Draft Profile - SP Kyle Heckathorn, Kennesaw St.
Chisoxfn replied to BearSox's topic in FutureSox Board
Like his teammate, good arm, two good pitches and one developing pitch (Jenkins has 3 good pitches). Great build though and a really nice arm. Injuries and command are a concern though. But given his upside and the fact that we have multiple early picks, I have zero problem taking him at 23. I do think he might project better eventually in the pen though, but that could be what makes him not a complete boon/bust type of pick. -
Draft Profile - SP Chad Jenkins, Kennesaw St.

I like Jenkins. He's got a live arm and three good pitches. Would have zero problem with him at 23. -
How did Nate McLouth end up in Atlanta and not here?

Poreda is better than anything offered, so is danks. So no, that statement isn't true felix. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 08:21 AM) Their #4 and #7 prospect with Charlie Morton as an add-in is a nothing package? Huh... #4 and #7 prospect plus a guy like Morton, who I'd probably put in a similar mold of Broadway/Marquez/Egbert isn't that big of a haul for one of the better offensive Cfers in the game. One whose in his prime and signed to an affordable deal. I do agree with whomever posted it that the Sox are holding onto Poreda as bait to get a front line starter, not a position player. I figure they'll draft an outfielder early and than focus on more pitching as the club seems to have quite a few middle of the order impact bats in the system.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) After the top 4 in the order you really can start playing around with it, if you do it the way I'm thinking and we don't have a major bust. Flowers and Allen can both fit in there, Allen may well wind up hitting 5th long-term just because we want to get a LH batter in there to break up the righties. That'd slot Flowers/Viciedo/Fields down to 5 or 6. Lets just take Fields out of that equation currently, but if all goes well you'd have to peg in Allen/Flowers/Viciedo or something along those lines, cause your right, we would need to get a lefty in there. Again, all iffs, but you at least have to think there is some serious offensive potential there.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) So if the Sox win today and the Tigers lose today (down 3 to Bawston now) the Sox are merely 2.5 games out of first. God Bless the AL Central. And its going to happen. Here's to being 2.5 back after today!!!! Now go get it done Sox!!! -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) Kinda like the Legend of Wilson Betemit? Much more like the legend of whomever was the worse defensive player to ever play the game...times a bagillion. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) Long term...let's say Beckham winds up a .300+, 25 HR ish type guy. In that case, an ideal top of the order in my eyes is: D2: the mighty Danks, Alexei, Beckham, Quentin. Q's power puts him as an ideal cleanup hitter, D2: the mighty Danks looks like our best shot at a legit leadoff hitter in some time, Alexei is a wonderful #2 hitter on paper (good speed, makes contract with everything, very low k's), and #3 is typically where you want your best hitter, and that should be Beckham. Flowers would be a very prolific 5 hole hitter. He won't hit .300, but he might very well be a .275 hitter all while playing a premium defensive spot (note, I didn't say premium defense) with massive power and a very high OBP. I'd say Flowers has a shot to be Thome light offensively (ie, from Cleveland days) from the catching position.

Draft Profile - 3B Bobby Borchering, HS Florida
Chisoxfn replied to BearSox's topic in FutureSox Board
I'll get a shot to see one of the top 3b prospects in the draft this Saturday. Louisville's 3rd baseman can flat rake. -
He fits what the Sox like and I think he's the perfect fit if they want to go outfielder. He's a prep though so it'll take time to develop him. I don't know if the Sox are okay with that or not, but if they are, he'd be a great get, imo. Solid value, above average tools, heady player. I like him a hell of a lot. Another name I really like, Kris Davis, CSUF. Guy is a f***ing masher. Massive power and he played little his first two years, really came into his own this year and has a lot more power potential. The guy f***ing rakes in BP and is a very good athlete. Could be a nice pickup in the top 12 rounds.
-
If he ends up being a nice sign I could totally see the Sox targeting him. If he thinks he's still going to get top round money, they'll pass. But if were going to reach in the 2nd round, I am cool with it cause i love his arm.
-
It is going to take a six figure bonus to sign him. I f***ing wish the Sox drafted like that, but they won't. Even when they signed Danks, you have to remember they went cheap on some other early picks last year. And I mean CHEAP.

So guys, in yesterdays softball game I ended up playing 2nd the last couple innings (odd feat given I'm a lefty). But I started two DP's and turned another (boy was that tough). So I've decided the Sox should call me up. My defensive play will be legendary. -

Time to split this 4 game set. Afterall the Slayer is in town!!! Love the game thread title!!! -
For those that watched him, how did he look. What was his velocity, etc?

Badass!!!!

I'd love to have Glavine come on in and replace Bartolo when he gets hurt. Plus I think Glavine could again be a valuable asset in the rotation. He won't come though and I'm sure he'll be back in New york.

Not at all impressed with the haul the Pirates got. Great move by the Braves and I do wonder quietly what the Sox were thinking? I'd have spun Poreda and he'd have been a better prospect than any of the one guys the Braves dealt. Morton isn't that impressive, IIRC, the Sox had a shot at him and opted for some other guys in the Javy trade.

Draft Profile - SP Ian Krol, Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville IL
Chisoxfn replied to BearSox's topic in FutureSox Board
I like his stuff and I like the idea of drafting him. HE's a kid, people change. If we judged Jenks on what people had said we wouldn't have our closer. Just put the people around him to help him succeed and for all we know he's changed recently. I do think he's the type of guy you do extensive background research on though, but most importantly, talk to the kid. -
If you get him out a year earlier and he gets a 15M contract than so be it. Thats why you go to school. The guy isn't a can't miss but as long as you get the guaranteed dough go for the green.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) Still stand by my statement that Jared Mitchell will be our first pick. I also see the Sox taking Storen, the reliever out of Stanford, with a 2nd round pick. Storen would be a good value pick in the 2nd round. He's got one hell of an arm.

If the Sox go pitching and Arnett is there thats probably who they will take (just my guess though).
