  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) Besides Van Gundy and Collins (who'll probably stay in the broadcast booth I'd say), what coaches are out there that you could throw a lot of money at? Besides Byron Scott (who a lot of people don't like), the guy who comes to mind for me ATM is Nate McMillan, as there's been rumors of discontent in Portland, and McMillan would be an ideal candidate to target. Avery Johnson
  2. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I don't get it, Cowley gets bashed around here for "not doing his job", but he does "his job" and gets bashed for doing that. You can't have it both ways. Cowley did a great job covering the Winter Meetings and he gets paid to uncover stuff about the Sox. HE did exactly that. Well done Joe!!
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) Was Putz hurt last year? Underwent season ending surgery to remove bone-chips from his elbow.
  4. A career .389 OBP in the minors isn't bad. .414 in AAA in 2008 before getting called up to the Yanks. He won't hit for power, but tons of speed and based upon the stats a pretty advanced eye.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) I like Gardner, but if you get him to play CF, you better find someone with good power to be our DH. Think of it this way, Gardner in CF, means the Sox spent very little to cover the CF spot, which means they have more money to go after a quality DH. I think the Sox will be working hard to get Jerry to expand the bank a bit so they can ink Matsui and than work on bringing over Japanese advertisers. Matsui is 100 times the icon that Shingo/Iguchi were in Japan and there should be a lot of money to be made having him on our club for a year or two or three.
  6. White Sox Reportedly Ask Yankees About Gardner
  7. It is an outside of the box kind of idea and you got to like the idea of a cheap outfielder, who is a great base-runner, had a decent OBP in his 2nd season in the bigs, and would provide the club with pretty damn good defense. I wonder what it would cost cause clearly the Yanks don't have a need at any particular areas. Would it be Brett Morel or a group of lesser prospects? Would you trade Morel for Gardner.
  8. Interesting. The Yankees clearly don't have a need for Gardner but I'm wondering what the Sox plans would be for him. He's tremendously fast and a solid defensive outfielder who would be cheap and under the teams control for a few years. I don't know if he could start or how he'd do given serious at-bats but for the right price it could be an intriguing depth option. I'd be curious what the Sox scouts saw in him, if they thought he is the type of guy that is a true sleeper and will get better of if they look at him more as a quality bench player. Ozzie has to love the 26 steals vs 5 stolen bases in limited action last year.
  9. Ozz, I own the site and I can't stand the compressed threads but most everyone has voiced that it is what the majority has preferred. If people come out and say they prefer it the other way, I'd be find going that direction too. We do whatever you guys/gals ask for, withing reason of course.
  10. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) a big surprise in center, i dont follow the minors as much as id like to but ive never heard of the guy out there and would have expected mitchell there....whats the word on this nick guy. edit just now seeing it was based on last years performance. This team was purely based upon performance, not tools. If it was based upon tools you'd have seen a big debate between Danks and Mitchell as they are by far and away the teams two best outfield prospects. Trayce Thompson would be a close third and a wild card would be Dayan Viciedo if the club moved him to third. He would fall within the #1 through #3 range depending on the person you asked.
  11. I'm fine with this. Now pay top dollar and land some top notch assistants and recruiters.
  12. Here's an interesting article talking about how the Bulls should scratch 2010 plans and focus on 2011: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bu...at-530am-a.html
  13. Iowa might be one of the worse major conference teams ever. My goodness do they stink.
  14. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) The $$$ makes a Quentin for Crawford swap pretty difficult. Now, if the Sox add in Jenks, and the Rays add in some young cheap talent, it might start to make some more sense. The acquisition of Rafael Soriano pretty much eliminates the shot of the Jenks heading to Tampa.
  15. Pedro Feliz has reportedly agreed to a 1yr deal worth 4 million to play 3rd for the Houston Astros. Damn has Houston been busy.
  16. Braves didn't have the money to keep Soriano.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) And Brett Wallace and Buster Posey. If anything, the one disappointment seems to be Tim Beckham, but he's only like what, 19? I still say we got the better Shortstop Beckham from Georgia though . Kyle Skipworth has been the biggest bust though, so far. And I really wanted him, LOLZ.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Really? You think the Bulls will throw a lot of money at a coach? They spent nothing on VDN and gave him a short contract. That alone showed you just how much faith they had in the guy. They took a chance when all other options flamed out (Collins/D'Antoni). Yes, they'll spend the money.
  19. Rosenthal: Royals, Giants, Tigers, Cubs, and Sox Interested in Pods By Jason Gage SoxNet Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, and Chicago Cubs are all contending with the White Sox for the services of free agent Scott Podsednik. Rosenthal is probably accurate about the other teams, but the Sox interest in Podsednik has waned over recent weeks, so much so, that Williams has told the media on multiple occasions that the Sox have "moved-on". The club has tried...Rest of the Story
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) Ken Davidoffs twitter saying he thinks the Yankees are eventually going to re-sign Matsui Interesting. Olney reported today that the Yankees entered contract negotiations with Damon. They can't fit both could they?
  21. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) Besides TCQ, I can't really think of any Sox moves at the winter meetings in the past few years. There are a few articles out there about how the winter meetings are pretty obsolete for MLB. It's mostly for MiLB. The explosion of communication tech replaced most of what goes on. Didn't Kenny stay at the Winter Meetings late one year and get a deal done? Was it the Colon deal?
  22. VDN was a cheap hire and sounded much more like a pure stop-gap. They missed out on D'Antoni and I'm sure both sides regret what happened. No way Mike is happy in New York and The Bulls aren't happy with VDN. I think the Bulls throw a lot at Van Gundy/Doug Collins and see if one comes.
