Aj doesn't plan on giving up playing time

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) I like how you went through all that trouble to make a point. Well done sir. Well I didn't think a synopsis was necessary. Most situations should be obvious. But I'll play: Orioles? Wieters Yankees? Russell Martin and multiple catching prospects that are close. Rays? Would never take on that salary. Red Sox? They have arguably a better catcher in Saltalamacchia at a fraction of the cost. Jays? J.P Arencibia; Travis D'Arnaud in the minors. Indians? Santana Twins? Mauer and if not Mauer, do you really think they want AJ back? Tigers? Avila Royals? Makes no sense for them and they're going to give Salvador Sanchez every chance to prove himself. Indians? Santana Rangers? Napoli/Torrealba Angels? Missed this one. MAYBE they'd have interest. A's? Suzuki Mariners? Olivo Braves? McCann Phillies? Ruiz Nationals? Ramos Marlins? Buck Mets? Paulino/Thole Cardinals? Molina Brewers? Lucroy Reds? Hernandez; multiple elite catching prospects in the minors Cubs? Soto and they would never trade for him anyway Pirates? Makes no sense Astros? Makes no sense D-backs? Montero Giants? Posey Rockies? Ianetta Dodgers? Barajas and wouldn't touch AJ's salary Padres? Wouldn't touch his salary and makes no sense for them -
QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) You're not getting it.. basically what I got from what he said was that he asked people he knows, where he lives, that aren't Sox fans what they think about Ozzie.. No, I would not believe Greg hit the streets to ask the random people he saw about Ozzie and the White Sox situation.. that would be ridiculous.. Yeah, he doesn't really specify if he was just chatting with some friends of his on-line or if he actually went out and asked around. I never know with him. Either way, whoever he talked to apparently agreed with him. Now he's using that as some kinda parameter as to why Ozzie is not as bad as Soxtalk makes him out to be. That's unquestionably ridiculous.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) I think catching is the least of our problems. AJP is not a problem. Maybe pitchers who can't control the running game are? The cathcer and pitcher must work together. We have seen some improvement from Tyler Flowers this year, but I am not ready to annoint him our new back stop. I remember it wasn't that long ago when folks were calling for his head and saying he would never make it at the big league level. He could really benefit from another year workig with AJP. Catching is one hard position to find good position players let alone quality ones. AJP brings a lot of good to this team It's infinitely more important for the long-term prognostication of this franchise to find out if Tyler Flowers is legit and can handle the most physically demanding position on the field. I'm not saying bench AJ. But he should not be catching 5-6 days a week until Tyler proves himself unfit. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) This is interesting. I was already thinking that if Ozzie does end up in Florida, he would probably bring back Juan Pierre with him. Pierre won a ring with the Marlins before, so he might get a hero's welcome back - especially if he keeps playing like he has been the past couple of weeks. AJ to the Marlins with Ozzie and Pierre? Hmmm... They've already got John Buck signed through 2013 at $6.5 million a year. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) Catcher is a thin market though, probably the thinnest position out there. $6 million is a lot, but there are some really, really bad catchers out there. That being said, AJ makes AJ about impossible to deal. I agree that there are worse catchers out there than AJ. But those teams, the Rays for example, aren't about to pick up that salary. Other teams that come to mind, the Astros for example, are YEARS away from competing for anything. What logical reason would they have to trade for AJ? -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) I know he'll be back next year. I was wondering about the year after. So, after going back and reading your analysis, I would say that no team would sign him as their starting catcher for 2013. So, does he re-sign with the Sox as the back-up? Would a team sign him when he hits FA? No doubt. That's totally different. You're not giving up any talent and you're certainly not paying him $6 million a year. -

That really wasn't my intent. Just wanted to hammer home that the market for a 35-year old defensively-challenged catcher with minimal pop/on-base skills that's owed $6 million bucks next year is not a strong one. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) Eh. I can't take the same two or three arguments all day, every day, and decided to do something about it. No one posts any kind of content anymore. Its all about who sucks, who should get fired, and who sucks most. That makes for awful discussion and it shows. It is the reason I barely post in the filibuster anymore. Hey, I appreciate the twitter updates. But C'mon now. Doug Tanis and the turf award? Even you have to admit that's a bit of a stretch.
-
lol@2K5. You're getting ridiculous now. Balta is not gonna catch you (that is unless I decide to become a regular in filibuster). So don't worry.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) I really like AJ, and he's done tremendous things for this team. But I like what I'm seeing from Flowers so far. At a minimum, I agree that Flowers has to get more time next year than Castro has gotten in the past. I wonder how much time AJ has left. I suppose he could be converted to a 1B, but that doesn't solve anything to keep him in Chicago, unless they get real creative and split time between Konerko, AJ, Dunn, and Flowers. I don't see that happening. Do you think there are any teams that would sign AJ after next season to be their primary catcher? I don't know. He'd be 35 and doesn't throw batters out well. But he's a workhorse, has an okay bat, and calls a great game. I would think the Sox would like to keep him after next season only if he became the back-up, and I don't see AJ wanting to do that. Let's see: Yankees? No Red Sox? No Jays? No Rays? No Orioles? No Indians? No Tigers? No Twins? No Royals? No Rangers? No A's? No Angels? No Mariners? No On to the NL: Braves? No Nationals? No Marlins? No Phillies? No Mets? No Cubs? No Cardinals? No Reds? No Pirates? No Brewers? No Astros? No Giants? No Rockies? No Diamondbacks? No Dodgers? No The conclusion? A.J. will be back next year. -
Was just going through yesterday's BA chat transcript with Jim Callis. Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 04:15 AM) He didn't say random people, I assume he meant he asked people he knows in KC or wherever he is at.. somewhere round there I thought Tru, you are not that gullable. Greg is my guy. But I don't believe he went out and asked fans why a White Sox message board hates Ozzie. Like they would be able to tell him a damn thing. lol.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 07:11 AM) JR should consult with those people on all his moves. You really value opinions of those that see him 4 or 5 times a year vs. people who see him every single day? You yourself have called for his head. Stop playing games, Dick. You know you yourself have gone out of your way to ask fans outside of Chicago what their opinion is of Greg Walker and why a message board you post at deems him unfit. You know it. Ha.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) I've been talking to a lot of baseball fans outside of Chicago and ask them what their perception is of Ozzie Guillen. They all say that he is a good manager. I ask them all if they can understand why a message board I frequent wants him fired and believes he will be fired. They say, 'No.' If we finish .500, folks, Ozzie being fired will be perceived as unfair nationally. lol. Oh man you lyin'. You did not go out and ask random people why Soxtalk doesn't like Ozzie.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 11:56 PM) It's dangerous to think Humber and Stewart are great options. Are they just Kyle Davies clones as we enter an era where we are the new Royals? No offense to them. They've been great, but they could open next season throwing BP. They have no track record of greatness.
-
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) Ok, I'll say that by boring I mean I really like most of their players but together I expect them to win and can't root for them in any way. Don't care to, or get any enjoyment out of watching them play because they are just an all star team masquerading as an NL East team. That's fine. I interpreted you saying "least fun team" as they were boring. Not that you hate them because they're so good.

I don't see this being reported anywhere. Don't tell me Steve pulled another LeBron/Bosh debacle. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Peyton done for the year. Ouch -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I might be saying otherwise if the White Sox had that kind of talent, but the Phillies are the least fun team in baseball. One of the great starting staffs of the last quarter century. Last I checked, Rollins, Utley, Howard, Victorino and Pence weren't classified as boring players. Gotta be a little more specific than "least fun team in baseball."
-
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) I'm getting kind of antsy as to who our 5th OF will be in 2014 My guess would be Jared Mitchell.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Hamels and Victorino both hit Free Agency after 2012, and the Phillies already have $80 million committed for 2013 to just 4 guys. I know. I don't think Hamels is going anywhere. Brown is definitely a good enough athlete to play CF if Victorino departs. Of course, there's more to it then just being an athlete. And deep playoff runs every year, as you know, = $$$$. Who knows how much fatter their payroll is gonna get.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) The pitching staff needs to be addressed this offseason or they are looking at a Indians-like rebuilding period beginning in 2013. Yet you want to trade Danks, Floyd, Santos and Sale in one offseason?
-
I'm having a really hard time distinguishing who the hell is being sarcastic or not.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Halladay, Lee, Howard, Utley, Rollins, and Oswalt are all getting up there. Thing is Halladay and Lee have shown no signs whatsoever of slowing down. They look as if they have at least another 2-3 years of dominance left in them. Howard is only 31. That's by no means old, not for a 1B anyway. You're right about the other three. That middle infield, while still productive, is very fragile. And Oswalt is just about done. But then you've got Hamels, Victorino, Pence, Worley (obviously I'm not sure if he's legit), Mayberry, Bastardo, Brown all 30 and under. So it evens out.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) The Phillies have the oldest average roster in MLB by a non-trivial margin. What's the average age for the guys that matter? Like Raul Ibanez is gone after this year and Jose Contreras is a FA after this year, I think? And the way their system produces, they get the benefit of the doubt. Just this year alone they've had John Mayberry Jr. sport an .844 OPS, Vance Worley go 11-1, and Antonio Bastardo produce a .110 BAA and 232 ERA+. The system ultimately produced a 28-year old star in Hunter Pence. Dominic Brown can't even get a chance because they're so loaded.
