2011 NFL Lockout Thread
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Adrian Peterson: "(The NFL) is modern-day slavery.... People kind of laugh at that, but there are people working at regular jobs who get treated the same way, too. With all the money . . . the owners are trying to get a different percentage, and bring in more money.” HUH??? -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) But how many other historians from the time were around who we have works from? Obviously it would have been nice if Herodotus or Thucydides had mentioned something but all of the other classical historians who much is known from (Plutarch, Arrian, Strabo, Pliny the Elder) lived 500 or so years after Plato. Most information was passed on orally so it's not that surprising to not be mentioned elsewhere. Also, as someone else said, there's no way of knowing what kinds of writings have been lost over the years. Who knows, there could have been something lost when the library at Alexandria tragically was destroyed. If I could go back in the time, the first place I would go is Alexandria to stop the fire. then maybe go see the birth of Jesus.

QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) You are making an assumption that he is the only one. His stories are just the ones that survived. that's a fair counter point.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) IIRC, Plato made up Atlantis in his writings to examine/explain a hypothetical situation... I tend to agree with that. The fact that he just happens to be the ONLY person to tell that story is a little suspect.

The job I REALLY wanted called my references, but I did not make the top three for an interview. oh well.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 11:14 PM) I was 9 years old in the summer of 1991 but I VIVIDLY recall EVERY SINGLE ONE of those players from that team. Cliff Levingston, Craig Hodges, etc. I was almost 8, I dont remember all of the players, but I do remember being allowed to stay up late to watch the games.

@maddow - #Nuclear safety commission in #Japan cites cesium detection -- may mean a nuclear meltdown has occurred at fukushima.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) Entire Japan coast shifted 2.4 metres, earth axis moves ten inches Earth's axis has reportedly shifted ten inches as a result of the quake, and Japan's coast is said to have permanently shifted 2.4 metres. St Louis, Missouri media outlets report that city has moved an inch as a result of the quake. Japan quake moved St. Louis "a fraction of an inch"
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) How is that even possible? I am sure there is a certain geologist here who can explain this

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) The only people gaining from this is maybe the UFL. Not really, in my opinion. This will get ironed out by August. -
It seemed to make sense to move on from the 2010-2011 NFL Thread. The union just decertified. @AndrewSiciliano - Mort reporting NFLPA decertifies in federal court in Minneapolis For those who are interested, I created an NFL Twitter list, the latest tweets from NFL Reporters/Players/Agents: http://twitter.com/#!/HuskyCaucasian/nfl

I predict there will be no 18 game schedule. Maybe a decreased pre-season, but no 18 game schedule. (could they meet halfway and go with a 17 game schedule?) -

@peggykusinski - #NFLPA rep says he's told players to prepare for a lockout & expects a decision later today on de certifying. @AdamSchefter - Owners and NFLPA meeting now -- the last gasp to try to make something happen. -

@dkaplanSBJ - BREAKING NEWS: nfl players are set leave negotiating and go to court to decertify, source in room says @dkaplanSBJ. - Now hearing may be one last ditch effort to avoid decertification. Things changing by the minute with less than an hr to go. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) +1 in support of Wisconsin bill from me. Then again, I'm a known anti-union guy. I am going to go all John Kerry on this and say I am both Pro and Anit- Union. I think they are one of the greatest positives for this country in our ability to protect workers, but when they get TOO powerful, they become anti-productive. The unions in WI might be too strong (I dont know all the details on this subject), but basically giving them the middle finger isnt they way it should be done by a governor.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Funny, I don't remember you claiming this when Obama passed the healthcare law despite the will of the people not supporting it. Actually, the polls showed they did, until the GOP started all the fear mongering of death panels and "grandma's gonna die" And Obama didnt get everything he wanted.
-
Mark my words, Obama's meeting with the Blackhawks today will be used in an attack ad next year. "During a global crisis, Barack Obama was busy meeting with hockey players..."

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) That whirlpool video was amazing and terrifying. That was straight out of Pirates of the caribbean Maelstrom!!!

I find it amazing that the Governors of WI and FL has had such tin ears, and have been completely running on ideology, rather than the will of the people. In WI, people are turning against the governor because he is being seen as a union buster. He isnt willing to negotiate. The reason everyone has been so made at Obama is because he is actually WILLING to work with the other side and not be locked into some hardcore ideology. In FL, the governor rejected the high-speed rail system using false information and distorted facts, despite everyone else (the local county and city governments) wanting the project. When you read between the lines, he basically said he didnt want "big government" money. Of course he didnt say that directly, but he talked around the point.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) Let's have a Soxtalk meet up for the first series! I would love that since i've never met anyone form here, except Mario... but that was before I was on SoxTalk. Goes back to our days at Columbia.
