And as far as the 102 goes - I like big numbers too. But I also worry about elbow screws , ala Cal Eldred. Once you have put enough force on a joint to cause a stress fracture, how long before it happens again.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27 @ 2005 -> 11:17 PM) I can't believe someone is actually saying that Rowand44 is negative. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) You don't think I'm negative fathom? Let's get this right. fathom is a worry wart (like the rest of us he wants the Sox to win, badly, and it is just his way of handling the pressure.) Rowand44 is droll.

QUOTE(Bighurt52235 @ Aug 27 @ 2005 -> 05:53 AM) wow..... all I noticed on th Charlotte pic were blue seats... what is average attendance? QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) ...and WHY aren't those seats GREEN????? The pictures are from Ottawa. I don't know, but it is embarrasingly low. Ottawa's first year in the International league was a phenomenal success, as they broke attendance records. The novelty seems to have worn off. There is a very good chance the franchise will be moved after next year. Although lots of people would exchange their first born for season tickets to Senators hockey games, it is not a very good sports town. It all boils down to cultural traditions. And to make the pictoral's empty seats even more sad - remember it was during a Big Hurt visit. :headshake I went to all 4 games. Each time I was able to walk up to the ticket booth 30 minutes before game time and take my pick of first row tickets behind home plate or angled closer to the vistor's dugout.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) You'd think after the Twins 16 inning debacle that Ozzie would try to create offense in extra innings. Why not have Ozuna run for AJP before, and then put a hit-and-run on? Ozzie should see that everyone is swinging for the fences, and more often than not, that's a recipe for an extra innings loss. He bunted Anderson over. It's not his fault the 2 and 3 hitters struck out after that. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Timo tries to be way too cute at the plate. His skills don't match his mindset. By the sounds of it, that was pretty cute - wasn't it?

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) He did? I was merely echoing Farmer's comments. It's true. I don't have the advantage of video, unless it's on WGN.

One White Sox hitter and 2 derogatory comments. All he did was hit the ball hard.

Trever Miller in for Tampa in the 7th with 2 out and the tying runs in scoring position for Cleveland. This is the guy who was brought in yesterday to start the 7 run 7th. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) He blew the hit-and-run. Ozuna should have been out by 5 feet if the throw was good. Ok. But this is Santana. Swinging and missing off of him is pretty normal. And I know Iguchi has had trouble lately with this scenario, but overall he has been very reliable in these situations. It's a long season. For all of the games that have been played this year, I think he has done fulfilled his hitting responsibilities as well as anyone on the team. And this from a guy that is facing Major League hitting for the first time. He isn't up there hitting 9th, where he can play see ball, hit ball - he has to take all kinds of pitches, hit where the infielders aren't, give himself up. I wouldn't dream of moving him in the order, or getting on his case. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Not from me. The only thing I'm disappointed at is with the continued lack of execution by this team. Our "great" number 2 hitter screwed up twice in his AB, and we're lucky Ozuna wasn't CS for the third time in two games. I don't have the advantage of seeing the game, but I know he struck out on the screwball. Presuming that was one of his 'screw ups', what other hitable pitches did he miss? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Whenever the Sox face Johan, I have no expectations of a win. Even if the Sox had won 20 games in a row, I'd still think the same. I just think Santana is the best pitcher in baseball. And yet every inning that the Sox fail to score off him, there are comments pointing at the Sox ineptitude. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) BTW, that's now 3 times in last 3 games that Iguchi K'd with a runner on 2nd, no outs in the first inning. A bad stretch, but they are tough pitchers. He is still an excellent #2 hitter. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) Thought that was at least off the baggy for sure. Metrodome must wait til Twins come up to turn those fans on. What ever became of that story? Does Major League Baseball keep an eye on that crap? -

I just got home from work and the official site says PPD for the starting time of tonight's game. Is it raining in Chicago? -
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) Is Anderson's arm really that good? I still laugh about the Angels outfield for a few games last year with Vlad, Guillen, and Mondesi. The Braves have a great throwing outfield, as Francouer has an absolute rifle. When Frank came to Ottawa for 4 games with the Knights, I saw Anderson throw out a couple of guys at home. He threw absolute peas and they didn't even bounce - low strikes - absolutely took my breath away.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) If you're looking for him to hit above .300 you can just start hating him now. It's not gonna happen. The odds of him going Francoeur on us are just insanely low. At best he'll hover around .280-.290, but I'm expecting more in the .260s or .270s. He should draw walks at a decent rate and bring some servicable power. And don't be surprised if he provides the odd defensive spark - especially with his arm.

[/b] QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Pods impact on this team was overrated the first half of the season. It was our pitching that carried us. Pods doesn't have a very high run scored total this season. I don't think you can measure his value with stats. This club has been station to station since the Rudy Law years. His legs have to pick everyone up. At one point I think he had 22 steals in a row. The pitchers were admittedly the biggest part of our success early, but with the games being close, everone seemed to believe that they could get it done and they did. For the moment they look flat footed again and suddenly the opposition seems to be psychologically sharp. It's like the difference between having that prick - Rickey Henderson - hitting first on your club, or having him injured. It changes averyone's attitude - starting with, but not ending with the opposition's pitcher.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15 @ 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Don't forget our managers get severely out-managed by the opposition. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) If thats true we must have an unbelievalbe amount of talent to have the best record in baseball to win in spite of our manager. Exactly. Ozzie does not get enough credit. And I say this while occasionaly scratching my own head at his moves. His on field managerial skills are only part of his job description. I think Oz brings an attitude and carries himself in an invaluable manner. Somehow he has this team 12 games up.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) I'm a diehard Sox fan, but I'm also a baseball "expert". I'll say this (and I'm sure I'll be bashed): I have absolutely no clue how the Sox are 12 games up on the Indians, and 15 on the Twins. It's one of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had in sports, because this is not a great Sox team we're talking about. We need a healthy Pods getting on....stealing........being advanced by Gooch.....being plated by the big boys. End of 1st, we are leading and excited. This is the way it was drawn up and when Pods comes back (healthy), we should see more of the same. Pressure offense ...... make the other guys play scared.

If I'm making out tomorrow's lineup, this is what it looks like: Rowand CF Iguchi 2B Everett DH Konerko 1B Dye RF AJ C Anderson LF Crede 3B Uribe SS Unfortunately I think I saw that Timo has good numbers against Radke. :headshake
