embrace his grindiness, but just looking at the back of the baseball card, Meidroth just seems "Okay." If Gonzalez keeps hitting like this come trade deadline time, I think it's worth a consideration.

They won’t consider that unless his ops sinks to 625ish or his defense falls off.

He's 12th in fWAR among 2nd baseman, so he is a solid player. He's also under control for a while. Not sure what his trade value is, but I'd be open to exploring it. He'll get traded at some point with all the talent behind him on the minors (including Roch).

Genesis Cabrera might be better than Richards...

Might not if you look at the IronPigs numbers his last time out...?

As well as this team is playing and surprising many, I'm not sure they will be in a position to consider adding at the deadline. Nor do I think they'll be sellers. I could see a few minor trades, maybe to add a starting pitcher. But I'd hate to see them trade some of the future for a moderate upgrade for the near future.

I wouldn't want to do any move unless it is for a controllable piece that'll help us through 2030. I think you do try and get rid of any 2026 or 2027 expiring contracts and older players though since I believe we will have no 2027 season or a greatly reduced season

These are the kind of trades I am still looking at. Look, there is a fair chance that this is not nearly as good as many think it is this year.

#1, I am not making any trades to give up anyone until at least mid July.

#2, I am not giving up anyone who has 6 years of control.

#3, If I am giving up guys with control, I am getting more control back.

#4, no rentals unless they are basically a short term contract swap.

#5, no Mike Trout.

This all makes sense. I'd imagine there will be a small bunch of minor league free agents over the next ten days to pick through, also.

This is where I’m at too. I’m nowhere near high on Jacob Gonzalez and see him as being most valuable to cash in for whatever we best can nab in a trade.

He is the Angels 18th ranked prospect and he’s only 22 years old. If he is currently pitching well for them, why would they now turn around and trade him for “a couple 2nd tier prospects” that may not even be as good as him?

Also, do other teams even think that Jacob Gonzalez is the real deal yet? He has been a horrible hitter in the minors for three years until his 200 or so plate appearances this year.

Because 18th ranked is a 3rd/4th tier prospect.
Sox need to bring Gonzalez up and find out if he's the real deal. Benintendi can sit for 2 months.

Your last post said, “A couple of 2nd tier prospects should do it. Gonzalez maybe.”

So I’m not sure if you were considering Jacob Gonzalez a 2nd tier prospect or not with the way you worded that sentence. Jacob Gonzalez is currently ranked 24th for the Sox. Obviously he should move up with his performance this year when the listing is updated, but not sure how much.

Meanwhile, Walbert Urena just had another good start last night for the Angels, so I would be surprised if they were willing to give up a starting pitcher prospect [that they know] and that is already performing well in the majors for Sox prospect(s) [that they don’t know] and that aren’t already in the majors and succeeding. Ultimately, it will be interesting to see if Urena can overcome his walk rate long-term.

Looking to see what the league was offering for Erick Fedde at the 2024 TDL, and Adrian Houser last year, I don't see why Gonzo wouldn't bring back 2 months or a year and 2 months of somebody's low-strikeout, grounder, junk-baller who's currently throwing a 2.00 ERA, but they don't dominate the way a strikeout monster would.

At this point, I’d rather see other lower tier prospect(s) moved for a starter if need be. May as well see what they have in Gonzalez considering they dropped a first round pick on him. I don’t think anyone knows what to expect from him, but I’d rather see what he can do than trade him for a Fedde/Houser type.

That's probably true at this point; Urena's a good example of keeping players moving and getting them up levels to see what they have. 18th ranked prospect (Angels -bottom level farm - 18tth ranked prospect).
Anyway, find some young pitching. Much better than paying big for for older pitchers or "Closers." Sox are invigorated with youth; keep it going.

It was a good idea, but we would be cursing Getz is he traded away a 22-year old starter that was having success in the majors in 6 starts. Although he could blow up at any moment due to his walks. But I agree with you. I wouldn’t trade for a Fedde/Houser type. We should be able to manufacture a guy like that. I don’t care if people say that’s expecting too much.

Sox really can't blow the Taylor situation. If he is going to be a reliever, they need to trade him this deadline and get an absolute haul for him. I still want him to start, but the more entrenched he gets in the bullpen the less likely that is.

He can net more than anyone that will be available this year and they need to capitalize on that market now.
