I certainly am not confident that they'll land a big fish. And because of this FO's abysmal record with FAs, I'm not confident that FAs they sign will perform.

He certainly was. 2nd to best Sox hitter last season, clearly on the improve. This "Bad framing" was suspicious; as per once he leaves Cooper and his pitchers it's suddenly decent. And even if he wasn't a high price at the time, this is yet another example of "who could have known." It's Hahn's job to know. I can't think of a single trade for a veteran that he's made that was an overall positive.

Good gracious the Sox don't need to trade the good prospects for "proven veterans." That approach has a 100% failure rate.

I'm more concerned about some volume in pitching over front-line starter. The Sox need 10 pitchers by my count, so some volume is necessary. they need to be good, but great can wait. The Sox have enough in their farm system beyond the untouchables for teams to like. They always do. Players that other teams can improve upon, that the Sox have mishandled, that the Sox may not value but other teams do, etc. are always there The problem is that these players don't have a lot of trade value because other teams see the hidden assets as their premium; so the Sox will have to pile on these type of prospects. The trick is for the Sox to find prospects in other orgs that have been mishandled, that have hidden virtue, etc. and not just go for the obvious at a premium price. Can they?

Castellano was supposedly "the best bat on the market", yet his numbers aren't much better than Abreu's.

Now they only need 4 more, maybe 5 (depending on how one views Marshall's dependability) and then another 2 for depth.

The Sox are 10 pitchers short. Hahn hits on maybe 25% (if that) of the free agent pitchers he signs. The only prospects close are injured, and there are only 2 of those. Position players are the least of the problems.

That's the way they've been for years. I'd add that their best home grown prospect in years, ahem, was an international signee. But they seem to like to abandon what works and repeat what fails.

Fulmer needs a new coach: someone who can make something of his great spin rates and speed up his tempo by a lot. No way should he need to paint the knees to get an out.

Nice game....until they ran out of pitchers and brought in the organizational minor leaguers, which is about 1/2 of the pitching staff. Sox are about 8-10 major league pitchers short.

Thanks. I didn't realize Stephens was on the 40 man. I had thought they left him off last December, people were worried he'd get picked in Rule 5, and he wasn't, so they glided him through.

He was having a poor year. And they released the other Jordan a couple of months ago, and he's pitching well for the Indians' AA team. I guess my question is why release these younger (relatively) guys, while keeping the certifiable Org Minor leaguers who are having equally poor years like Donn Roach around?

The 40 man contains one giant collection of organizational minor leaguers on the pitching side. It's appalling, really.

Good question. Probably. He's young and I'd like to let him simmer, but you have to give to get.

This one I kind of like. He has 4 years of control after this year. You’re not buying a career year; but he’s not really having a “down” year considering he’s only had 1 good year in his career and this is his 2nd to best and it isn’t bad. He is low K, but has good control. Similar Fly Ball % as Q, but is up this year, which is a concern. Looks like a lefty #4, which they could use. Some concern about Safeco v. GRF. Shouldn’t cost anyone in the top 10. If you want a top of the rotation guy, either grow your own or get aggressive on the FA market.

They want to trade him because relievers are "inconsistent." So, apparently, is analysis of relief pitchers from other teams. Anyway, the Pirate pulled this kind of thing last July and it was a disaster. Sox have some short term players to sell which could improve the team long-term. The position players are fine (or will be soon). Young pitching.

Sox 2 runs on 5 hits; Twins 1 run on 1 hit. It seems as though the comparative yields have been like this all season.

Buy low means paying the price of a reliever with a 1.45 WHIP. You think that's happening? Not a chance. I'm just being realistic - the White Sox don't buy low. And this isn't buyers season anyway...it's sellers season, which the Sox should be participating in. He's had one special year, a couple of good years, and then this year. In another thread there is post after post about dumping Bummer (who is on the improve) because relievers are inconsistent. Well.........? Take the time and gather young pitching with control.

Exactly what a rebuilding team should not be doing, particularly this time of year. Or the opposite of what this team should be doing.
