  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) Matusz is terrible! Wtf happened to him?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) Brent Lillibridge is a positive dWAR player, meaning by definition, he is an above average defender. Ozzie backer + advanced metrics = losing proposition
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) What about a 4 month sample size that showed Adam Dunn was the worst hitter in baseball? Why are you constantly ignoring that fact? Not only was he godawful but he was playing every single day for 4 months straight, in the cleanup position. Somehow this fact isn't important to you, your father Ozzie, and your brother Oney. Continuing to march him out there day in and day out was of utmost importance for some reason as he continued to either strikeout or pop out. Look here, Swert - this is all I have to say to you - Using the logic of playing rookies to see their contributions for the remainder of the season is like thinking Dunn or Rios will magically appear also. So it's six of one and seven of the other Take that.
  4. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) I want to revel in this, but can't until Tampa is ahead. Very true. This does bring back horrific memories of our near September collapse in '05. I'd gloss over and enjoy any Red Sox message board you can find and at least revel in their current misery.
  5. Team Ozzie has worn me down. I feel like I'm just post-padding now. It will be a great day when that fool is fired. It will be like when I had my very first 40. I've never been able to replicate that magical moment in my life.
  6. And that's an Orioles winner! Lead down to 1 1/2 games. And the Adam Dunn version of pitching, John Lackey, is going for Boston in game 2.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Well, he doesn't have an appendix now if that's what you mean.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) People don't have a problem with Williams signing him because of his track record, but want the track record ignored in July. Ridiculous. You'd have a point if everybody had been advocating benching him in late April. s***, most everybody thought it was just a matter of time before he came out of it. Then May goes by. He gets worse. Then June goes by. He get more worse. Then July goes by. He gets worser (I know that's not a word). Then August comes and the guy is hitting CLEANUP! Yes, that's ALL on Ozzie.
  9. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) I don't think I stated anything wrong there. It seems that people(not just here, in real life as well) thinking Lilly playing everyday, the sox are going to the playoffs. Which is simple not true.. And how is playing your best UTL man everyday going to help you win? Who replaces him then? That's your perception. Just like it was your perception that, despite only being here a couple weeks, that everybody was picking on Ozzie before you were emphatically proven incorrect. Playing Lillibridge did not guarantee a trip to the playoffs (I can't believe I just typed that). Neither did calling up Viciedo/De Aza. Letting those guys play gave you a better chance to win baseball games. How many? We will never know. Ozzie made certain of that.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) If you are historically bad from one year to the next, the GM should not have signed him. I mean these are professional baseball people who have to notice these things. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? You're giving Ozzie a pass for playing him continuously because of his "track record." Why do you think KW signed him? Because of his sparkling personality?
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) The real issue here is that they are 15 games out. Dunn and Rios don't make that difference up if they have years that are expected and that's with Konerko's MVP-type year. Williams construction of the team was all wrong. lol. You knew this was coming. "Well, they're 15 games out. No one or two changes would've made a difference." I'm sure Rongey has repeated this ad nauseum during the post-game shows.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) That's on the GM for signing him then. Poor scouting. Wait, so it's Kenny's fault for signing him due to poor scouting - yet Ozzie's not at fault for playing him every day for over four months because of, as you said, his "track record?" Ha! That makes perfect sense.
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) Look at Dunn's track record versus Lillibridge. Dunn was signed because of that track record, if he's on the roster he needs to play. '11 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dunn's track record You don't get the benefit of the doubt when you're historically bad. Dunn had more than enough time to pull his head out of his lard ass. He couldn't do it. Other guys were performing, majors and minors, that should've seen a lot more run.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) If only Lastings Milledge got more AB's. People around here need to spend more time watching this game. What does Lastings Milledge have to do with anything?
  15. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) The fact people are stating Lilly would have saved this team is downright laughable. There's that word again. Wanna rethink that? There's a difference between "saved" and putting the best players on the field.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Nobody wanted Lillibridge on the roster in April. Now you're saying he's the savior in August. Unbelievable. And what the fans thought in April is relevant how? The object here was/is to win baseball games. Less Dunn and more Lillibridge gives you a better chance to do just that.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) Seriously? Who else could he have played? I dunno, Lilibridge, Vicedo, me, Hawk, literally anyone other than the player having the worst season in the history of the sport. Is that really an earth shattering revelation to you? I would've played this gentleman in place of Dunn.
  18. I can't take it anymore. I'm personally holding melissa, greg and elrockin responsible for my impending suicide.
  19. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) You do realize, I have been here for 2 weeks, and lingered around maybe 2 weeks prior to joining? I didn't go, research every thread/post when stated that comment. Fair enough. There are a few people here that have been around MUCH longer than two weeks and seem to have this illusion that we despise Ozzie (I know I do) and absolve KW of any blame for the current mess.
  20. Remember this one? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78629 Yeah, we all just pick on Ozzie.
  21. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) And in the "I hate Ozzie" camp, nothing is Kenny's fault.. All the bad roster moves is somehow Ozzie's. Is this Stevie Wonder masquerading as a White Sox fan? Who do you have typing for you?
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) And I'll go to my grave saying that this team wins the 2006 AL Central if Anderson was treated as the everyday starter and not benched for Mackowiak starting in game 2 of the season. I must agree. The '06 offense was potent enough to overcome the automatic out that was Brian Anderson as long as he took care of business in CF. Mackowiak should've been platooning in LF with Podsednik, who was April Juan Pierre bad for most of the second-half of that season.
  23. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) its funny how everyone thinks its that simple. dunn blows and its may, june now july, dont play him. he clearly had to. just like the cubs with soriano and the giants with zito, etc. we arent there to see what ozzie is being told by jerry/kw. and just becuase kw comes out and says play whoever you want doesnt matter the money, yea i dont buy that. im sure ozzie would have loved to bench dunn in may. When has Soriano ever been as bad as '11 Dunn? When has anybody ever been as bad as '11 Dunn? Barry Zito gets lambasted because he's getting paid like an ace when he's anything but. But he's still been, for the most part, a league-average pitcher during his time with the Giants. Adam Dunn defies explanation. He's quite possibly had the worst season of any pro athlete in any sport. I'm not sure how in touch you are with advanced metrics. Do you realize how bad you have to be to sport a -2.7 WAR? And to have him hit clean-up as often as he did? Failure! That's like running me out there intoxicated. That's like Della Reese entering a Miss America Pageant. You know something bad is going to happen. I don't care if Dunn was making minimum wage. He should not have been playing anywhere near as much as he was. That's all on Ozzie.
  24. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) List out those 6 years please. 2006: second-half collapse 2007: 90 losses 2008: barely won the division; dismissed with ease by Tampa. 2009: sub-.500 record 2010: another second-half choke 2011: team-record payroll; 15 games out. That's a whole lot of fail. Especially when the top 3 AL powerhouses are in the AL east.
  25. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) i want ozzie gone but im just not like everyone else, blaming every single sox problem on him, like dunn Yes, because Greg Walker hasn't taken a lick of heat for Dunn's failure. lol. Ozzie gets blamed, rightfully so, for running him out there over and over and over again. It was clear by July that the dude was toxic waste. "But Adam makes $14 million. He got to play no matter what."
