Outfield Option - flying under the radar
CWSGuy406 replied to whitesox61382's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't want a guy who complains publicly about the broadcasters, of all people. Not to mention his hissy fit which all but sealed the Cubs fate in the '03 playoffs. Not the guy I want in a clubhouse... -
Who wouldn't mind this for an offseason?

Yeah, considering he has only pitched in the majors for ten years, so the '+' couldn't apply, nor could the 'win 15+ games', because he's only won 15 or more games twice in his career. That was an odd statement to say the least, rednwhite... -
No, I don't think that's going to far. In fact, I'm going to take it one step further. I'm going to say that Carlos is finally going to break out into a star next season and put up MVP type numbers. Am I crazy? (And if Kenny trades Lee, he better get a king's ransom in return...)

If Henry Blanco gets a 1.8 million dollar contract from the White Sox, Kenny Williams and anyone associated with the move should be shot. You get the point... -
Chimpy.... You go to Lemont High School? In other news, Deion Foster (Going to Wisconsin) ran all over my high school's (Oak Forest) defense on route to a 48-23 score (or right around there). Foster's a beast.

Wasn't there some riff-raff between Schilling and Reinsdorf around the '94 strike in which Schilling said he'd never come to the White Sox...?
-
That's what I'd like to know too. I'll take a healthy Clement; hell, he can be our number three, and we got a pretty damn good staff. But if he's the least bit unhealthy, I don't want to touch him at all...

Yep. Thank you, Keith Foulke...

On Comcast Sports Nite, Gail Fischer was speaking with Bruce Levine (he was just on minutes ago). Bruce Levine reports -- well, he has a hunch -- that Steve Stone, in some capacity, will end up within the White Sox organization. What was basically said was that he has some roots within this organization (which I don't know, I'm not very up-to-date on White Sox history), and that he (Bruce) wouldn't be surprised if Stoney ended up with the White Sox. I've never met the guy personally, but he knows his baseball. He's really, really smart -- just from what I see on TV -- so that could definitely be wrong, but that's just what I've seen and heard from him. I'd love it if he were one of our announcers (though I don't know how he and Hawk would mix) -- but I also think he'd be one hell of a talent evaluater within the organization. Thoughts? And -- Steff, have you heard any rumblings about this? Is there any chance that this could be a possibilty? EDIT: And I do realize that there is already a thread in the Sports Bar, but I thought I'd put this in here, cause, well -- it's alittle Sox related, I suppose. But if you (mods) don't feel the same way, you can move it.

I'd actually rather have our home opener a little later. Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to be sitting in 30 degree weather for a baseball game...

Damn... Another year of dissappointment, at least for the Sox in white. Just watching these World Series', every year; they always get to me. Just one time, give me a team like that - that team won the World Series because they were baseball players, each and every one of them loved the game, and had fun playing it. I know I'm only 16, others of you are older than I am; so you're pain that you feel year after year is magnified. But, still - I just want to have that one run, that one dominating run of winning and winning. Please Kenny and Jerry, deliver to us just one World Series Title. Please.

Red Sox Going For The Sweep

Wow... LaRussa totally choked up at the press conference... Congrats to Boston, but damn -- not the way you wanna go out after such a great season. St. Louis will be back next year, I guarantee it. -

Got the game earlier today, and I love it. How are you guys doin' in the weight room? I think my guy is benching right around 300 LBs, and I kicked that boxer's ass. Absolutely dominated him. -

If you don't want my opinion, don't read my posts. If you see CWSGuy406 as the poster, skip right by it. Lord knows anything baseball related with some people on this board, I skip right by... :rolly -
This has really turned into something that I had hoped it wouldn't turn into... I felt back in May, when Maggs was healthy, that even he didn't deserve the $14 million the Sox were handing out to him (I remember debating it with Texsox, I think... Pretty sad that I still remember, huh? ). And, I was OK to see Maggs go, he wanted what he felt he was worth, and the organization made a good offer. I respected both sides for that. But now, this is really turning into a s***-throwing contest... And, I'm not on Maggs' side, BTW. He f***ed up -- that, or he got some really, really bad advice...

If that's the case, then the White Sox have some pretty crappy fans. I understand there are budget/money issues, but if the only reason you come out to a ballgame is because it's half-priced...

The one important stat that you're missing... One SB in 2004 -- and it came on, not a passed ball, not a wild pitch, but PK getting a nice jump. Ah - those were the days, back in April. That was awesome, when he stole second against KC. Congrats Paully!

Get off his case, it was a spur of the moment kind of thing (though I don't think you should have said it either, EJ). But he apologized, so just lay off... EDIT: And back to the thread topic, my condolences go out to the Kellerman family. -

I agree. Cheating in a game like GTA takes the fun out of it. Especially if you cheat to beat a mission. That's taking the pussy way out... -
On the trade of which I proposed - something along the lines of Konerko, Adkins/Cotts, Diaz/Munoz, prospect - which holes are created? The long relief duty would take a hit, sure -- and Konerko's *home* power numbers would be missed. But I don't see that as a hit that this team couldn't overcome... Gload would be able to fill in nicely, and he'd actually help us win more on the road than Konerko did (IMHO). And, while losing an Adkins/Diaz would take a hit to our long relief, I think that Cotts would be able to fill in nicely, and we can go out and get a Glendon Rusch type - emergency starter & long reliever...

Worst team in the NFL right now
CWSGuy406 replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Show me how well the Dolphins do without Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, both of their starting corners (Madison and...), and their starting safety (Knight, isn't it?). Then show me stats... BTW - Let's look at the offenses the Bears went up against... Bears have gone up against the Lions (very solid offense), Packers (pretty good), Vikings (excellent), Eagles (excellent), Redskins (pretty solid), and Bucs (bad). So, they've gone up against just one poor offense - without all of the afformentioned players... -
There's a reason Green Bay cut him. He sucks. There's really nothing more to say on the issue. Let Hutchinson learn the system, and if Krenzel hasn't shown anything by Week 11 or so, throw Chad in there. This season is a lost cause - well, I shouldn't say that. There's still developing, but wins aren't really how I'm going to judge this team. Go down with who ya got; Krenzel and Hutch.

What players are you talking about that have multiple years left on this contract? Most people on this board aren't condoning trading multiple (current) big league players for Johnson. We're talking about trading Konerko/Lee (each, one year left, IIRC), possibly one of Adkins/Cotts, and a minor leaguer or two. At most, Arizona can have two guys off the big league roster -- the last part of the deal would be based on prospects (again -- just speculating according to most of the people on the board). I still want Rowand here. And I agree with your premise -- that if we were to trade a bunch of big leaguers for Johnson, it wouldn't really help because we'd have created more holes and only filled one by getting our ace. I do this deal if it's along the lines of Konerko, Adkins, Diaz/Munoz, and a lower level prospect.

I bet you were saying the same thing about Johnson after the 2003 season and after all of his knee problems. Everyone said Johnson was going to break down last year - and what does he do? Come back with a Cy Young-candidate season. I believe over the long haul of the season, consistency is the most important thing. That's why I believe (well, I shouldn't say I believe like I've come up with some magical potion -- this isn't some new theory) a strong bullpen and a consistent offense will get you to the playoffs. But once your there -- that's where the stars shine. If we could throw out Johnson, to Garcia, to Buehrle, for the first three games of a series... Wow. That's awesome right there. Three pitchers, all of pretty different styles - Johnson, the hard throwing lefty, Garcia, the 'good-stuff', pretty hard-throwing righty, and then Mr. Pinpoint Buehrle. Not saying Buehrle doesn't throw hard, but just not in the upper-90's. Opportunities like this don't come up every day. I don't think I've ever said this in particular about one trade/FA rumor -- but I believe that trading for Randy Johnson gives us a World Series caliber team. Honestly.
