Just got the call from the place I interviewed with a few weeks back. I did not get the job. They felt I was a very strong candidate for the position and it sounds like I was in the top few finalists. But, he said the person they offered the position to had a little more experience in that kind of position. he said I had a very solid resume/cover letter and that they were very impressed with the interview. He encouraged me to keep applying for positions because "the university would be very lucky to have you here" (or something along those lines). Additionally, another job I interviewed with over a month ago finally got back to me. The position has been filled but he is hoping to grow the department and is keeping me on the top of his list. So, kinda sucks, but also very encouraging at the same time.

@SI_JonHeyman - Word is, #bluejays may spin e-jax to #stlcards if get him from #chisox @DKnobler - I hear if Edwin Jackson, Teahen go to Toronto, good chance they don't stay there (i.e. get flipped to third team). And yes, third team would likely be Cardinals (Rasmus) -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) No, because if a team realized there was demand for either of those players, then someone like the Mariners would just claim them and do the trade themselves. DFAing a player only removes them from the roster. He isnt on waivers unless they place him on waivers. At least that's what Wikipedia told me about Designated for assignment. -

Could they DFA Jackson or Teahen to make room on the roster until the trade is complete? -
@SI_JonHeyman - #cubs offering to pay big bucks to trade zambrano or soriano. Says rival: "they'd have to pay 95 pct."

KW clearly has naked pictures of Reinsdorf or something. "All In" to possible youth movement in 6 months? Someone needs to not keep their job, and it isnt Ozzie. -
@CSNChi_Beatnik - Levelheaded @ScottMerkin feels some1 (has 2 be Lilli) may've been nicked up in BP & De Aza pulled "just in case" Still, needle in a haystack

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) You honestly believe someone had a baby and quit her job to get WIC stamps? I am saying they made the decision knowing full well they'd probably have to use WIC.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) So you know for a fact that this mother isn't staying home because she genuinely loves her child and wants to raise the child until it's ready for public school? You are certain that this mother is going out of her way to be a freeloader? I'm not saying she's going out of her way to be a free loader. I am saying they are using the government program as a way for her to not have to work and stay home with the kids.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) No, f*** that. I'm not saying the system is pointless. But when you actively choose to start a family and quit your job just so you can start getting a check from the government, that's f***ed up. How am I the only one that sees that? I agree. That's mostly my point. The people I know KNEW they wouldnt be making a lot of money with her staying home. He's a new youth pastor, and church work isnt much of a cash cow, trust me, I speak from experience. So, they had to know, going into having kids, that they could not live off of his salary alone.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) THEN DON'T START A f***ING FAMILY in all fairness to my friends, they had their first kid when the economy was still good... or at least better than it is now.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) And don't buy a TV!! Or a microwave!!!! Oh dont get me started on my sister-in-law who has 6 kids (3 of hers, 3 from her BF), he BF is jobless, she is jobless and she used her tax money to by a new 32" flatscreen TV when her current TV was working just fine....
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Isn't using WIC an example of finding a way to make it work? But i get the impression they are using it because she made the CHOICE to stay home, not because she was forced to.
-
I guess the crux of my complaint is that people shouldn't be using the government unless they have a legitimate hardship, not because they made the choice to be a low-income family..

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Absolutely ridiculous. How about not having a kid until they can afford it? The economics of having kids today is insane. Childcare costs are absolutely NUTS (especially newborn care) unless you can find an in-home solution like my wife and I have. My wife and I could afford having two kids because we BOTH have jobs and found affordable in-home care. For some people (like them, a young pastor and a teacher), there may NEVER bee a good time to have kids. But, those that do, should FIND a way to make it work, we did and it hasnt always been easy.
