QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 20, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) Like Teahen at 3B? Teahen's UZR was already bad when he got here at 3B playing at 3B majority in 05-06.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) Frankly, Rios needed an offday. He is slumping, but the sox just had an off day day three days ago (PPD) and another one seven days ago. I don't think a professional player needs to be coddled this much mentally. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) Vizquel is an interesting comparison though, because, despite being at what I'd say is a harder position, he doesn't make that many errors. He hasn't made an error since 2008. In 2006 he made 4 errors as SS for the entire bloody season. And that is why he is a HOF, not to mention still gets a gig in this game at his age.

AJ at 2, Kotsay at DH, no Rios tonight. -
Teahen.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) The problem with being that kind of fielder though is...if you lose a step at all, then suddenly you're worthless. Depends if you can't hit too though. Vizquel has lost about 5 steps and is still very good defensively at age 44. Can't hit a lick like he used to however, which would put him in a "worthless" category to some people out there.

Anyone got our "outstanding" line-up yet? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) Probably also worth noting that high error totals/fairly low fielding percentages were pretty commonplace for Nix coming up through the minors as well. His career FP at 2b in the big leagues is .973, in the minors at 2b it was .972. Nice find. So he was pretty much equal to his career average as a fielder. It is to be expected when you have incredible range at a position. Jose Valentin comes to mind even though he was making like 30+ errors a season. He had great range at SS however. Mostly the simple plays you lose focus more than the harder ones.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) He's not supposed to be. But it's worth noting that he had 6 errors at 2b last year in about 50 games at the position. If he kept up that exact pace for a full season, he'd have led MLB in errors for 2b. Yeah, that's not all of it, and he had a positive UZR there last year so he does make up for some of the errors by covering a lot of ground, but I wouldn't ignore the errors there. He is not suppose to be great at SS and 3B, two positions he never played in his career prior to last season (not counting the occasional LF, etc.. as well) Hard to get in a groove at 2B also when you only play once.. maybe twice a week (or 2 weeks), not to mention are consistently being moved around. Like you pointed out though, his UZR was still pretty good with all that happening. Imagine if he stayed there, playing everyday, at one position the whole season.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) Recent snippet on a guy a few people on here are high on, Stetson Allie. He's been plessed with a heck of a right arm and it sounds like he's making progress with his command. Decent chance he is available when the Sox draft, but he is the complete opposite of guys the Sox have targeted typically in the 1st round of the draft. He is drooling with potential. Basically another Brandon Morrow with the same control issues.

Kyle Shelton did it all. He played 2B, LF AND pitched for the Dash. 1 IP 1 H 0 R. Not to mention went 3-8, HR, RBI, 2 R BB, (though 4 SO) Nice job all around for the kid.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ May 19, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Don't forget the two times he did catch a runner stealing "that throw was beautiful, by catcher, Chase Blackwood" i believe were the exact words used by Alex Vispoli to describe the throw to 2nd base for the first CS. I have been listening to the game from the very beginning, i KNOW he's suckin it up offensively ..i'm not retarded ...but he's doing fine defensively DESPITE the error. You are correct. BTW, he is up with runners on 2nd and 3rd 2 outs in the 20th inning. HOLY s***! BLACKWOOD WINS THE GAME! 4-3 20 innings! They are celebrating like crazy! 1-9 for Blackwood.... and he makes his first hit in a Dash uniform count.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 19, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) 19th inning. Crazy, crazy game. Man at this rate, guys like Short, Gilmore, etc.. will return back to normal average wise. Geez, alot of 0-for or 1-fors with all the accumulated ABs.
-
QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) Teheran DEFINITELY kicked our butts! 102 pitches with 74 of those being strikes ..how does that even happen?!?! lol Hate to say it, but your boy Blackwood has been awful. 0-8... 6 SO he also has a throwing error on a pickoff attempt that nearly cost W-S the game. Good news is W-S tied the game again 3-3 from Justin Greene's single earlier in the 14th I believe.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) We're not going to catch the Tigers at this rate. Forget about the Twins. Whoa... optimist J4L... is that you?

Some great discussion going on here. WC, Caulfield, Balta, etc.. carry on.

I'm mentally preparing myself for the brutal Lakers/Celtics final. I would much rather have Kobe add to his legacy, than Rondo and those other douches win another title. Magic have a better chance comming back in their series than the Suns do IMO. Lakers are just a brutal match-up for the Suns.
-
My Dash now down 3-2 in the 17th. They had to deal with Julio Teheran today who is just a stud. Bellamy.. 3 IP 0 H 0 R 0 BB 4 SO. He should be on the fast track this year in our system.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) There's a big difference between averaging a lot of steals and being a good defender. Remember.. I'm the one who said Rajon Rondo is overrated defensively despite him being at the top of the league in (reach around) steals. I would think most NBA die hards know that.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) So, you're saying that the Wiz will have a terrible defensive backcourt, or am I misunderstanding? Wall + Arenas isn't "terrible," but it is pretty bad. Wall will improve defensively as he matures, but Arenas has no desire to do so in that area. I will say this about Wall, that kid is very smart and will play the passing lanes very well. (wouldn't be surprised to see him average 1+ steals a game as a rookie) Arenas will have alot to prove next year, so I expect him to be pretty good offensively for the Wiz.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) The big difference is that Kirk plays defense. No doubt, but Agent 0 is better offensively. Wall already is like Rose with his defense, not to mention the Wiz are still rebuilding. They can't put Arenas at backup and they can't trade him (I don't think any team is foolish to take that contract not to mention the gun issues) Unless they want to try Wall out as a SG (which I wouldn't think they do) they really have no choice. As a couple of posters here said, they can't trade Wall. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 19, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) Since I like Henry for the Bulls I assume he wont be there. Felix can quote me if I'm wrong on this (sorry about your T-Wolves not getting a top 2 pick BTW man ) but they pick 4th and I believe right before us at 16. They need a SG as well so I think they will take Henry or Anderson with their 16th pick if both are still there right before us IMO. Could be a Johnson/Henry draft for them to help out Love which wouldn't be a bad future at all. I like Johnson. (don't think Favors will last after 3, and Cousins is really boom or bust.. no in between and the Wolves still have Jefferson unless he is traded)

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:36 AM) It scares me how much a John Wall for Andrew Bynum + pick deal makes sense. Stick to hockey. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) It scares me even more that you think that would make any sense. Andrew Bynum has missed almost 100 games over the last 3 seasons. Even if he wasn't made of glass, he's not a dominating type that you could build your team around. The Lakers got their freebee in Pau Gasol. They're not about to get another one in John Wall. If the Lakers pulled that off (again) I might be done with the NBA (unless we get LeBron, then I'll jump right back in it ). Their plan from what I've heard is they will stick Arenas at SG, no questions asked. (dude still has a big contract afterall) If Kirk Hinrich's 6'3 ass was playing SG with us and we got to the playoffs, I'm sure they will be fine with Arenas playing SG for them with a talent like Wall.

Shirek... ouch. Marrero already has 25 BBs on the season. Please start hitting kid.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 19, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) Probably belongs in the Diamond Club. Not unless he signs with the Mets. Still sox related/involving, not to mention this was already in pale hose prior to the bump-up.
