I'd rather have Pierre than give Crisp that much money. Crisp at 4-5M given the injuries he's suffered and the down season he is coming off of seems like an awful lot. I didn't expect him to get more than 2M in guaranteed money.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) Angelo is the far bigger problem. As long as he is around I'm not sure it matters who is coach. I don't really think so. Jerry has done a lot of good. He's done some bad, but he's also done a lot of good. I am fine with him getting another coach.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) No question 2000 was enjoyable... I'm unsure if 2008 bested them for me in terms of 2nd favorite. 2008 was fun too because of Quentin and Danks and Floyd and Ramirez. It was another year where the club had a lot of solid young players, but man, I remember thinking in 2000 that we were going to win multiple world series. It really was the first time I realized just how hard it is for a club to win a world series. Those teams were dominate and never made it back to the playoffs until the team dynamic changed in 2005. Hell, remember the year we had Loaiza put up Cy young numbers and Colon/Buehrle in the rotation. Geeze those early 2000 teams underperformed like no tomorrow under Jerry Manuel. So much freaking talent.

Your 2000 Chicago White Sox I don't know about you guys, but for me, that was my 2nd favorite team of the decade. A young, up and coming team that just burst on the scene and flat out won a ton of games. The playoffs were a disappointment but with the farm system BA was hyping I thought we were on the verge of a dynasty.

So is he not in pitching shape Cubano or has his velocity dropped since the Cuban leagues?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) So what are going to going to do with the rest of his childhood? The first thing I'll teach him is what my dad taught me...how to bean the opposition to keep em honest, haha. In little league whenever I hit a kid, I'd look over to him and after the game I'd say he was leaning over, etc. I think it brought tears to my old mans eyes. Especially the one and only time I ever threw a no-no, where I ruined the perfect game by drilling someone, bahahaa. Ahh, the days where I was great at a sport. Now I'm glad to be mediocre on my softball club.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 07:20 AM) This question is really all opinion. I wouldnt mind 3, but thats because my first is a stepdaughter and I would like to have two children with my wife. If we end up sticking with just 2, I wont be crushed. I think 3 is my max. 2 is a good number but I would like to have a boy, so if the first two pop up as girls I've told my wife we are going for a 3rd. After that, I'm getting snipped. The fiance would like three though. I really think you are biased to agree with what you grew up with. I like two because I'm one of two and she likes three because she is one of three. I just want em healthy and to have one boy that I can pass all my sports knowledge too. She knows if we get three girls, at least one is going to turn into a total tomboy.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) HAHA. I sold my 2000 LCD projection after I bought my plasma, if I didnt live in a condo, I would have the same set up. Those DLP's are damn nice TV's. I have a 50 inch which is now in the bedroom at my new place. Such a pleasure to move. I remember the days of the CRT's, just moving like a 32 inch TV could take 3 people depending on the size. I got mine in 2001 or so, I know I'll need to replace the bulb sooner or later but the picture is f***ing phenomenal and for the bedroom sake I need a stand for the PS3, etc, so I don't care if it isn't mounted. Hell, if they still made DLP's, I would have probably bought another, the picture is just awesome.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 05:50 AM) Heh, this is the same exact thing I did. I have a 43" DLP (generation1) upstairs -- I bought this in like 2000. I have a 32" LCD in the bedroom. ...and a 50" Plasma in the basement -- this is my movie watching/sports television. I was skeptical of Plasma because of all the myths you hear about burnin, and while that was once a concern, it's really a thing of the past. My Plasma have a few different things it does to make sure it doesn't happen like pixel shifting, etc. Plasma Burn in happens during the first 50-100 hours, but they also have new programs on the plasma tv's to counter-act the burn in once it happens and after about a month or so its a thing of the past. The new plasmas are also much more energy efficient, albeit still not quite as good as the LCD's. After doing the research, I ended up buying a 58Inch Samsung 1080P Plasma. I got it about 3 weeks ago for the place I'm moving too and will be mounting it up tomorrow. I can't comment on it yet, but based upon the reviews I saw online the big thing that did it for me with Plasma is that it is a better TV to watch sports in than an LCD and for movies it has darker blacks, which is nice, imo. That said, get the specs you want and go with Samsung (Plasma, LCD, or LED)/Sony (LCD)/Panasonic (Plasma) if you can afford to spend a bit more and you won't go wrong. Vizio makes a damn fine TV as well, especially for the money, but I always think when push comes to shove you can find specials from the big-boys and there picture quality is just a bit better, albeit I highly doubt 99% of the people would notice it, so again, it rages the debate of whether it is worth it. I also recommend buying online. Find a place with free shipping and no sales tax and it pays off big time. And if you are going to mount it, look online for the mounts, much cheaper than buying from Best Buys of the world.

Blalock isn't going to get much money. It has been a long time since he had a productive season.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) from a mattress website according to this site showing the interior height and width, the Chisoxfn is right, the boxspring isnt going to fit http://www.rollxvans.com/minivandimensions.aspx get yourself some straps and put it on the roof or get a buddy with a flatbed truck I just moved to a new place yesterday so this was fresh in my mind, haha. But I know from helping friends that the biggest bed you can fit in most SUV's/Vans with a boxspring is a Full.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) And you knew him then? I didnt hear ANYONE sound emotional about him so far. The owner and coach of his own team couldnt even bring up any stories at all of how the guy was good other than some stories about ridiculous catches. They said more negative stuff about him than positive IMO. When you havea bunch of people having a hard time talking about your actual contribution to society its usually not a good sign. On top of that, the guy died trying to chase, break into the car of, and possibly injure the mother of his children. Its a bad thing that he died, but shedding a tear is a little much for that guy. I'm not about to call Henry a saint, but I'm not about to say good riddance, see ya asshole. He might have been this or that but I don't f***ing know so I'm not going to make an ignorant comment on the situation. No that you did Rock, I pretty much agree 100% with your post.

I got a feeling that when the dust settles, we'll see Milton Bradley DH'ing.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) Why would he want to come here as opposed to the Angels, who have won their division and made the playoffs for the last 5 years? Especially after seeing the success his former teammate Bobby Abreu had with the Angels? Is this inside info, Jason? Chicago is a large Japanese market that has had a few Japanese players who have came and said nothing but good things about the place. They are the 3rd largest market in the world as well. And the Sox have a tremendous pitching staff. The Angels have lost Lackey, Texeira, K-Rod, and Figgins in two years time and have had a horrendous off-season to date. Yes they play in a poor division, but I'd be hard pressed to see many experts that wouldn't say the Sox have as good of a shot as the Angels this year.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) And no one in eastern or central Iowa will be able to watch Iowa or Iowa State's bowl games without a dish (or rabbit ears for Hawk fans). ISU game is on NFL Network, but there's now a disagreement between the owners of the Fox stations and Mediacom, the cable company that dominates Iowa. Both sides are really pessimistic that Mediacom will be showing Fox programming after the New Year. How the hell could a cable company have a dispute and not show channel Fox. It is an over the air channel for pete sake that anyone and there brother could get for free with a set of rabbit ears? -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) we certainly have a runaway winner here. I think asshole post of the decade and century got locked up too.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) Does anybody happen to know of a queen size mattress/boxspring will fit in a minivan? Probably not. In fact, I'm almost sure it won't. You can fit the matress in by bending it, but the box spring won't fit.

I personally have: Pierre Beckham Quentin Konerko Teahen Ramirez AJP Rios Kotsay/Jones/Vizquel And no, I certainly hope that isn't our opening day lineup, but based upon what the club currently has on the roster, that is what mine would be. Only debate in my eyes would be flipping Rios and Ramirez.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) I was thinking about this yesterday, and I realized one thing. No way Matsui signs here for $6.5 million when the Angels are making the same offer. My guess is he would have required something closer to $8 million in order to pass the Angels and sign with us. So it's not really $6.5 million we're talking here. It's more. The White Sox were one of very few teams Hideki looked at. And we don't even know if the Sox actually make an offer for Matsui. Clearly there was interest in both sides and Matsui had an interest in playing in Chicago. I think if the two clubs made similar offers, Matsui would be a White Sox and not an Angel.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) I heard the same as Ace....I thought he handled his predicament in LA very professionally...did you hear differently? As for the point Melissa is making, all it matters is if the guy gets on base. Whether it's because he walks, or hits, or gets drilled, or gets on base because of an error, it doesn't matter. Pierre doesn't walk much, but he's a lifetime .300 hitter. So we can disparage his walk rate as much as we want, but it doesn't quite paint the entire picture. I'm confused, weren't they talking about Luis Castillo. I've never heard a bad thing about Pierre. He's known as a good clubhouse guy and a consumate pro.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) I think what original poster is trying to point out is that we are most likely are going to have a 7 men bullpen. With that said, assuming the backup catcher is Flowers/FA, as of right now there is no space for a DH, if they send Nix to AAA, and sign a DH there is no one to backup the IF other than Vizquel. Hopefully I'm making sense here. EDIT: If we are going with 6 man bullpen than, we can still sign a DH and Nix stays on the roster as the second IF backup. Ozzie likes carrying 7 relievers. Now they may ultimately not go that route, especially since the club has a strong rotation, on paper, but another option would be for the club to release one of its outfielders at the start of training camp. The most likely candidate for that would be Andruw Jones. I think Jones has a lot of pressure to show up and play.

QUOTE (monomach @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) "Kerry Wood and Mark Prior should be fine this year, we're going to win the world series!" They had injury concerns, the guys I'm mentioning don't really have them. Linebrink has been very healthy over his career as has Pena. Jenks has been pretty healthy in a Sox uni.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Forgot to mention earlier that according to Terry Boers' "guy" with the Sox, the Sox want nothing to do with Thome being back in 2010. He's way down on their list.
