  2. Another guy whose put up amazing numbers is Todd Helton. As long as he keeps hitting in Coors he'll have some dominating stats by the time he retires. Good point on the stadium.
  3. All I will say is Bonds is super impressive. Right now the guy that could put up the most mind-boggling numbers is Albert Pujols. But he has to stay healthy and keep hitting the cover off the ball.
  4. For the most part i agree with that and i see no reason for the national media to bash the sox...baseball tonight analysts have always left the door open for a sox run at the division and stuff and don't really bash em more than any other team. I tend to agree with that area. I just laughed last night when Gammons said Torre will either retire to Hawaii at the end of the season, or go manage the Red Sox.
  5. Thats a real tough one. -Chicago Cubs would probably be the frontrunners in my mind, if the asking price for Lowell is too much -Giants have no need for a second baseman (Durham is having a very good year) -Cardinals could use a 2nd baseman with Vina down (So he's a possibility; Cardinals don't have much to offer though) -Boston doesn't need an infielder -Yanks don't need an infielder (Plus Boston isn't after him) -Dodgers aren't desperate in that area, but a small possibility (Only if they'd unload him for very cheap -Oakland A's are a definate possibility; Bean is more then willing to acquire guys for half a season, let em walk, and get the compensation -Twinkies don't have a real need at 2nd, although Castillo would be a hell of a pickup. -Mariners and Angels have no need in that area (Boone and Kennedy aren't going anywhere) -Could be an outside shot that the Cinncinatti Reds would go after him, but they don't need hitting, they need pitching. -Houston Astros and Arizona Diamond Backs don't need hitting. That pretty much covers all the teams in competition, so I don't know if there will be a ton of interest in him. His value may actually slide, if their is a lack of a bidding war.
  6. Isn't it pretty much common sense that says both the Marlins and Sox are going to be trading in a few weeks if the teams aren't close enough.
  7. Great to hear all is Well Nuke.
  8. Shake Yan's hand and tell him good luck in Birmingham, will ya? Maybe if we act like it is going to happen, it actually will? Will Do.
  9. Damn I can't wait. Going to get there a bit early, and just put the digital camera in the charger. Want to watch the skills contest, etc. Too bad Reed isn't there, but I still get to see Honel, Wing, Meaux, and Yan, plus some other real good prospects. Some other big names I noticed were Ervin Santana (Angels), Jeff Mathis (Angels-C), and Andy Marte.
  10. I don't care if the Cubs win if it helps us as well. But thats because I have nothing against the Cubs. I typically root for them unless they are playing the Sox. What that is, my friend, is heresy of the first order. (I ain't kidding either. As an admin, what kind of an example are you setting? Shame.) Lol. I didn't say I was proud of it. It was once a coin flip when it came to the two teams playing eachother. This series, I was swearing whenever the Cubs did something good. More and more the tide is shifting towards the Silver and Black.
  11. What slackers we are
  12. Damn, going to likely get over 100K in a year. Thanks to everyone, even if half of us look like this after watching a Sox game
  13. Agreed, I hope all is well with Baggs. He's a great guy and he definately knows his stuff about the Sox. I may disagree with him on a lot, but the two of us teamed up and were always against the Ritchie deal and always for the proposed Gagne trade.
  14. In fact, Cotts is starting tonight and Birmingham has a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th inning. Awesome. Will have to write something up on this for FutureSox

    Got mine today!

Harry Potter is a story that has magical elements like any number of stories. There are any number of people who love to attack things because it is a great way to raise money: pronounce something the devil's tool and you can sell a lot of books, get media time, and get results from fund raising letters to fight this new horror. And it is all bulls***, in my opinion. Harry Potter is a story and nothing more, nothing less. Just like Cinderella. Whenever money can be made by bombastic crusades against this latest new work of the satanic one - whether it be rock in roll in its day or whatever the topic de jour - there will be some idiots right there bashing and trashing and pocketing money all at the same time. Its getting children to read 800 page books, so I'm all for it. Kids should read more anyway.

    Got mine today!

I'll say this, I never once remember reading any book near 800 pages as a kid. The longest books I would read were the Hardy Boys. I used to read a book a week at least. That was before video game systems were widely out though.
  19. Is it the Dips*** one? If someone can post a link to it I'll be glad to put it up. I had a few to put up that SoxHeads made but have been working 7 days a week the past two weeks trying to get things all in order so I can step away for 4 days this weekend. Just put up a link to it and I'll get it up before I go, I promise...well as long as I can figure it out

    Ritchie

He's talking about Tony Ritchie. He was drafted by the Sox, but instead opted to go to FSU and he become one of the top hitting catchers and was drafted by the Cubs after turning down more money by the Sox. Like I've always said, I don't blame the Sox, they had a fair offer on the table and in all honesty, they are probably one of the most agressive teams in terms of the draft. you are right on this one. he thou i kept on saying that if the sox put 100+ more on the table, they would have sign him. i remember reading that like hill, he was ready to sign if the sox pony up a little more money. hill on the other hand was given a real great offer, but boras refuse. yet he sign for less with the sCrubs a yr later when he was redrafted. Almost never will a player make more money by holding out and re-entering. Its really stupid advice to give a player. Only way thats different is if your a latter round pick, have another year of college or if your a mid to latter round pick and are in highschool and can go to college and increase your stock.
  21. Ya, but we have a crack team of admins here to crush all trolls.
  22. Out of all those names in the bottom, only Bobby Hill was hyped.
  23. They won't go after Lowell because the Fish are asking for Guzman, Cruz, and another top pitching prospect or one of their young relievers at the major league level.
  24. I wouldn't do it if I were the Cubs. Stud pitching beats Stud hitting. I do think thats as fair as it would get though. I don't think there could be any straight up trade that would be closer. I happened to be thinking yesterday of what the Cubs would think of with this package. Jose Valentin and Bartolo Colon to the Cubs (Or Mark Buehrle) and the Sox get Carlos Zambrono and Juan Cruz or that Guzman kid in return. I was also thinking that since the Cubs have fallen out of favor with Bobby Hill that he could be had for Jose Valentin and a reliever. Although this would be a very tough sell. I wouldn't want Bobby Hill and Scott Borass on the southside. We already had the disaster of drafting that no talent ass clown. No thank you. Well, I want to find a way to get Carlos Zambrono. I'd love having him on our pitching staff. He's a younger, cheaper Bartolo Colon in a sense. He has an amazing arm and is a workhorse. Plus throw in Cruz and you get two dynamite arms. I think if the Sox gave the Cubs a hitter or two and Colon they could lure some damn good players. This might put me on and Island by myself but all things considered (current contract situations etc..) but if the Cubs called and offered Carlos Zambrano for Bartolo Colon, I would do it in a heart beat. And if they wanted to add in Juan Cruz for Jose Valentin I would do it twice as quick. I'd do it. I'd do Carlos for Bartolo straight up simply because I believe he is a cheaper, younger version of Bartolo and I actually think he has better stuff. I do think Jose will fetch the Sox something decent, if they package him right. Cubs could have some interest in Wunsch. I know their pen has been solid, but a damn good lefty (Meaning they could dump Guthrie and have Remlinger and Wunsch) would really make them good.
  25. I saw Guzman pitch in spring training against the sox and boy did he have dynamite stuff. Not only did he have the stuff, but he really seemed to have a good feel for the game and good control of his pitches. He pitched awesome against the Sox that day and flashed a good mixture of pitches, but what really stood out in my mind was a big breaking curveball. I think Zambrono could be had, maybe if somehow you get Lee involved (Not sure if they'd consider playing him at 3rd though), but to me if you deal Colon you could get Carlos for him. Cubs would reup with Colon, let Matt Clement walk and fill someone else in. It would be risky, but a top 3 in the playoffs of Prior, Wood and Colon would be whicked.
