  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) Just want the team to finish the season with their heads up and do their best, which I trust they will. Last night was disappointing to say the least. Only spark was in the 9th I am now convinced you are not a real person. I don't know what you are yet. But you're not a human being.
  2. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) Sorry, but if Dunn didn't crap his pants and Peavy and Rios where at least decent, no one would be talking about any of this.. This board is sending me into convulsions. We've got DA who says Greg Walker is by no means responsible for anything that's gone wrong with the White Sox offense. Tex is saying as long as KW provides us with a paper champion in March that his job is completed and anything that happens after that is none of his concern. And now TRU is saying that because Ozzie has had bad players this year (I guess Ozzie is the only manager in the history of baseball that's ever had players underperform?) that he is absolved of all blame for this disaster of a season. Well there you have it. White Sox baseball: where infinity-like job security happens!
  3. The more Dunn plays the better chance we have of losing. I like it.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) But no one looks back on Patterson and says "boy, if only he didn't get hurt..." Getting injured didn't destroy his career, not being a good hitter did. And once again that's not what I implied. The original promise that many had for him as a prospect was on full display during the '03 season. Whatever happened after that is moot. But for a little while, there was something there.
  5. QUOTE (SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) That is precisely what I meant. I never saw any real promise in Corey Patterson or Felix Pie, just "hope." I do see "promise" in Castro, yet I have little hope. I guess we'll see what his ceiling is when he hits the wall. Or something like that. To be fair, Patterson was a beast in '03 until he got hurt - which led to the acquisition of Kenny Lofton. So there was definitely something there that ultimately didn't last.
  6. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) This is what I don't get about all of the Ozzie supporters. All of you are more or less saying that the manager doesn't matter but you will perform some incredible mental gymnastics to defend Ozzie. Look, you can't have it both ways. Either Ozzie deserves some accountability and actually influences the outcome of the game or we should hire a traffic cone to be manager. :notworthy
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) The sox are bad, but they ain't catchin Houston, Baltimore, KC, Seattle, Minnesota. Doubt that'll catch the Cubs, Padres, Florida, Pirates and Nats either. s***, you're right. Some of these teams are worse than I thought. I'd say seven of those teams are lock to finish with a worse record. The Nationals, Pirates each have 64 wins to our 67. It doesn't matter. You know will win 13 of our last 17 and Hawk, Merkin, Ranger, elrockin, etc, will use that as a reason to bring this bunch back for '12.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) Here's a pre-game quote from Ozzie. As for players not ready to play tomorrow, maybe you should have had them ready to play tonight. Having Sunday's game moved to an 8 p.m. (Eastern time) start was not exactly what the Sox wanted in the first place, given Monday's day-night doubleheader in Minnesota, but Guillen insisted on a no-whining zone about the team's plight. "I don't want to hear any complaints either when we go to play two games in Minnesota," he said. "Get another job. If you think this is tough, try to do somebody else's job. "We get paid very well, we have a great life, then the least we can do is play a day-night doubleheader. Anybody on my club is not ready to play two games, make sure you let me know. I have people here who are ready to play." Wow, I actually agree with Ozzie totally there.
  9. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) I'm not sure that's a win, win situation either. I heard on the radio where a person said the Sox basically draft for making trades anyway. There's always potential for getting another Brain Anderson, Josh Fields, Brent Morel. IF they happen to be successful, well...Walker will fix them. The farm needs to be restocked. Worry about trades and such later. And if Ozzie and/or KW is gone you might see a different philosophy, anyway.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:27 PM) 35 runs in three games with our 3 best pitchers on the mound. But remember, teams fear facing us in the postseason!! You know Dick Allen is loving this. At this point, EVERYBODY is fair game.
  11. I love it. Just give up. I mean the team. I don't want to see any meaningless 12-4 finish to the season. Keep losing and losing and losing. A top 10 pick or slightly better is there for the taking.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) I'm not a fan of trying to make a joke out of this. You really need to get out more. Your ass is wound wayyyyyyy too tight.
  13. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) Yes, I'm talking about the next three years still. I don't think they will make the playoffs in any of those years. There are three better teams in their division with three even better upsides still. And I'm sure before '08 you never thought Tampa could win 2 of the next three division titles in that division.
  14. Give me Dave Martinez and do whatever you've got to do to get Friedman from Tampa.
  15. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) What do you mean by upside? They have more offensive talent. They won't make the playoffs and therefore, can't win a championship. We can, if we get hot at the right time. What? This season is shot for both teams. I mean going forward. Do you want to say they have the harder road to travel? Yes. They're in a MUCH tougher division. But simply looking at the the players, majors and minors, current contract statuses and overall payroll obligations, it's not close.
  16. Jose Bautista just hit HR #40. That's 102 HRs since September of '09.
  17. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) The blue jays are the second worst team in their division, and will likely remain there for the next 3 years. I said upside. There's no way anybody can look at the two organizations right now and say we have more upside than them.
  18. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Can you please tell me why you consider the angels a rebuilding effort? Didn't they pick up vernon wells before this year? I think they were hoping to compete for a title, not rebuild. Yeah, I didn't get that one, either. Not to mention they traded for Dan Haren last year. They have had a really good year in infusing legitimate youth from within, though. Mark Trumbo, Peter Bourjos, Mike Trout and Jordan Walden. Still doesn't constitute anywhere near a rebuild.
  19. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) More than those two organizations, yes. The Bluejays have infinitely more upside than the Sox. The Orioles flat suck. Though I'd give up Doritos for Matt Wieters. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) Build around Peavy, Rios, Dunn, Konerko, and Buehrle. Trade Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Ramirez, Thornton and Santos. I just threw up. There's no way that's viable.
  20. Couple random thoughts: Hunter Pence is good. I mean really, really good. You knew once he got out of that hell-hole in Houston he would truly flourish. Joe Maddon should be MOTY. I've been saying this for a while. 13 games over .500 in that division when going into the season you basically had Longoria, Price and 23 questions marks is unbelievable.
  21. elrockin's best-case scenario is essentially to bring back the entire 25 man roster, GM and coaching staff because changing just to change is a lateral move.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) Yeah, but you end it still friends right? And it's not personal. Winning changes everything. Maybe 2012 becomes the make or break for Ozzie, the coaches and KW What planet are you from? Now 2012 is the make or break year? And when that bombs will 2013 be the make or break year? Jesus.
  23. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) When I think of 'rebuild' I think of two types: - planned - unplanned Unplanned rebuilds occur when a team sucks for several consecutive years... resulting in a wave of young talent due to draft picks. The only teams I can think of that intentionally go through a planned rebuild are the ones that are forced to financially. And most of these are small-mid market teams that can't afford signing their better players once they hit free-agency, so they have to trade them for potential and start over. Somebody help me out with a couple of examples of larger market teams that have done complete planned rebuilds. Rangers come to mind. They're not where they are now because of a bunch of top 5 picks. Nolan Ryan came in and totally changed the culture there.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) His floor cannot be higher than his current performance. The "Floor" for a player is the lowest performance level you can get from that player. According to your use of the term, he is playing well below his floor right now. This is nonsense. It renders the term "Floor" meaningless. Well I didn't mean current performance. So in that sense it was the wrong word to use. He's not far off from Alexei now. All I was saying that if he maxes out, he's better than Alexei. And that if he doesn't max out, yet still shows improvement, nothing drastic, just natural improvement from 21-22, 22-23 and so on, he's pretty much as good as Alexei. If he doesn't improve, then yeah, he's not as good as Alexei.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) I think you are failing to understand the definition of "Floor". I understand it perfectly. I didn't say Castro was a better all-around player right now. I think he will improve in all aspects. Said poster said that even if he "maxes" out, he won't be any better than Alexei. He doesn't have to max out to be that good. He's not that far off now.
