Draft Day 2 Thread - Rounds 3-10 (Tracker in OP)
I ask for prep players, because they have the leverage. And I don't think the Sox have taken any college seniors who have no leverage and who they can ding for 10K and overspend on others.

Will they be able to sign him?

This is where I like drafting the goofy delivery guys. Straighten it out a little bit, or get it consistent, and you may get something good.

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
Need more power out of LF. CF, maybe. But put the guy in CF who leaves the Sox with the best 2B/SS/CF defensive triad, regardless of who is established.

That's what I said. Hansen high ceiling. They didn't go high floor in round 4; I presume he's high ceiling. FIU so they should be able to sign him.

It's a little strange that they go high floor so much considering what is probably their best pick under Hostetler, Hansen, was high ceiling, and low floor.

And there goes Spillane. I guess I need new lists.

True, but just they aren't in the 3 I look at; and per fangraphs, 3 top 70 college pitchers are available (and numerous top 100 college players). No need to reach. Adn I know that Maggs didn't say those guys for round 3 necessarily.

Most of Round 3 is picked inside the top 100

Those guys aren't top 100.

Why do you think Polo is ready for AAA?

Draft Day Poll: Who is your guy at #4?
Hopefully he develops sufficiently to be FT catcher. Sox can find/have DHs.

What's the gameplan for tomorrow? Arms?

Of all the people the Yankees could choose to represent, they pick...Swisher? This looks like a solid pick. Maybe just some "fatigue" as we have several prospects with similar profiles/backgrounds and they haven't really rocketed through the minors.

Any college guys who wouldn't be a reach on talent?

Is Schnell is there - isn't he the guy some theorized we could take at 4?

He looks like a good player. Keep assembling talent, and with proper development, the Sox will have a team. Actually the Sox should be good before he's ready for the majors. And Singer still hasn't been drafted. I don't know what him at 4 all about - didn't make sense.

Well, there it is. Get their choice. Which one do they prefer.

I'll take it. That's all star level; better than a mid-rotation starter.

Dylan Covey
Covey was rushed- by necessity. Only 30 innings above A ball. Gained some experience and he's, frankly, the Sox best pitcher right now (at least pitching the best). Another excellent job of scouting another team's farm. This won't happen only with the top prospects: we'll need a few to sprout out of the weeds. Hopefully, he's one (and there are several other hopefuls).

2018 MLB Draft
They took Nola, but it was with a later pick in a draft that didn't have the college hitters that this one has. Nola also had higher scout ratings than Singer. But I hope you are correct. Drafting Singer doesn't make any sense on any level to me, and calling him best player available would really stretch credulity. But they drafted a ceiling reliever with #27 or so, so this would be nothing new. Quick to the majors rules.

1000% agree; and they can do that with any position in which they are short.

Nick Hostetler Draft History
That surprises me. The GM makes the trades based on scouting reports; would seem that they would also do the draft. On a different matter, I recall 2 years ago that the Sox were rumored to be on Dakota Hudson at #10; he was a mid-rotation ceiling pitcher who ended up going #30 ish. Maybe that was dis-information, maybe it wasn't. But it is consistent with the affectation for Singer.
