  1. Bad, bad loss for the Rays. Gotta win when you've got your ace going and your opponent has Alfredo Simon going. Looks like the Red Sox's offense is going to will them to the post-season.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) How is that a comeback? QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) You read my mind Balta. What did Gordon come back from? Being bad? Also, this is Morse's full season in the majors, his injuries were back in the minor league days, I don't think that's much of a comeback. Last time I checked, guys don't win the award after winning the MVP or making the all-star team the previous year. Liriano, Giambi, Lee, Lidge, etc., have won the award in the past for, well, sucking ass or doing next to nothing of significance the prior year. If Gordon/Morse aren't worthy, who the hell is?
  3. I'd say Alex Gordon has CPOTY wrapped up. Tremendous season for him. Michael Morse would have to be the NL favorite.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) Red Sox got the lead. What the hell got into Ellsbury? Had no opposite field homers coming into year, now he had a handful over the Monster as well as hitting near 450 foot homers. Also, make sure you check out Juan Francisco's cheap homer vs the Cubs yesterday. Too late. I saw it yesterday on MLB network. Like Thome's walkoff against Thornton last year, that sucker still hasn't landed. And is it me, or do the Reds have two of everything? Catcher, left-fielders, shortstops, second baseman. Would they part with Grandal for Danks? They already have Mesoraco. I pretty much want to acquire pitching for Danks or Floyd. But to get a catcher of that potential would be too much to pass up. Of course this is all fantasy.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) Longoria with a huge homer! This feels like '05 for me. I actually got up and cheered. I hate Red Sox fans more than I hate Cubs fans. I want them to suffer. Brandon Morrow, of course, still sucks.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) I want to see Viciedo start getting more loft in his swing. Hits a ton of ground balls it seems. Yeah, he does hit the ball on ground a little bit too much.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) I'll take whatever I can get. I've trashed Morel for the last couple months. He's been pretty good since the break. I hope it continues. As bleak as things look right now, there are some bright spots. Morel, Viciedo, De Aza, Sale and Reed. But Ozzie has to f***ing go. If not Ozzie then KW. Or at the very least Walker. We cannot come back with this same coaching/management team.
  8. I'm actually excited about this game. Viciedo, Flowers, De Aza and Brent Longoria errr Morel are all in the lineup. And worst-case scenario we get shut-down by the no-doubt-about-it- best pitcher in baseball for 2011.
  9. I f***ing hate Brandon Morrow. Some of the sickest stuff in the league and he perpetually underachieves. And the Rays are being stymied by Alfredo Simon.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 06:49 PM) It's a legitimate question. On one side of the coin are those who say Ozzie has created an environment of complete "non-accountability." So we are to believe the players fought back "just enough" to keep their manager in his position but not enough to win th division? If the entire clubhouse just went completely south...wouldn't we have seen some type of "death spiral" down to 20-25 games below .500, as has happened two times with the Twins this year? Caulfield, it was playoffs or bust this season. Save that respectability crap. That's for losers that are easily satisfied (not saying you or anybody here is a loser). Our payroll + this division should've meant a playoff birth. Or at the VERY LEAST meaningful baseball right until the end. We were done two weeks ago.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) And Ozzie Guillen has not lost this team? Of course not. 5 missed Octobers in 6 seasons in a division that does not include Boston, NY and now Tampa Bay has certainly had nothing to do with Ozzie's managerial skills.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) Is the reason to believe he will get better the same reason Josh Fields and Jerry Owens were only going to get better? Aren't you dissin' your boy with this post?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Totally different feel with how Tigers beat us compared to how Twins used to. Tigers just hit the hell out of the ball, while Twins would bloop the crap out of it. Agree with you here. In the past with the Twins you always had this 'What the f***? How did we let these guys get the best of us again?" type of feeling. Detroit has left no doubt that they are the class of this division. Best pitcher and position player in the division by far; extremely underrated supporting cast.
  14. Lol@Betemit. I want Walker gone. But that's reaching there.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) And the offense has way more question than that, especially if you assume a low case scenario like you did for pitching. Konerko gone, AJ gone, Flowers and Dunn K machines. Rios lazy and uncaring. Beckham struggling, Ramirez plateaued. Morel no power etc, etc. The difference here is that we're stuck with Dunn, Rios and Konerko. Flowers/Morel have no trade value. You couldn't get a can of SPAM for Beckham right now. At least with a couple of our pitchers you could get some good value for them before it's too late. Oh, and I'm of the thought process that if we're trading pitching we need to get pitching in return.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Like I said, even if you are of that thought process, we have much more pitching than we do position players. That's assuming Sale can hang as a starter and at least one of Humber/Stewart can prove to be at least a rotation back-end. Mark is a FA. Danks will be a FA. Peavy is hopefully gone after 2012. That leaves Floyd for 2013 and nothing in the pipeline. I can see where Marty is coming from.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) In terms of what needs to be fixed with this team, it is twisted to think that the pitching years down the road is anywhere near the top of the list right now. I actually like the way he's thinking. And I hope whoever supersedes KW as GM is of that exact mindset. We've done the 'Screw the future, let go for it' thing for the last 6 years with one playoff win and a whole lotta bank spent to show for it.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) I just think this pitching staff as presently constituted has run its course. It's not an elite staff. In hindsight it was a staff put together predicated on Peavy being a #1 guy. When that didn't happen the rest of the group just wasn't good enough to pick up the slack. I kinda agree with what you're saying as long as you're not expecting a quick-fix. Like Balta said, you're probably looking at guys in low A/High A with risk but a ton of upside. So either way, you're going to have a lot of question marks in the rotation next year and in 2013. You'll just have a better long-term inventory.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Well, Hudson for Jackson was a short-sighted move if I've ever seen one. And trading Gio for a second time was just plain recklessness.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Yep. Pitching, Quentin, Ramirez. That's fine. But you do realize whatever pitching we potentially could acquire for any of the guys you want dealt would not be major-league ready, right? We're not getting a Drew Pomeranz, Matt Moore or Julio Teheran.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) The position players are for the most part locked in. They are either young enough to deserve more time or have contracts that will keep them here. Like I said in another thread, the Sox are are a little over one year away from having a rotation of Sale, Floyd, Humber, Stewart. Scary. So I take it you want to deal pitching for younger/cheaper pitching?
  22. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) But when it comes to Ozzie Guillen 800 topics is nowhere near enough to contain Soxtalk's seething rage. Quit being so damn mad Steve, holy s***. lol. The guy's been here 26 minutes and he's referring to himself in the third person and getting smart with mods. Why am I the only one seeing what's happening here?
  23. C'mon, mods. It's a sad day when J4L has to be smarter than you guys. It's pretty clear who Boznoo is.
  24. I'll take whatever I can get at this point. Two 2 HR games in less than a week is something to get excited about.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) Milkman hates my posts so he ignores me. There's an ignore button. The Internet world is bizarre. I assume Milk is a very successful person; Whether he believes it or not, I do well enough as well. In real life I have friends and family and all that. It begs the question: If I met Milkman would he punch me? Would he tackle me? Would he run the other way? All because of Internet banter? It would take an awful lot for me to get tri;u worked up over anything any of you post on here. lol. I don't think it's that serious. You're fine, greg. A little strange. But strange is good.
