QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Relax. The Winter Meetings haven't even arrived yet. The 2 main free agent pitchers haven't signed yet. KW is actually being wise waiting this out. Teams aren't going to suddenly not need pitching. He has all the cards. When one of the big market teams gets shut out of the Zito/Schmidt sweepstakes, the price for a White Sox starter should skyrocket. exactly. i think we are all so used to kenny being aggressive and making an early move. but in this case waiting just drives up the value of our pitchers. as much as i would love to hear some news, this is the right move. and hey, its only december 2nd.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) What would everybody say is the "best" contract out of the three OFers signed so far, Pierre, Soriano, or Matthews? I hate to say it, but you could make a pretty good case for it being Soriano's... and Carlos Lee and JD Drew haven't even signed yet... i'd say the matthews and pierre deals are making the soriano contract look better... still not good, but better.

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) I don't think Thomas deserved more points than Dye. i can kind of understand this. thomas was oakland's offense. the white sox had a ton of offense coming from all over the lineup. in that regard thomas was the more valuable player. thomas was just a dh though too. not saying i agree, but i can see how some would rationalize that thomas was more valuable.

i think this deal is way too long. pierre has a grand total of one usefull skill on the baseball field, and that is speed. even one minor, nagging injury could be enough to slow him down. you cannot spend that much on a single skill player. furcal will make 13 million next year. and he plays gold glove defense at a premium defensive position, with a little bit of power. and oh yeah, they are the same age.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) why not Blum's homer? huh? huh? come on now... ha, i don't know if the astros will be too keen on that idea

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) Buster Olney is positive that LaRussa didn't challenge the issue last night due to his friendship with Leyland. if that is true i would be pretty pissed if i was a st. louis fan. once you step on the field, i don't care who you are, if you are on the other team, i hate you. we can be friends after we beat you.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) ... He'll probably start putting it on his glove. Between this and Monroe's over-the-top reaction to hitting a dinger, one can only hope that Karma makes an appearance in this series. you mean the glove he wore all the way down into the clubhouse. joe buck noticed it right away that he didn't take his glove off.

from the mlb rule book seems to me like just having the stuff on his hand the first inning was enough to warrent an ejection.
-
i'm not saying that all of kenny's sucess was from whatever it was on his hand. but that sure looked a lot like pine tar. and i don't know if you've ever tried to get pine tar off your hands, but its a b****. his hand could have stayed tacky for a while after "cleaning" it off.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) ... I don't know if it should be Dye, Crede, 3/5 of our starting pitchers, or what. But we need to move some of these guys and get younger, and we can not let talent like these guys have walk as free agents because we hesitate. you are right, and i don't think kenny will be one to hesitate. i have little doubt the front office in chicago on the southside has a pretty good idea of what they are doing in the future. i don't think kenny will just sit by and let us get old and expensive like the yankees.

to finish the other half of the rules... any player selected in the rule v draft must be on the major league roster the entire year, or be offered back at half the cost.

i think the cards have a good chance to win game 4. robertson has been pretty awful so far. he did win game one against the a's, but he allowed a ton of baserunners and the a's crapped their pants.

i never read any articles written by pedro i castrate. that guy is a douche.

Tetrahydrogestrinone on a HR tear
fullcollapse replied to Phuck the Cubs's topic in The Diamond Club
i just quickly scanned the last page or so of this thread, so if this was already brought up, sorry for being lazy. what dosage of anabolic steroids is considered abusive? what amount would be considered to be "safe?" and how much steroids would you need to see a significant difference in muscle mass? would a safe amount of steroids cause enough of a difference to really beef someone up? -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 03:02 AM) I'm wonder one thing... When the hell was the last time the Angels traded for a big time player? I went back as far as 1998, because it's late as hell...but I settled on Gregg Jeffries. They've traded big contracts(Finley, Vaughn, Bottenfield), and they've traded big names(Edmonds, Guillen)...but most of their trades have been minor deals. Stoneman has also been criticized in the past as being a little gunshy, so it just makes me wonder how serious they are. Then again, there's never been a name as big as ARod on the market. We'll see, if ARod is made available for trade in the offseason, if Anaheim truly is interested. in that last paragraph you bring up something i never thought of before. obviously merano has started to wage war on the dodgers and the la area, what a better way to butts in the seats and sway young children to be angels fans that to go get arod. i think it is usually good for an owner to stay out of the way of the gm, since owners usually know little to nothing about baseball. On the other hand, how many chances do you have to get someone who is probably one of the best players of an era.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) Taken off the AP wire tonight. You still want A-Rod?? He is a loser. Paid too much. Give me a hard worker anyday. The Hackensack Record They talk about pinstripe tradition, but the roster is plagued by petty rivalries and jealousies that act as a cancer in the postseason. Derek Jeter can’t stand Alex Rodriguez and refuses to come to his defense. Mike Mussina doesn’t like A-Rod, either, although, come to think of it, the Stanford grad hasn’t much use for any of his teammates. No one talks to Johnson. Everyone thinks Carl Pavano is a joke. The Yankees’ best pitcher, Chien-Ming Wang, is isolated by his limited knowledge of English. On and on, the list of dysfunctions keeps going. Instead of a dynasty, the Yankees have become a newer version of the Braves — consistently outplayed by younger, hungrier teams such as the Diamondbacks (2001), the Angels (2002 and 2004), the Marlins (2003) and now the Tigers. Steinbrenner has only two choices now: He can fire Torre or trade A-Rod. They’re the ones who must answer to the Yankees’ consistent underachievement. By all accounts, The Boss already has decided it’s Torre who’ll go, ready to replace him with Lou Piniella do i dare open up the can of worms about how chemistry doesn't equal wins?

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) I agree, they had an awful lot of guys in the lineup producing well over their career numbers. Even Morneau and Cuddyer are no locks to repeat their performances (though I wouldn't bet against the former). That'd make my off-season if they don't do anything major, I don't see a run like they had from June on happening again. yes, if there was ever a team to regress, the 2006 twins are it. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) Because he is a Free Agent after the 2008 season, and he's coming off of a career year, and he has back problems that Mr. Boras's folks do not want him to have surgery to correct. and because Josh Fields has now had a full year at AAA and should probably play in the big leagues next year for someone. for all those reasons i have already come to terms with the fact that joe crede probably will not sign a long term deal with the sox. that is why i wouldn't have a problem dealing crede now. crede's value is as high as its ever been.
-
hey, if joe borchard has trade value, then uribe definitely has trade value.
-
do you really think garcia, crede, broadway would get it done? steinbrenner might be an idiot, but cashman isn't. did garcia do anything this year to prove he can still be anything more than a league average pitcher. and unless crede goes over boras' head, i don't think he is getting surgery on his back. would the yankees want another old pitcher on the downswing of his career, a guy who, without surgery, is probably going to be bothered by his back for periods of time, and a guy who hasn't proved anything beyond AA? i would do crede, garcia, and broadway for arod in a heartbeat.
-
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) I also don't think the Yankees would even be mildly interested in prospects. I think a front line starter absolutely has to be had for the Yankees. Freddy Garcia isn't that. i agree, on both points. no way the yankees would want garcia, not if they've learned from their mistakes. for arod and cash they are going to want something to help immediatly in return.

QUOTE(shipps @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) But how could you ever really tell if someone truly has A.D.D.?It seems like its something a player can easliy fake. some players could be diagnosed as a child, long before they ever play pro ball. i saw or read an interview with laroche a couple years back and i believe he has had a.d.d. for some time, if i remember correctly.
-
boy sets fire After the Eulogy its not about baseball, but i think it kind of relates to how the team has played like they were satisfied with winning last year and the lack of intesity this year.
-
i would have no problem keeping uribe for 07. i understand that on the offensive side he is pretty poor, but i'd be willing to bet that he isn't this bad next year and his defense will still be one of the best in baseball.
