QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) A strong .214 OBP for the leadoff hitter with a 43/5 K to walk ratio Its almost Ozzie like with the whole need for a speed guy that has to lead off no matter how bad he is. Brings me back to the Wise, Pierre, etc. days.

And Beckham costs the sox a run.
-
Never thought 4-5 years later I would actually hate watching Gordon Beckham play.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) If I had to pick one, I'm going with Bryant. In person he just puts on a show. Agreed and I'm a big Soler fan. Both guys are by far my favorite prospects in their system and both will unfortunately be studs for the Cubs for years to come. Bryant is just a superstar type talent.

De Aza.. that was woman's softball Scotty Pods-esqe.
-
Both pitchers 9 up, 9 down.
-
DeMichele got his first hit in 14 ABs in AA.

Gonna be a long night with Paxton. Kid has very good stuff and we are batting a horrid lineup.
-
Haha. Hawk said "b****" on the air.
-
Micah has very good range (his arm isn't great of course) cause of his speed. There's a video on milb that showcases his speed over the middle on a little flair in the OF.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) They said oblique so not sure if that happened from the wall hit or his swing last night Ugh. Good thing this is toward the end of the season. Those oblique injuries tend to linger.

The baseball gods do not want Avi back this season. It's pretty telling.

Funny that Snodgress is thinking of ditching the change up when that interview Hulet gave a year ago said that was his plus pitch. I think I remember his scouting report also saying that or his slider. Hope the sox brass talks to him about that. I think he will be a fixture as the sox lefty in the pen. His velocity, I believe, should surely rise back to the 95+ like it was in Stanford out of the pen.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) He's the very definition of boom or bust. 1-6 with 3k's and a HR isnt going to keep you in the majors. He has to show pitch recognition and the ability to get on base. It reminds me of my argument with Jason about Chris Young in the FutureSox thread a few years ago. I was right at the end (sorry Jason ), but even he showed better strike zone judgement. But alas, we'll have to wait and see. I can easily see Theo dangling him in a deal for pitching in the off season though.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) I think he's a much, much better prospect than Almora. No doubt (I doubt anyone disagrees there) but the hype, comparisons, etc. Cubs fans, media, etc. give these two is pretty ridiculous. I love Bryant, I love Soler. Obviously I'm not a scout, but even I don't see some of the hofty crap with those two (and with Bryant I could at least understand since he is awesome )

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) Definitely deserves QO now That was better than anything Belisario has done in a while.. or Rienzo.. or hell, even Surkamp.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) I haven't seen a single person say he's a bust waiting to happen. I've just seen people say he has potential to hit 40 homers, but given how much he strikeouts there's no guarantee he becomes a great hitter and he may bust. I think he's the most overrated prospect of their top guys (close with Almora) but their is no denying his talent.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) If he's recovered from his injury, I like that move. His speed and elusiveness was robbed thanks to that foot injury, but as a number 3.. I would like the move alot. I do miss watching the steelers version of him though... -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) To be frank, given where we are at in the season, if he's healthy and able to play at AAA, then once we think his timing is back and he's capable, its time for him to play with the big league club. I'm really interested to hear if any of these hits he's getting are of the inside variety. I remember Ptatc saying that is gonna be the thing to watch as I'm sure pitchers are going to pitch inside to him.
-
So you leave out Petricka, who has probably been our best arm in the pen and is probably one of the rare locks for next season (maybe Putnam as well) and list the other crap? I'm going to assume you just forgot about him.
-
Dear god yes. His fastball velocity has decreased, and I've always found him overrated as a prospect, but he's still just 23 years old. Solid secondary pitches, right handed, etc. With that said, no chance he gets past the Cubs. I think Theo has to be chopping at the bit here. Perfect buy low type.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) IIRC Bennett scrapped with some DBs last year too Yea there have been rumors since last year that he rubs teammates the wrong way with his "sense of humor." I doubt he's very well liked with some, if not most of his teammates, but he produces so I'm sure they deal with it. I was more impressed with Cutler pulling the rookie Fuller to the side and telling him not to worry about it. That kind of stuff you didn't see with Jay 3-4 years ago. -
Putnam starts rehab tonight with Charlotte

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) Good we need him with the big club. You know your bullpen is bad when we are hoping for Zach Putnam to return as quickly as possible. -
Nice outing for Noesi. 7 IP 4 H 3 R 1 ER 3 BB 6 SO. ERA under 5 now.

Tumbleweeds a double away from the cycle.
