Williams leaving Kansas for UNC
For some reason I just didn't see him going. So is Cream leaving Marquette now?

Borchard
Borchard will be just fine. He made a lot of adjustments to this spring this past winter, ala Joe Crede last year. Now the he's going to work on those adjustments for a while in Charlotte and then come up and join the big club. Once this guy is ready he won't dissapoint. He also has a very good eye so he'll draw plenty of walks, he'll also strike out plenty of times. To be honest, I think he is kind of like a Jim Edmonds with more power.

how have some of our youngsters doin
Scott Morgan is a first baseman/outfielder. He got a lot of action with the Sox during spring training. This guy is absolutely huge. He has got to be 6-7 or bigger and Mario will vouch for me on that. When we first saw him we were like who the hell is that guy. The size and strength is there, the question is can he develop the swing, etc. Maybe he will.

Carlos Lee and Maggs
Well if they start letting some closers in then Trevor Hoffman, Troy Percival and Mariano Rivera have a shot.

Daylan Holt sent to Winston Salem
The White Sox sent outfield prospect Daylan Holt, who had been with the Birmingham Barons to Class High Winston Salem. Holt was acquired by the White Sox along with Neil Cotts and Billy Koch from Oakland. Darrin Ingram will replace Holt in Birmingham. Ingram played for the Baron's last season. He was the Baron's team leader in homers, with 17.

You have got to be kidding me. The fact of the matter is that D'Angelo is better than Aaron. DJ has been lights out since joining the Sox. Miles would stink up the joint anyway. I give Aaron props but he has to improve in some places. Real quick, I think Doublem was being very sarcastic in the post. Not sure if he posted it in Green, but thats typically the color most chose to post their sarcastic comments. As long as I'm remembering right, Doublem pretty much tended to believe Miles has to prove himself at AAA first and then in the majors, as he thought Miles was more of a one year wonder.

Honel wins again
I don't really think we'll see him next year, but the year after and he should be pretty good. I really am glad the Sox are finally going to be able to stop rushing pitchers. Giving them an extra year compared to a year less or so is a much better option, imo. Rauch is getting his time in and I have no worries once he's up for good he will be ready. No reason to let a guy pitch in the majors if he's not ready, unless you have a club where you can work him in and let him take the beating for a few years. Otherwise let him work his issues in the minors, bring him into the pen and then move him into the rotation if you have the luxury of having a solid rotation and bullpen as it is. Damn I hope we keep our aces around.

Rios winning the CF job?
I agree with you JoshPR. I'm very very happy with this decision as Manuel is going to keep trotting the hot guy out there, which is the right thing to to do, imo. Rios is swinging a much better bat then Rowand and a little time off won't hurt Aaron. I hope that Manuel and the staff is working with him since he tends to have little self confidence at times or thats what I always worry. Aaron is going to be just fine and he'll be in the majors a long time, hopefully he can make it as a starter, but there is no doubt he'll be a 4th outfielder if he can't do that. I like Rios quite a bit, its one of the reasons I was so happy about the Colon trade, well minus the fact we got a 20 game winner for nothing exept the Rockmeister, who I liked. Rios replaced the "Whiny One" Jeff Liefer and is just a better hitter then Lief. Lief may have better power potential, but I didn't see any of that power last year. Rios and Rowand are similiar players, one from the left side the other from the right side which is why I think they compliment eachother so damn well.

He "should" be on the ML team, yet he can't find any PT at the AAA level? There's something wrong with that if you ask me. The bottom line is that it's 18 AB's and 0 walks. Even if you only have 1 AB every 10 days, you ought to be able to work at least 1 walk in 18 attempts. I think the person who should be given the benefit of the doubt is the guy who we're going to depend on to get on base for guys like Frank, Magglio, Paul, and Carlos -- D'Angelo Jimenez. He's done a solid job for the Sox since we started playing him at 2B, and yet people still think he's not worthy of being here. What kind of logic is that? I never said Jiminez didn't belong. I only said Miles would be in Chicago. Made no mention of the starting lineup. And yes, something has to be wrong. He has not played 3 days in a row, so I wonder if he is hurt. He is not playing all that much because Harris is still KW's boy. With Harris, Hummel, Nunez and Miles, you are truly looking at 4 starters for 3 positions, so the AB's have to get spread around. I still think you are nuts if you are worried about a guys walk rate after 4 games. If he plays tomorrow and walks three times in 4 plate appearances, all of a sudden he has 3 walks in 19 AB's. You gonna sing a different tune then? That's why averages don't mean s*** until they have played at least 20 or 30 games. Weird thing is I expected to see Miles get plenty of time with Harris working a lot in center as well, but so far Aaron hasn't played much at all consistently. You'd think with the impression he made they would find a way for all of them to get at bats. I'm gonna go easy on the stats and wait a little longer in the minor league season before I make any assumptions though. Miles's biggest need is to improve his OBP by drawing more and more walks if he is going to make it with a big club, imo. If your trying to be a leadoff hitter, I really do recommend you watch Jimenez when it comes to how many pitches he sees and how great his eye is. One of my favorite parts of Jimenez is just how he sprays the ball all over the place and almost never swings at a bad pitch, unless he's protecting himself which in that case he typically just shoots them foul until he gets a pitch he can handle. Man, if only Jimenez was quicker, like he used to be. Oh well, he's gonna have a great career as a leadoff hitter although he could eventually move to the two hole if the Sox got another high obp guy with speed.

Sweet, I sure hope Honel can stay healthy and keep developing.

Commentary: Surviving Spring
That was one of the funnest times I can remember watching the Sox. They absolutely destroyed Cleveland and New York and all of a sudden all the respect started to come. Damn was that a fun year and I really think this year is going to be funner.

Read it and weap, Cub fans!!!
I watched probably 120 games in 2000 and saw every game they played in Anaheim that year. I know Frank was great, but I thought in the earlier years he was even better, thats no knock on the Frank of 2000, he was the MVP that year, but the 2000 team he had a lot more protection. Now I do see a lot of resemblance this season to 2000 in Frank, in terms of walks and he seems to be seeing the ball more, but Frank was real agressive that season and if I recall had an open stance then (It was his first year) while right now his stance has been pretty closed.

Carlos Lee and Maggs
As a prospect Carlos was almost always rated higher, but that was only because Maggs wasn't considered much of a prospect. Once Maggs made it to the majors he hit and never stopped hitting and quickly people talked about him. Carlos kind of lingered in the system and then he finally came up. Many thought he may not ever make it up with the Sox because he wasn't good enough defensively in 3rd and didn't know if he'd fit in in left. He fit in and started off damn good as well, always showing great bat speed.

I don't doubt him, its just 1 great season out of the previous 5 isn't something to really be impressed with. Now the potential is all there, but I am sick of waiting and want to see it. Last season he was lost at the plate, but he had a defense and I stuck up for him. This season he's got plenty of time to prove me wrong, but I'm going to hold off until I see him like the Frank of old. Right now he's popping up a lot of stuff. I still think in 2000 he was nowhere as good as he was in his earlier seasons. The early to mid 90's Frank was what it was all about, imo. I know his 2000 numbers were amazing and you could argue it was his best season, but I believe he was better before that.

Sox Defense
The only way Olivo doesn't win gold gloves is if he can't hit well enough to stay in the majors, otherwise he is destined to be the next shutdown catcher in the AL, now that Rodriguez is gone. Bengie Molina is susceptible because he doesn't block the plate properly. Molina does way too many glove stabs instead of positioning his body in front of the ball in order to keep it in front of you. Alomar made that mistake in todays game on the wild pitched (or did they rule it a passed ball?). A Ball should almost never get passed the catcher if they are always moving in front of the ball and positioning themselves so it bounces infront of them. Now ocassionally a pitchers throws such a pitch that you can't get in front of it, or it can take some odd hops. Of course all catchers make mistakes. Olivo has a cannon though.

Well I do think Sosa carried his team in 98. That being said I have no doubt that the two of them in their prime, I take Frank, he was an absolute monster in a pitchers park. I just need to see Frank show me once and far all that he's still that player. I haven't seen it in a few seasons and no matter how much I want to believe he's back, I'm taking the wait and see approach and until he proves it, I'm gonna think that he's on the downside of his career, even though I think we can see big things out of him.

Sox Defense
If you look, I think the majority of his errors will be throwing and it will be so throughout his career, because his arm seems irradict. Crede is very talented defensively and is a future gold glover, but the one thing that always worries me is how erradict his throwing mechanics are.

Well, the stats may go one way, but right now if I had the choice between Sammy Sosa DH'ing for the Sox or Frank Thomas DH'ing I would hands down pick Sammy Sosa. Nothing against Frank, in his prime he was amazing, but Sosa is still in his prime while Frank hasn't been anything special other then 2000 the past few years. Now I hope he gets back on pace, but if it were a choice between those two, I'd love having Sosa in this lineup instead of Frank. I also think that Sosa would be just fine in the clubhouse and his hustle would be a big addition to this club.

Carlos Lee and Maggs
I don't have a problem with Aaron so far this season. I think we need to give him a full season before making a judgement on his future with the Sox. Until then, the jury is out IMO. I agree we need to give Aaron time, but right now he looks lost at the plate. Of course everyone gets lost at one point or another during the season so I'm not worried. I do think that Rios is going to get a lot more time. What exactly happens all depends on where this team is at the end of April to middle of May.

Carlos Lee and Maggs
Also, if you're looking for a small ball player, Borchard is not the man for the job. Ya, but I'm assuming that we will also be adding a new centerfielder and he could play that role. As far as who goes, the worse player is who should go. If Frank isn't producing then I don't want him here, his attitude doesn't benefit this team and his contract would have him making more money. Now if he's playing good, then bring him back.

Carlos Lee and Maggs
Ya, I just am under the belief that either him or Frank will be gone and I don't have one problem losing them, all I ask is that we bring in a small ball type player to replace whoever we lose. I know Borchard will be one of the ones that replaces, but I also have no idea what happens with Rowand.
