ESPN Article: KW and Sox Player Availability
I'm all for a youth movement. Youth was a huge reason we made it to the playoffs this year anyways (Quentin, Ramirez, Danks, Floyd). I'd hate to see Jenks and Dye leave but it would make things real interesting. I know there aren't alot of BA fans or Jerry Owens fans but I think those guys deserve a shot at some point. The Twins outplay us every year with 1/2 the talent our team has. It's time to see what they are made of. We can always plug holes later in the season.

ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...
QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) If I understand correctly, this is real life and not MLB 2k7. Sorry for the asshole comment, but for something like you suggested were to happen, this would be MLB 2k7. Don't pay attention to the players I mentioned other than the fact that we would get promising prospects and free up money to bring in possible free agents. The point I was trying to make is if you can turn 3 good players into 5 or 6 good players then you should do it. I think it would be worth it for the Mets too.

ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:39 PM) That's not just highway robbery; that is Kenny Williams driving into the worst neighborhood in town, finding a thug on the side of the road, stopping, getting out, offering the keys, presenting him with the title to the car, then sucking off the guy in the back seat and waving good-bye to him as he pulls off. How do you figure? Sox free up $30mil from the books. They sign, say, Frucal and Lowe. So you are looking at Dye, Jenks, Vazquez for Frucal, Lowe, Pelfrey, Heilman and Murphy. Not bad if you ask me.

I wonder if we will see a long term contract for Quentin come out of any major free up of money. Makes sense.

Sox / Rays talking Jermaine Dye deal
How about... TB Gets: Jenks Dye Sox Get: Davis Crawford Another prospect Sox trade Vazquez. That frees up about $20mil in 2009 salaries. Rotation: Buehrle Danks Floyd Free Agent: Lowe? Davis/Richard/Marquez Lineup: LF Crawford SS Ramirez RF Quentin DH Thome 1B Konerko CA Pierzynski 3B Fields 2B Getz/Nix CF Owens

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) OK, this is a basic, down and dirty quick stat, but an OPS+ of 100 is an average hitter, league and ball park adjusted, with ever number above or below 100 basicaly meaning the player is a percentage point better than average. http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/swishni01.shtml 05-07 Swisher's OPS + was 111.25, including his 92 from 08, meaning he was 11.25% better than an average player http://www.baseball-reference.com/u/uribeju01.shtml over the same years Uribe's OPS was 77, 23% below average. You can make the argument that Swisher was a 34% better player over those years, and that's including 08. I'm only trying to say that Swisher wasn't as awesome as some people make him out to be. Some people say the Sox got fleeced and I don't thinnk they did. You mentioned that Swisher's OPS was 11% better than average, which is kind of what I was saying, he's average. You just presented it better.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
I'll probably get killed for saying this but if you look at 2005-2007 and compare Uribe and Swisher offensively, Swisher isn't that good. 2005-2007 hr/rbi/avg/obp Uribe 19/70/.240/.281 Swisher 26/82/.251/.358 I'm not saying Uribe is as good as Swisher, I'm just saying if you compare Swisher to Uribe you'll see he's isn't going to be missed.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
I got tired of Swisher's backwards Ks. I'm sure there are more dominos to fall that will make sense out of this. In Kenny We Trust

Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 05:17 AM) Ok, I found one more. Toni Ginnetti in the Dec. 14th, 2005 Chicago Sun Times wrote: "Sox rumored to be interested in Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Javier Vazquez", you have to pay for the full article so this will have to do. Javy was traded a few days later. I guess what would have made more sense for me to say is that of all the deals that are rumored very few ever happen. I don't think any of the recent trades have leaked. Danks, Gavin, Quentin, Cabrera and Swisher all came out of no where.

Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
My theory about the Jenks rumor, it's smoke and mirrors by both KW and Minaya. Minaya is trying to bring down the price the free agents are asking. KW is trying to get Jenks to sign a long term deal. KW did the same thing when Garland, Garcia, Buehrle, Contreras, Vazquez were all nearing free agency. He shopped them and got them to extend, even at a discount. Jenks could bring some talent back in return but he has been so solid it's hard to see KW trade him. Plus, like I've said many times on this board, the deals that are rumored with KW never happen. He's all about suprises.

Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) Serious? Let's also go after Thomas,Bonds,Maddux,P.martinez,R.Johnson and Ivan Rodriguez! LOL. I wasn't serious about Griffey.
-
Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
The Twins traded the best pitcher in baseball for players that didn't even impact their team and they were 1 game from making the playoffs. Anything is possible. Besides, dumping Dye and Jenks could free up money for some big move. Griffey???
-
Some more names that might make sense to KW
Unless KW gets blown over by an offer, we will probably see Nix or Getz at 2B. I would love to get Grudzielanek but the money it would cost us could be spent elsewhere. I'm also a true believer that your minor league system should be able to produce at least 1 pitcher and 1 position player every year or they aren't doing their job. I just love the fact that KW is always active in the offseason. Keeps us on our feet and busy at work

Rafael Furcal
Kenny has never been a free agent type of GM. All of his moves are via the trade. So I don't see Frucal happening. Free Agent Signings: Dotel Linebrink Ramirez Dye Pierzynski Hall Trades: Thome Quentin Swisher Cabrera Thornton MacDougal Freddy Garcia Vazquez Danks Floyd Contreras Griffey

Trading Vazquez a "priority"
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) How about we don’t have an injury-prone guy whose average season has an OPB of 331, and a slugging of .337 starting in an American League Lineup? I assume you are referring to Taveras?
-
Trading Vazquez a "priority"
How about Vazquez for Atkins and Taveras, then we sign Lowe 3/36. Taveraz bats 9th and plays CF. We could flip Atkins or trade fields.

What Is Becoming Evident in Playoffs
I don't like the Phillies pitching aside from Hamels. Moyer, Myers and Blanton will all get killed by TB bats. TB has some good pitching. They are young too so they'll be around awhile.
-
Remember Keith Law's preseason report on Floyd?
He almost no hit the Tigers and the Twins. In yo face Keith!
-
Sox off-season outlook
You have to think that Carl Crawford might be available. TB has alot of OFs and he is expensive for them. Maybe they would do a swisher for crawford deal? They could use the power and swisher can play RF, LF, CF, DH and 1B.
-
The piece that doesn't fit
How about Anderson, Richard, Fields and Swisher for Roberts and Mora. (+14) Move Alexei to SS. Thome for Figgins CF (-9) Add 5 mil to the payroll CF Figgins 2B Roberts LF Quentin DH Dye 1B Konerko CA Pierzynski 3B Mora SS Ramirez RF Wise
-
It was a good season
Alot of good happened this season besides us making the playoffs: 1. Carlos Quentin 2. Alexei Ramirez 3. John Danks 4. Gavin Floyd Alot of people complained about our lack of youth and you have 4 players there that will be around for awhile. I too would love to see Thome, Cabrera, Vazquez, Griffey and Uribe gone. I think Swisher can rebound and Konerko still has something to contribute.

Sox batters against Sonnanstine
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 01:06 AM) By the way, it sure would be nice to bring back Bradford and have him in our pen again. Amazing that it was 8 years ago he was a surprise roster addition against the Mariners in the playoffs. I can't believe Bradford cleared waivers. KW fell asleep on that one.

Should I blow off school work to go to the game?
Cs and Ds get degrees

What is your Current State?
If you win 1 of 2 on the road in the playoffs then it's a plus. As much as I would have liked to win yesterday, I really like our chances the next 3 games. I would like to see Richard start over Javy the next time around. Or start Javy and take him out after 3 innings. He's untouchable the first three innings most the time.
-
Clayton Richard
If we lose Contreras for 2009 then I would like to see us move Javy, put Richard in at #5 and sign Lowe. He might be in the 3/39 range that Kenny hunts for. I want Javy and Thome both gone. We need consistency.
