  1. Ferentz reportedly has an in-home visit with Seantrel Henderson today.
  2. The Bills made a vast mistake on that one. Gailey is a good OC, but he's proven he isn't a good head coach.
  3. They better win on Wed cause I'm going to the game.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) I like Dye well enough, but I wouldn't be entirely upset if he landed on the north side, just for that reason. Dye is still a very good hitter and would be productive and a bargain. I'd like the Sox to talk about bringing him in as a DH and part time left fielder. You could get him for cheap too.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) fixed for y'all OR California.
  6. I wonder if they find out that he had a heart defect.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Then why does everyone turn it down? ND has had to bring in their 4th or 5th choice both of the last two times the spot opened up. Was that really the case this past year? I don't think so. There is a lot of pressure associated with the job and that some guys just aren't ready. Two times ago Meyer was the main guy and he wasn't ready for ND. Weis was considered a hot commodity and a real good hire at the time they got him. This time around they really didn't miss on any big name guys before ultimately landing Kelly who was the up and coming coach in college football. I don't see how we missed big-time. Sure they through feelers out to a lot of people but I didn't see many guys turning down the job with the exception of real big name guys that are already heavily rooted in there areas (ie, Stoops/Ferentz).
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) There's too much drama though, for them to be "elite" for coaches. Recent polls when the job was available would not agree with you. I heard Cowherd talking about a coaches poll and it was still regarded by head coaches as the top job in college football.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Tennessee is a great college football job. Florida Texas USC Ohio St Alabama LSU Oklahoma Tennessee Michigan Florida St Miami Penn State In no direct order, are all prime football jobs. ND needs to be on that list.
  10. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Derek Dooley. After all the big names thrown out there, I'm disappointed. But whatever, it was a really bad time to be looking for a new coach. At least we know he can recruit (LSU Recruiting Coordinator under Saban) and is from the South. He's been called "Nick Saban Jr." Hopefully that's in regards to the coach, not the personality. Apparently Smith was again not interested.
  11. Tice is a great hire as our oline coach. Real proven track-record in that department and a significant upgrade over Harry.
  12. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) FWIW The Giants D was ranked 13th in the NFL and the Bears D was ranked 17th. Regardless, I'd take the talent on the Giants D over the talent on the Bears D right now (although it is pretty puzzling that they were as bad as they were last year). Look at how the Giants D finished though. Injuries were definitely a factor but Coughlin is on the hot-seat in New York too.
  13. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) I think you greatly overvalue the "great wideouts" we have, in fact I'd say we still have one of (if not) the worst WR core in the entire league. I see most candidates viewing position as a dead-end hire because most rational people know that Lovie and his entire staff will likely be fired at the end of the year. You cannot count on a new HC coming in and keeping you, it doesn't seem to happen very often. A good offensive mind will see the 8TD's Cutler threw. Not many OC's can get a job where you have a potential franchise QB to call the shots for. That makes the job enticing, regardless of the HC situation.
  14. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) Do you blame him? I'd take better talent on D and more job security any day if I was an up and coming D-Coordinator. The Giants defense was worse than the Bears though and if push came to shove it certainly sounded like he favored the Bears.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) Cheap f***ing Bears. Disgrace. I knew when the Giants were involved we wouldn't offer enough money to get him. Do you have a link to this Steve? I'm looking and don't see anything official.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 08:51 AM) Looks like Fuel is headed to the Giants. Cheap f***ing Bears. Disgrace. I knew when the Giants were involved we wouldn't offer enough money to get him.
  17. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 07:30 AM) He was good with vikes before he started scalping his super bowl tickets. Everyone is saying that the OC job is a deadend job as everyone will be gone next year but a good OC could replace Lovie as you know the bears will look for any reason to go cheap with their next hire so it will be a guy that will nto have a staff. It is not a dead-end job when you have Jay Cutler and the young wide-outs the Bears have. If I were a young up and comer this job would be a pretty good one to show-case my skills and potentially move up to a head coaching gig (whether in Chicago replacing Lovie or somewhere else). Plus, an OC in CHicago will get pretty much free reign to run there side of the ball which is exactly what a real good offensive mind would want. I actually think, outside of the clear risk with Lovie only being there for a year, that the Bears OC position is a real good job. And I should point out if the OC does good and is young and the Bears go hire a Cowher after the season, well, Cowher might darn well keep the OC (if he's good) because Cowher's focal point and likely whomever the Bears hire as an HC will be the defense.
  18. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) Mike Tice? I'd be alright with that as our O-line coach. Not sure about as the OC. Honestly, I really don't know much of his history other than as the Vikings coach. I never even thought about him as a candidate. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,6522823.story Tice is tough, charasmatic and would be a tremendous hire who has experience calling plays. I'd love him as our OC or Oline/TE coach. Definitely on board with Tice.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 08:15 PM) Apparently they did contact him last year, very quietly, and he turned them down. It might be different now. They would pay him close to enough to leave. When/If Lovie leaves the Bears he will get another head coaching job.
  20. Zampese interviewing with the Bears for 2nd straight day. Sounds like he's meeting Cutler today.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 06:19 AM) From 2007-2009, Jermaine Dye has put up a .801 OPS against righties and a .913 OPS against lefties. His OPS against LHP was at least 50 points higher than against RHP every one of those single seasons. You can say good hitters are good hitters, and Jermaine Dye is a good hitter. However, he's an average to even below average hitter against RHP (esp. if he's less than 100%) and an above average hitter against LHP. The numbers don't lie. JD just doesn't fit in this lineup right now as constructed. Since when is an .801 OPS below average? You are also factoring in his 2009 season, which was terrible and he's still got an .801 OPS vs righties.
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Too funny. He f***ed over Tennessee, I'm incredibly not shocked. This is just classic. Monte and Orgeron going with. Tennessee's great staff is now USC's great staff. The Trojans made the best hire, that is if their program doesn't get destroyed. Great hire by USC. Looking forward to see Evan's comments
  23. Does anyone want to explain to me why the Bulls would deal Joakim Noah for Tracy McGrady. What sense is there in that? Bulls are going to get cap relief regardless so why deal someone like Noah. I could see if we are moving a Deng or Hinrich and including Noah as a way to put the Bulls in a position where they can offer two max contracts this off-season, but the rumored trade which would include Noah would not do that.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) Isnt Butch Davis at UNC? Why would he leave for a job that has pending sanctions? Until the NCAA investigation is over, the USC job is only so-so. Come on....USC >>> UNC when it comes to college football. I agree the sanctions are an issue but Butch Davis would be a great hire and I think he'd take the right job (ie, a power-house Football program).
