  1. Good deal for both teams. I still can't comprehend how far Arizona has come in such a short amount of time. They looked done and directionless just a couple years ago.
  2. QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 11:04 PM) Did I miss something? Did you just throw AJ, Pujols, Dunn, Parking, and two World Series championships into a post? I'm impressed. One of us is drinking heavily....I hope. Am I the only one lost here? Unfortunately, that's sober greg. You wouldn't want to witness a drunk greg.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) So my question is ... how many blown saves in a season is acceptable? Didn't Detroit go all year without a blown save? If we go through 2-3 closers, my estimation is we will blow up to nine saves. That means our team is going to suck again. Now if we write it off saying, 'We're rebuilding. It's OK if our closing situation sucks," fine. But "what if" several of our s***ty hitters (of last season) rebound as we are all hoping and the team has a decent offense?? Then the closing situation will cost the team dearly, if you assume Detroit (OR SOMEBODY) in the division could have a closer with 1-2 blown saves ALL SEASON. p.s. I just saw your Reed post. Are we to assume he will only blow 1-3 saves? Just asking. How the hell can one assume how many saves a closer might blow?
  4. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) IMO, I don't think its pretty damn cool to be making jokes about the Penn ST scandal or any child sexual abuse case... If people want to make sick jokes about child sexual abuse, I am sure there are plenty more websites that can fulfill people sick minds but lets talk about the White Sox on this site. Yet you want a "Michael Jackson" night. lol.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 10:04 AM) The funny thing is that in theory, Theo would have agreed with the Rios deal http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...9,0,71568.story At that salary and those guaranteed years? I doubt that's what he meant.
  6. ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein CP3 Trade Latest: Sources tell ESPN com that teams involved in three-team trade blocked by David Stern appealing to NBA to reverse decision OK, I can see the Rockets and OBVIOUSLY the Lakers being upset. The Hornets? Let's recap once again because I'm bored and have nothing else to do. Hornets give up BEST PLAYER IN DEAL BY FAR. They don't get back the non-Paul best player in the deal (Gasol). They take on another $20 million in borderline all-stars and roleplayers, get older, and get ONE pick back that will be in the 20's. WHAT THE f***! Thank god the league has stepped in and intervened.
  7. Just a coincidence Howard's request to the Nets comes after the Paul trade is killed?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) And we gave up nothing to get him. That's because the Padres didn't want anything. They wanted to get out of that contract. KW took the bait. And here we are.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) I'd slit my wrists, but Derrick Rose isn't demanding a trade and refusing to sign an extension in the final year of his deal. Honestly, if I knew Rose was gone, and I could get Odom, Scola, Martin and a late 1st, I'd be happier than entering another situation similar to 99-03. I know that. It was just a hypothetical. I'm just trying to pretend I'm a Hornets fan for a moment. And losing Rose would make a return to the dark ages inevitable, regardless of that weak package.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) And everytime a superstar forces his way out of a small market, it makes it less likely that he will get a superstar to stay in his s***hole of Cleveland. Honestly, you can debate Stern or the leagues motives all you want. But please don't tell me this was a legitimate trade. Could you imagine as a Bulls fan waking up tomorrow: Lakers acquire superstar Rose in 3-way"blockbuster," Odom, Scola, Martin, draft pick in the 20's to the Bulls. We'd be ready to bomb the UC.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) Dan Gilbert needs to realize that these trades make it less likely that LeBron gets a ring. It's not like his Cavs are gonna win anytime soon. So if the Heat had won last year Gilbert wouldn't feel the exact same way? I doubt he gives a s*** about LeBron anymore.
  12. So Paul's now considering a lawsuit against the NBA? dsypaeryphyigjgts. lmao. Dude. THE LEAGUE OWNS THE HORNETS. I REPEAT....THE LEAGUE OWNS THE HORNETS!!! You have no legal foot to stand on. They do not have to trade you if they feel one team is significantly bending over the other. Which was obviously the case.
  13. Hahaha. Not sure if it's true or not. But apparently Chris Paul will not report for training camp. lmao. What a little b****. Go Stern! Can't believe I'm siding with him.
  14. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:58 AM) 3 good starters is "so insignificant" and they should just wait and get nothing? You're not being reasonable. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) Yes, also Goran Dragic. Martin/Scola/Odom/Dragic/#1 (probably around pick 20 since it's a Knicks' pick) So the Lakers get by far and away the best player in the deal and SAVE millions in the process. The Hornets get back roleplayers, two of them in their 30's, and supposedly a draft pick that won't mean s***, and add salary? Yeah, score one for David Stern here.
  15. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:20 AM) What were the better options? Currently? None. It's obvious Paul wants NY or LA. He won't extended anywhere else. But f*** him. He's under contract. They don't have to do a thing. That package is so insignificant that you have nothing to lose either way.
  16. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:13 AM) You said the Hornets had a better offer available in Curry. They didn't. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) * There are much better offers. Stephen Curry for one. But, of course, Paul is not going to sign an extension with GS. That's fine. But that ridiculous Odom/Martin/Scola haul does nothing for the Hornets in the short or long-term. So there's really nothing for them to lose. If Paul wants to sit out a year with no pay, so be it. The league did nothing wrong here. They own the team and nixed a disgrace of a deal. That was me recognizing that it wasn't happening due to Paul not wanting to extend there. That's no excuse to settle for crap.
  17. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:59 AM) Team sources: Golden State Warriors would trade Monta Ellis, not Stephen Curry, for Chris Paul http://www.mercurynews.com/warriors/ci_19492287 OK? Did you read the first paragraph? It was all about Paul signing an extension I don't blame them for not wanting to deal Curry with no assurances that Paul would extend.
  18. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:36 AM) The Hornets are in a position with no leverage. 3 starters is a decent haul. It's not like there are a bunch of other superior offers we're aware of them getting. If Paul wants to hold the Hornets hostage and refuse to play, then punish him. You don't play or get paid this year. Don't punish the Hornets for trying to do what's best for themselves. There are much better offers.
  19. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:22 AM) Is it more reasonable to force them to have Paul for a year and then get absolutely nothing when he bolts? For that trash? Yup. If anything to send a message to these p**** ass players that you're not going to hold us hostage by the balls when you're still under contract. Can you imagine a Hornets season ticket holder being told we just traded a superstar PG in his prime for Lamar Odom and Kevin Martin?
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 02:29 AM) So the NBA has a long lockout, and it comes back an even bigger joke? Nice. You can't just stop a completely reasonable trade on paper because it makes a team good. This sounds like wrestling nonsense (again). Reasonable? lol. Odom is a 32-year old roleplayer. Scola is solid. But nothing close to a building block and he's also 31 or 32. Kevin Martin is a black hole that scores a bunch of points for bad teams and that's it. This trade was awful for NO. No young talent, salary relief or draft picks. You're not going to be able to flip any of that garbage for anything worthwhile.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) Two words: Khloe Kardashian. One word in response to those two words: walrus
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Thing is, aren't the Hornets better off by adding three above average players in Scola/Odom/Martin? I doubt Paul's body will hold up during this 66 game sprint. Chris Paul is arguably the best PG in the game, 26, and in his prime. Two role players and a dime a dozen SG is bad (though I like Martin).
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) Personally, I think it's bogus for the NBA to veto this deal if it's for competitive balance reasons. This shouldn't be fantasy sports where you have to oversee crappy owners. Normally, I wouldn't be whining like I am. But we lost damn near two months of hoops for s*** the lockout was supposed to address.
  24. QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) Please let Kenny in on this secret too... at some point you need some decent position players too with some upside... At least KW pretty much trades pitching for pitching. Marty wants to trade every legitimate position player we have for pitching, leaving us with like 9 Steve Sax's.
  25. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) I like him. He's a corner OF'er who I'd rather turn into a top-of-the-rotation SP prospect. You know, Marty. There's this thing in baseball. I believe they're referred to as runs? You have to score them to win.
