  1. I want to finish 20 games out. That would be kinda cool.
  2. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) if u want to call bringing in ur closer out managed, i guess lol Most managers bring in their closer to start the 9th inning.
  3. Juan about to win us a game wit his legs for once. AJ said nevermind. We're not having that.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Avila deserves some MVP votes In all honestly, he and Peralta are why they're going to the playoffs. You know what Verlander/Miggy are going to do every year. Avila/Peralta have lifted this team from average or slightly above average to elite.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) I think that would be awful cause Mariano >>>>>> Hoffman as a pitcher. It's like comparing Michael Jordan and Reggie Miller. Or Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith.
  6. Lol@Prince Fielder. Dude reminds me of Teddy Ruxpin. What a dumb poll.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) As long as the Tigers win two games the rest of the season, the Sox will have to win out. Seems possible. If the Tigers win just one game, the Sox only have to go 14-1 to take this thing. That's merely a .933 winning percentage, which I think we can pull off since he have yet to hit our real hot streak this season. Take a look at the Tigers' remaining schedule. It's no cakewalk and they're sure to fall apart as they're so prone to do (that one time in 2006). Our destiny is in our own hands. I think as long as we show nothing but support and really get the positive mojo flowing, there's just about nothing that can stop us. Lol@2006. They only got to the World Series that year. I'll take that collapse.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) I'm assuming it's official. I looked at the playoff column in the ESPN.com standings and the Sox are now at 0.00. Cleveland is at 0.01. Not yet. Detroit's magic number is three. They should be officially eliminated before the week is up.
  9. Joe had really come into his own in '06. Off the top of my head, only Scott Rolen was a better all-around 3B at that point (though I'm sure that can be refuted). So sad that he's still suffering from a bum back.
  10. Won't believe until it happens. But KW being retained after the mess he's put this organization in is disgraceful.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) I read the last few responses and enjoyed reading them. I'll resist typing in more stuff cause I'm sure you don't want to hear my rebuttals on this topic any more tonight. Why hold back now? So I ask you - why did Bruce Bochy not play Barry Zito and Aaron Rowand down the stretch and in the postseason last year despite being the two highest paid players on the team?
  12. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) Apparently the Sox operate some bizarro franchise. Rowand and Tejada DFA'd from the same team on the same day, Andruw Jones bought out, Chone Figgins benched, Manny Ramirez given away 2x, Rios given away, Gary Mathews JR benched, Zito benched, and on and on and on....except for the White Sox, who base their playing time on salary and salary only I guess. Ridiculous of course, but only if you don't have an irrational love for a manager who doesn't have a single thing going for him that you can defend anymore. I truly believe Ozzie rather lose 'his' way than win another way. I wouldn't trade '05 for anything. But it's truly hurt us in the long-run. Ozzie thinks he's god's gift to the game of baseball and beyond reprieve because of that one season.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) I definitely can respect your guys' opinion on Ozzie not playing the best players. I agree DeAza/Tank are much better options than Rios/Dunn. I'd go with answer B, but not as forcefully stated as you put it. More like KW just said that, when both he, Ozzie and Jerry know you DO play the guys who make that kind of jack. You still don't get it and probably never will. By your logic, a manager is just supposed to run the highest paid players out there day after day, week after week, month after month and just sit back and watch. Who cares if it's blatantly obvious that said player(s) is sabotaging the season and severely hindering the primary objective - GET TO THE PLAYOFFS! Did Bruce Bochy say to himself, "You know what. Barry Zito is the highest paid player on the team. Sure, he f***ing sucks. But god damnit. I'm gonna make him my game 3 starter because he makes a ton of coin." Of course not. Because Bruce's job is to WIN BASEBALL GAMES. Not play guys that suck over and over and over again because of their salary.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) I'm going to assume the organization felt there was better talent and he was expendable. I don't know about that assumption. Better talent? You mean like when they shipped Rowand/Young out because they thought Brian Anderson was ready?
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) I mean, that is the name of the award and all But you're right, they've given it to players before that never did anything prior to receiving it. I guess it's the same difference between being the Most Valuable Player or just the flat-out best player. I meant if that's the only criteria. Having to have had prior success before experiencing a down year or two. I look(ed) at it as a player that had virtually no success in the big leagues prior to having that breakout season as well. I don't think people realize how good Alex Gordon has been this year. Arguably the second best LF in baseball after that Braun character.
  16. Detroit is now tied with Boston for the second best record in the AL. Only 3 1/2 behind NY.
  17. 12 1/2 out? Who needs change. Bring 'em all back for another run. They've earned it.
  18. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Edwin Jackson 5-2 for St. Louis - he's only had 1 bad outing - Thanks Kenny. You broke my heart when you traded for him then broke my heart again when you traded him Most random post of the month. Jackson didn't even pitch tonight.
  19. Worthless factoid of the night: the Yankees have scored 202 more runs than we have this year.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) Historically the Sox are about .500 vs. Verlander. They used to kill him. Those were the days when we had an AL-style offense.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) But those guys had actually done something in the major leagues before that. Gordon and Morse were just crap since their rookie seasons. Well by that criteria, I agree. Been good, fell off the map for whatever reason, comeback. I've always looked at the award as the NBA's version of the most improved player. Maybe baseball should implement something like that.
  22. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) unreal Unreal? We've seen this all year. I'm officially off the Flowers bandwagon. He Ks too damn much.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Comparing KW the player to Ozzie the player is like comparing Bee Bee Richard the player to Derek Jeter. Um, what? lol. They both sucked.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) You don't think Ozzie resents the fact KW is his boss? Ozzie was a good baseball player; Kenny a nothing. Ozzie has a huge ego like most baseball players do. KW did nothing on the field in Oz's eyes IMO. Ozzie Guillen was terrible at baseball. Just think '11 Juan Pierre for 13 years straight.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) Let's see if Ozzie is a man of his word and keeps quiet if he leaves http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1570904.story Pretty refreshing to get Crede's take on the 2006 season. Pretty much everybody, players, coaches and management, give the same standard bulls*** response. "Our pitchers were tired" or "give the Twins credit" or whatever lame s*** you can come up with. Team was 57-31 at the break. They collapsed (and I don't mean the Soxtalk poster) down the stretch. Much like '05. They just didn't have a 15-game cushion to play with.
