That might work to justify a miserable Shields effort. Sox need Rodon to dominate. Cut Thompson, send Engel to AAA;

Once Again, Fire Ricky Renteria
Yes I agree. All we have is hope with nothing to base it on. But there is hope. But JR wasn't always like this. He fired Hemond, fired Piersall, let Caray walk, fired Larusa, fired Hawk, rehired Hawk, fired Torborg, fired Himes.... And then one day he hired Ron Scheuler and for some reason he became the chosen one and from then it has been all in the family.

Ed Farmer and Darrin Jackson
Rooney was a professional announcer; Wills was a professional. Farmer is like the rest of the organization.

Once Again, Fire Ricky Renteria
And why the heck do you bunt when down late in the game especially when you've already burned though half your bullpen, and the other half could use a night off? But it's a happy clubhouse that pays proper respect to the FO and that's what's important. This org. hasn't shown any interest in hiring independent professionals in 2 decades.

6/14 Games
And 3 weeks later, they decided to rebuild. And the same FO that butchered all of the above was given the privilege of conducting the rebuild. what an org.

6/14 Games
Then I assume you were absolutely shocked when they drafted Fulmer, Carson.

Do the White Sox have too much starting pitching?
No, the Sox do not have too much pitching.

How eventful will be this years deadline?
The Sox control Rodon through 2021. So that would be 2 years of prime contention. Good teams will lose players in free agency; you just have to replace them, usually with younger players. Some churn is healthy, as it brings in new people, new faces, new ideas (the org. as a whole could use some churn). And they can always trade him in the future; trade him next year, and you'll get a lot more as his value is set. Sure he could pitch poorly between now and then, but the Sox wouldn't get much for him now anyway. The Sox could also use a pitcher who "knows the ropes." It's refreshing to have one who isn't on the downside of his career, unlike Shields et al.

Rodon reinstated, Beck DFA
Beck and Volstad have both been better than Santiago this year.

How eventful will be this years deadline?
I can't see Jones in the "need to be a good offer" category. That said I can't say I expect him to be dealt as he isn't having a good year. Abreu's understandably there. Are they even entertaining trading Yolmer? It's not like guys are lining up to play 3rd in this organization.

Fangraphs Top 131 Prospects List
No Cease is puzzling, but it's offset by Burdi's inclusion.

How eventful will be this years deadline?
Move any and all. I was an early advocate of moving Fry, but I would demand a return; and I understand why the Sox would be reluctant to do it. Fry is a prospect who looks like he has a complete game, and we immediately ship him out - that is certainly risky. Same with Abreu - I would move him, but I understand why they wouldn't. They could move him next season, and they would still get some value, while keeping his leadership/clubhouse value for another year. But guys like Shields/Santiago and soon Gonzalez are cloggers more than anything. Move them ASAP, if possible.

2018 MiLB White Sox news and notes
What is gained by being catty about who you will pick? So the Reds think we may pick Singer: okay, if we pick him they can pick any of the rest, if we don't,they pick who's left. it's not like you can trade picks. I can see if it if, say, a team had a comp pick in the top 10 plus their own top 10 - in that case, who they pick would involve strategy as well as picking the best player available. Otherwise, maybe it helps in contract negotiation to show that you didn't complete focus on one guy; and the drama and uncertainty is good for draft show ratings. But basically it boils down to a FO not wanting to say who they would have picked if they guy they did pick wasn't available.

Rodon to return this weekend
I like these moves. Bummer is better than Beck, but they have enough lefties for now. Cedeno needed to come up so he can be flipped, if possible. He barely pitched in 2017, but was good in 2015 and 2016. I love ya Trayce, but Palka needs to play every day even though the defense will take a big hit. I thought Santiago's best work over his years with the Sox was as a short-inning reliever. I'm sure he'll be long relief, due to need.

Shields attracting trade interest
I certainly wouldn't want the Sox to trade for Shields. But the Sox did with miles off of his fastball and lousy numbers. They also traded for Liriano and lousy numbers and Myers with mediocre numbers the last time they were in contention in July. And gave up Escobar and Devenski. So take what you can get. The Sox can't trade with themselves, but you never no what might happen. As for reclamation projects like Rondon, those guys are usually under 1 year contracts; either use them if you're contending or flip if you're not. You can't really build around them. The bullpen is naturally the last piece that comes together. Seattle's bullpen went from the best in 2014, to one of the worst in 2015 and back to one of the best in 2016.

Draft Day 3 Thread, rounds 11-40 (Tracker in OP)
I'm digging all of this toolsy pitching in these rounds. The departed in Devenski was grabbed in round 25.

Looks like he's getting squeezed a bit; although maybe the video cuts away before the strike call.

Palka
He should try first base, although he may have to wait for the offseason. Until then, keep playing him and let that hit tool develop. He definitely has skills. Davidson needs to be in the lineup, too. Thompson just can't hit, although the outfield defense with him, Tilson and Engel is probably the best in a decade. But it really doesn't help development. Of course I say this as someone who believes they should move Abreu over the next 6 weeks. The time has come.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
As a non-tanker fan, I must say, nice win. Mostly good pitching across the board today.

6/5- Sox at Twins doubleheader, 3:10
A player I assume that they intended on trading for some return. What a lollipop pitch Jones threw. Plus, I don't see how it's good for player development for players to lose heart, which happens when you clown it up like that. And of course beaten by Escobar....one of 2 magic 8 ball trades made that year.
