QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 08:31 PM) he is going to make me decide between him and Romero for keeper league. I moved that to the DC. Didn't mean to post it here. -
Matt Moore with 11 Ks in 5 innings against the Yankees. Ladies and gentlemen - meet the AL version of Clayton Kershaw.
-
I'll say one thing for DA. At least he's not trying to give Walker credit for Morel's hot month. At least I don't think he has. If so then he loses all credibility.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:30 PM) I've rarely had the motivation to even browse Soxtalk these last few months, but I've taken notice of Balta's shift in demeanor. He's much more critical of this team. Not that any of it isn't justified, but coming from him I'm not used to it. For anyone not around that often it's even more noticeable. 2k5 has been even more noticeable. I went 'dark' after last year's disappointment. Looks like their boiling point was this year's fiasco. -

I think I've agreed with SS2K5 and Balta more in the last month (mainly since Victory registered) than I have in the last two years combined. I don't like this at all. I would join filibuster (that would make things normal again). But that could get ugly - aka the Gordon Beckham gay thread. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) KW doesn't acquire those players offensively, but Carlos Quentin was a guy who probably was the MVP in 2008 if he doesn't get hurt. He made Aaron Rowand a ton of money. When he took over in 2003 Paulie was hitting like Adam Dunn without the whiffs. CQ's problem was/is always been injuries. I don't think Walker deserves a whole lot of credit for '08. If he does, he deserves blame for how mediocre/inconsistent he's been the last three years.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Brooks Boyer should tell Hawk to stiffle the "race for second place" crap. If second place in the AL Central is any reason to celebrate even a little bit, no wonder the Sox are a dissappointment. I just wish it was easy to flip-flop teams. I feel bad saying that. I'm just not wired that way. Afterall, I did get a World Series title at age 22. All the s*** I talk about not watching this team next year and following the Nats and Blue Jays is just that - talk. I hate myself. I will punish myself with a shot of Brandy. -

Wait a minute? Humber gave up two first inning runs? How come Cooper gets no blame? How? How you f***s? /Dick Allen -
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Sometimes it's better just to be bad. It's easier to take. So we can finally give the '11 White Sox credit for something?
-
lol. Cardinals fans have that '03 Cubs I've just seen a ghost look on their faces.

And that's a Cardinals season. God-like choke by their bullpen. They won't recover from this loss. Somebody prayin' for the Braves.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Thanks MB for years and WS title, time is now to finish your dreams and pitch for STL next year. Not happening. Their rotation is set next year. All of their funds are going towards resigning that 1B. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) Don't see any anger over Dunn playing. Doesn't mean quite as much when you're 14 games out with 7 to play. -
a "successful season" in the major leagues

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) You must have taken Greg off ignore. What's the point? You can see whatever he says through everybody else. This I did not know. So I can't ignore wite when I get ready to. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) That also ignores the fact that A-Gon & Tex have very similar contracts from 2012 on. Also, you are excluding Crawford/Drew on one side, while not including Cano or Grandy on the other side. How much does Posada even play anymore anyway? I didn't ignore anything. I said more than once that other than Crawford, they've gotten elite-level production for market or well below market value from all of their top guys. I don't really include Drew because he hasn't played. Gonzo? Yes, I fully recognize that starting next year he'll be getting paid. Again, I'm talking this year. Posada has nearly 400 PAs. So he's not just riding the bench. You're right about Cano/Granderson.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) J.D. Drew was injured quite often before his Red Sox days. I realize that. I was talking just this year. From '07 to '09, Drew produced an .875 OPS and sound defense. He's been hurt the last couple years. Yeah, they're paying for him. But he's not one of the reasons their offense is as good as it is. Ortiz: $12.5 million Youk: $12.250 million Gonzo: $6.3 million Pedroia: $5.75 million Ellsbury: $2.4 million That's five regulars producing at an all-star to MVP level for less than $40 million. Pay-Rod, Tex, Jeter, Swisher, and Posada are making damn near $100 million. Now that's the team in which you could say, "Well, look at what they're paying for that offense." Not the Red Sox.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) You use it against Dunn, Rios, and Peavy. Peavy? He was injured when we traded for him and just about every minute since then. And how many times have Dunn and Rios been on the DL this year?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Drew is injured every year. How can you excuse something that happens annually? I'm not excusing it. But how can you use that against them? Drew was a monster in '09 when healthy. He's been banged up since then. Point is for the guys doing the bulk of the damage for them THIS year, they're making pennies on the dollar.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Take away Adam Dunn and his $14 million and I bet the White Sox offense looks like a pretty decent bargain as well. Yeah, instead of third worst it'd be fourth/fifth worst? SS2K5 said for the money they're making, the Red Sox offense should be held to a different standard. Drew has been on the DL since like June. So that's just sunk cost. Ortiz, Gonzo, Youk, Ellsbury and Pedroia, you know, the reasons their offense is so damn good, are making less than $40 million combined this season. For three legitimate MVP candidates, a perennial all-star and the most productive DH in the league, that's peanuts. Crawford has been the only offensive bust.
-
Konerko's opinion means s***. This has been the third worst offense in the AL all season long. The situational hitting (mainly runner(s) in scoring position and less than two outs) has been deplorable. This team flat did nothing well offensively this year. How does the hitting coach assume no blame? Ship his ass out.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) What are you talking about? Don't even compare the minors to the majors. You have no idea what Walker's role has been in Morel's turnaround. Team Ozzie is getting desperate now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I want Mark signed to a Tim Wakefield like deal. $10 million a year, renewed until he wants to retire. That'd be ideal. Especially the way Mark obsesses over retirement (the one thing I can't stand about him). -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Geez, I just read that if Scrubs opt in and Ramirez opts out, then the Scrubs get two high draft picks when he signs elsewhere. This would be right up Kenny's alley. Please, KW, don't do it. Do you really think Jerry is going to give Kenny a blank check this time around? KW's going to have to get back to raiding other organizations for failed/underachieving guys, major and minors, as it will be a while before the club signs another big-name FA.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) I quickly counted up about $82 million spent on their offense this year not counting minimum salary guys, and about the same amount spent on their pitching staff (more if you break Matsuzaka's posting fee into yearly increments) Take away J.D. Drew (who hasn't played in months) and his $14 million and you're at $68 million. That's more than a reasonable sum for the production they're getting (save for Crawford).

Morel last 28 days slash - .253/.366 /.532 /.897
Jordan4life_2007 replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This wreaks of September Joe Crede in '02. He went nuts that last month. A .725ish OPS from Morel next year is a reasonable expectation.
