  1. The Sox could use a starting pitcher. Corbin stands tall - he's younger than the rest, less wear and tear, and his Ks are still there. And, accordingly, he's the one everyone wants. Keuchel is good, but his Ks fell and he's pitched a lot. May have some Shields in him. Happ is 35, but his Ks are still there. Charlie Morton is about like Happ, but I'd prefer Morton. And Paxton has 2 years left- it's ridiculous for the Sox to trade for a 2 year pitcher. Pretty much Corbin or bust for any long term deal; and then, to me, Morton, for a 2 year bridge pitcher if he can be signed reasonably.
  2. The Sox have no use for Santana; and trading 2 young pitching prospects with this thin staff? Nix.
  3. Because 3 years barely puts him in the window of contention.
  4. They couldn't. The team would be the Giants of 2018 or the Sox of 2015/2016. And it makes a lot of sense to acquire Machado/Harper without signing a bunch of 2nd/3rd tier FAs.
  5. Too bad. But tip of the cap to the Sox for trying to make that move.
  6. Bad in the sense that it put a financial strain on the org., then none really. Bad in the sense that the players didn't perform? 25-30.
  7. I just think that's silly stuff. It's like trading for 1 year of Machado so that he'll see how wonderful Ricky's clubhouse is and will sign for cheaper. Or they make silly move A to flip in move B. Just a bunch of contrivances. That stuff just never works out. And fortunately, it usually never gets off the ground.
  8. I agree...and if they do, that it sets back the rebuild and a tacit admission by the FO that the rebuild didn't work or at least they have no faith. I think .500 is about the best this FO is capable of; they are just over-matched in resources, skill, etc. IF JR is really going to spend for Machado and Harper (they'll need both) then that would compensate a good bit for other weaknesss.
  9. Don't see the point. Org is loaded with DH/1B types.
  10. Brantley's a good player when he plays. But not sure where the 62 win outfit is going with this.
  11. That's the kind of trade I like: major league player for major league player. They don't happen as often as before.
  12. if they Cubs can scheme a way to move Heyward and Darvish, they'll move in on Harper. Harper's my first choice for the Sox.
  13. But he hit homers in rookie ball. That was his first year in A ball. Gavin Sheets himself checked in with a mighty 6 dingers in high A, in 437 at bats.
  14. 2 of the Sox better prospects play CF , which is refreshing. Prefer the 3B idea for Moncada, although I'm not sure who's supposed to play 2nd.
  15. Obviously Walker, a 2nd round draft choice from last year, has far more value. I used the comparison to dispute the idea that Yurchak has zero value. Did Banuelos really have more value than Kevin Smith?
  16. .348 OBP in an OBP starved organization. .674 OPS. Raked in Rookie Ball. Out hit Steele Walker. How is Banuelos anything other than an org minor leaguer? His Ks are good, but the WHIP is not, and he's been in the minors for 9 years. He's stockpiling AAAA talent.
  17. it was fair to be concerned the second after they drafted him.
  18. Trade a prospect for an org minor leaguer?
  19. Narvaez can throw - that's one aspect of D.
  20. If he wants to manage, he would try to get a coaching job. I'll take Ricky over Ozzie right now.
  21. I basically agree unless a superstar falls into the Sox lap. Irrespective of Hahn, adding all of these 2nd-4th tier FAs would just stop the rebuild prematurely. They could have done that in 2016 without rebuilding.
  22. Gray is one of these guys who never seems to achieve his potential. I can't lay everything at the feet of Coors. If the Sox meticulously scout him and watch copious amounts of tape and see something that they are confident that they can fix, then he's intriguing. But it's just hard to have that confidence in this staff that they do and the fix 'em prescription anymore.
  23. I suppose Narvaez' framing is bad, but he's one of the few players on the 25, if not the org., that can take a walk. If his power ever comes (and it likely won't) he'd be a heck of a hitter. As it is, he's still one of the Sox best hitters. His D was positively rated by fangraphs; his framing may suck, but he can throw out runners. I don't see the reason to trade a guy like that for some marginal veteran. Even a guy like Leury - yes, he's a utility player. But he can play OF and IF - Sox don't have another one of those. And the list of crappy utility players Hahn and Williams have chased and paid serious money to over the last decade is long and ugly.
  24. The starting pitching would still be terrible. The bullpen thin. That's why signing these FAs doesn't excite me - these aren't contending teams that people are coming up with.
