Congratulations on #2000, Pierre

Only 3 weeks left of well below league-average production absorbing nearly 700 PAs a year. -
Kershaw vs Lincecum tonight. Kershaw could potentially wrap up the CY award with a dominant performance.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Tangible fact: He's 3rd in baseball in outs made. Who cares how many at bats he has? That was fun. s***, who's made more? I was sure he was leading in that category. -
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) Here is my question, how much does a hitting coach matter, versus talent. How much was made of Cubs getting the Texas hitting coach last year... And then did they hit? Did he really matter that much? And did Texas hurt from losing the guy? lol. Damn. DA created another account.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) Because you don't care to verify if the empirical evidence actually backs up your assumptions. Don't worry, I'll do the due diligence later with his gamelog. All I know is his SB% is well below the 70% threshold that determines the guys who actually contribute with their legs in that department or just give away outs. That's plenty for me. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) 5 months is a little component of the season? You're being ludicrous. So you're saying he's only attempted to steal 21 times the last 5 months? Then he's still worthless. Because attempting so few means, again, that he's no longer a legitimate base-stealer. I'm assuming your numbers are correct, as I don't feel like looking them up. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) You tell me. He's improving what more do you want from him ? Just like Beckham improved the second-half of last year. What do I want from him? Carry this into the BEGINNING of next season. Not 4 months into the season.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) You just said he was incapable of getting into scoring position. Perhaps you'd like to clarify that point. Again, you're trying to use a a couple weeks to mask an entire season. One of these days you will realize that a baseball season is 6 months and you can't break up every little component of the game, team or individually, into splits to suite your purpose. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) I just updated his post ASB numbers .279/.319/.434 OPS .753 . Those numbers would be fine over the course of a full season. Great, actually.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Wow, are you really this desperate to exaggerate? Juan has stolen 16 of his last 21 attempts. How much higher of a percentage do you want than that? He stole second and third just the other night. He essentially duplicated his exact career numbers in May. I'm not sure what standard you are using or how you define "decent". I would say that he had a "good" month by his standards. I wonder if Pierre is having one of the best second halves of his career. Scratch that, I don't wonder it - it's pretty self-evident. Paul Konerko had a .244 July. Every player has at least one off month over a 6-month season. You're the one that keeps trying to break the season up into multiple intervals to make your points. 16 for his last 21? So that means he was, what, 9 for 20 before that? JP is nowhere near the SB threat he once was. This is not up for debate. And with his subpar defense, you have a below average baseball player that just happens to lead the team in plate appearances because of a brain-dead manager. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) Good job Juan. There is no reason to bash Juan Pierre. We need 24 more with his work ethic and he gives you everything he has to give. Great role model I think for the youger players. Most likely not here next year, but I bet he doesn'r complain or have anything bad to say about the Sox if and when he goes somewhere else. What the hell is with the bolded? Who has ever claimed Juan was a bad guy or that he doesn't work hard? This has become a recurring theme of late. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) My points exactly except I think he has earned it if you consider defense which you did not. A few weeks ago when he had 1 HR I predicted in a post he would finish with 5. He now has 5 .His post ASB numbers are decent so I would give him more than the last week or so. He could be Brooks Robinson defensively. His offensive production has to dramatically improve to justify him playing every day. Does he have to be Longoria, Wright or Zimmerman? Of course not. Does he have to be Adrian Beltre? No. But Ty Wiggington/Adam Kennedy-like production will not suffice.

QUOTE (bozzie @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Despite Lillibridge's misfortune, this is really a blessing in disguise, as it gives Ozzie more opportunities to play Adam Dung, who has been unfairly relegated to the bench in recent weeks. Now Dung can finally show us all what he's made of! If playing Adam Dunn is a blessing in disguise I'd hate to see what a curse is. Edit. I just realized you were being sarcastic. lol.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) Hmmm. Juan had a s***ty April, and he might have cost us 1-2 games, but it seems to me that the bullpen and other factors had much more to do with it. No, Juan was little-league embarrassing in April. He Had a decent (by his standards) May. He was s***ty again in June. He's played about as well as he's capable of playing since the break. But as has been reiterated ad nauseum, his skill-set is so limited that even a .285 BA doesn't contribute much in terms of run production. Now if he were stealing bases at his career clip, he'd be much more valuable. Right now? It takes at least two singles or a minimum extra basehit to knock him in because he's incapable of getting in scoring position on his own. -
Brent Morel hasn't "earned" anything. He's been well below average offensively (though he's produced well the last week or so) even in a year in which 3B production is down all over baseball. He'll get another shot next year. Not because he deserves it. But because there's nobody that's a threat to him. Certainly nothing in our minor league system. And the only two free agents worth a damn are Ramirez, and we're certainly not going to make a play for him, and Edwin Encarnacion, who's had a very solid year as a cheap FA signing in Toronto. The Blue Jays have a club option on EE. I imagine they'll bring him back.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) J4L, Would the Angels really want A.J.? Their fans still boo him for the 2005 ALCS. Didn't even think of that. Just looked at the fact their C situation is rather dire and they're one of the few teams that could/would take on his salary. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) If the Phillies take care of business, it could be a NLDS preview. The D-Backs are suddenly only 2.5 back of the Brew Crew. Good stuff. Didn't realize zona was that close.

lol. Get outta here. Why would I throw saves/save% in there as two of the categories (I have no idea why I said save%, as that stat sucks) if I didn't mean as the closer?
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) You were cutting it kind of close here... I'm fairly positive (without looking) that Thornton does have a better K-rate, WHIP, and FIP. And IMO, those are the only stats of the 5 that actually showcases talent. Damn. I forgot about that. But he had to do this as the closer. Lol.

Jordan4life_2007 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) AJ is not the reason for the lousy year that the Sox had. Primary culprits are the two clowns in the middle of the batting order (Rios/Dunn) and the GM who got them. When it became obvious the Sox were not going anywhere, I was hoping for a minor overhaul, and we had a start with moving Jackson, Teahan and finally bringing up DeAza, Flowers, and Viciedo. With Giants missing their great catcher Posey, yet still contending, I was hopeful that we could make a deal with them for AJ. After what the Giants gave up for Beltran, we could have gotten something significant, or so I thought last July. How do you figure they would've given up something significant for AJ? Yeah, he would've been an upgrade over what they currently have in place. But you weren't getting any impact player for a couple months of AJ at his salary.
