I know it's easy to say now, but Detroit should have sold Skubal. Not only was that a move for the future, it would have brought in a couple of young player who would have helped the team this season. They low-balled the guy in arb (although I suspect that was so that he would get his number) so there was no real thought of extending him (which is really the only reason not to sell).
I remember Williams made 2 throwaway deadline deals for a couple of stiffs in 2012 his swansong year. Well he dumped Devinski (a fantastic reliever for the Astros - but he was over pitched) and Escobar who had several excellent MI years. Between this and Hahn's well-documented moves, they purchased themselves another rebuild.

I said it over the winter when the arb hearing fell apart.

God this is so much more fun then the other way around One I have my eye on is Joe Ryan. If we can avoid a lockout, we'd have two years of control.

.721 for an elite defender at shortstop would be a pretty valuable player in the mlb. That said, Carlson is a 19 year old who needed significant swing changes. Very hard to say what he’s gonna be. I c

Only the Brewers and Rays get away with that trade...but not to the Dodgers.

Won’t be top prospects. He has been hit or miss over the years. Impending free agent. Good proposed target though. Sox could acquire this guy without giving up anyone we would miss.

He has control through 2028.

White Sox get: Luis Castillo, Rob Refsnyder (whom we will release)
Mariners get: Jordan Hicks, Andrew Benintendi, Boston Mead

You’re right. I missed that. That raises the price.

That's interesting. I suppose that you have to feel you can fix Castillo to make it work, as he has been AWFUL to start this year, and it doesn't seem to be injury related as his velos are steady to up, across his portfolio.

I get the thought here, but it's just bad for bad. Although maybe Castillo could be a decent bullpen arm, but his stuff has regressed so much over the past few years that I could see him falling off as a starter from here forward.

How much are the Mariners actually saving taking on those two bad contracts?

Castillo is somewhere around $34.5 million remaining if they traded him at the end of June.

Wouldn't they almost cancel each other out?

Then they're also eating Refsnyder's deal, it just doesn't make sense, because you have just made the Benintendi problem even bigger.

No Spencer Jones proposals? Gonzalez for Jones. Who says no?

The Yankees in a heartbeat.

Ill take that bet. Something dumb like an avatar bet!

I can't get enough of this guy proving me wrong!

Ha! I’ll pass on the bet. I don’t want to feel responsible if he starts tanking, even if it’s a dumb avatar bet.

I’m also the last guy that knows anything about fWAR and pitchers. But I have always been a huge Davis Martin fan, even before this year. He can throw any pitch in any count for a strike. In that regard, he has always reminded me of a right handed Mark Buehrle.

This wouldn't happen until they were in sell mode.

Red Sox get: Hagen Smith, Oppor

White Sox get: Gray, Whitlock

That is two falling knife prospects. What is the interest from Boston?

Upside gamble I suppose. If these two are actually performing, do you think the White Sox do this deal? If Boston does sell, they probably keep Whitlock anyway, as they will look to contend in 2027.

An avatar bet? That's weak. Put your money where your mouth is and make it a ban bet.

Very few are willing to take on the risk of a ban be

Sonny Gray? If so, that’s an incredibly gross trade for us and one Getz will not consider making.

Would a Gonzo for Jake Bennet trade make sense? Red Sox just acquired Bennett last year in somewhat strange prospect for prospect swap, but he’s 25 and still not in the big league rotation. Boston is also desperate for IF help specifically so a 1 for 1 swap of 2 guys that will get a deserved immediate call up to the majors for their new team makes some sense to me.
