QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) Not everyone but I won't take you so literally. I've even recently seen a few posts that keeping him down was the right thing to do. Yahoo!, fangraphs and baseball prospectus was all over it like two months ago. Who the hell was saying keeping him down was the right thing to do? Guys like Jennings, Kipnis, Ackley, Hosmer, Alonso, etc, all got called-up, yet Dayan was supposed to toil in the minors?

8/30 GT - SOX vs Twins - 7:10pm CDT - CSN

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) I think he'll be starting next year. I'm sure they'll go that route next year. I just can't see it lasting. He just does not, to me anyway, profile as a 200 innings a year guy. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Need the wins regardless. I agree totally. I'm just saying the Twins have owned us for so long that beating them now when they're down is like picking on a mentally-challenged kid.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) I've been screaming about getting Viciedo up here forever. I'll admit I was a little late on the De Aza train until I saw how good his nuubers really were at Charlotte. The entire baseball world was on the Viciedo train. And what's sad is that he would still be at Charlotte had CQ not gotten hurt. Even with a September call-up, his playing time would be sporadic at best with CQ healthy.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Tad bit high! Regardless, Sale and Santos are just stupid good right now!!! They're not Venters/Kimbrel, but I feel rather confident when either enters the game. Kinda bittersweet with Sale, though. He just seems destined for the bullpen long-term. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) It feels so empowering to beat the Twins. Not this version. This team is terrible. It'd be a lot sweeter to beat them when they're actually good.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) No, I haven't come to that conclusion. See: my fantasy keeper team. Making statements like "he's going to win the next 4 Cy Young Awards" in this era is silly. Starters, without "help", seem to be nearly impossible to predict. Plus as a past caller to our show pointed out, Clayton Kershaw is the f***ing man! It's happened before. And guys that should've won didn't because of the past belief that pitcher wins were indicative of how good a season a pitcher had. Those days are over. Strasburg is a saber dream come true. And that's the direction the game is going in. Felix Hernandez doesn't win the CY 10-15 years ago.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) No. Of course not. But adding the caveat "if he stays healthy" at this point is nuts. We all know Strasburg has elite, oh my f***ing god talent, yet he also predictably went down almost immediately after entering the bigs. Do you want to see Mark Prior's awesome peripherals from 2003? Those matter about as much as Strasburg's. I see. So you've already come to the foregone conclusion that Strasburg will never be healthy again. And if I don't come to the same or similar conclusion, I'm on crystal meth. Gotcha.

QUOTE (bozzie @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Nothing changed today, Northside; it changed this year. Suddenly, Ozzie and Kenny's petty little fued has spilled over onto the lineup card, the playing field, and the team's record. For this, both should go; but probably only one will. And that will solve the problem until Kenny has a problem with someone else. I answered your question, Northside, but noticed you haven't answered mine: Can you point to a stretch of two games - hell, gimme 1 game - where Dunn hasn't been "dung" this year? Didn't think so . . . Well, he did have a 1.556 OPS on April 2nd.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) J4L, you're so annoying with young players. It's like any mildly to incredibly hyped rookie has to be pissed on by you to claim your territory. We all know about these guys, projecting them as the next coming of christ and freaking out about them to ridiculous levels just makes you look silly. Do I really need to post Strasburg's peripherals from last year? The guy was virtually unhittable from day one.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Didn't Johnson get hurt and miss half of this season? Yeah, he's been out all year just about. I was just saying that he didn't have to compromise his stuff after TJ. Which is what SS2K5 was alluding to. He just got hurt again.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Its that slider though. Throw Kerry Wood into that same group. I assume you have zero confidence in Chris Sale as a starter? If you're this skeptical over Strasburg's long-term outlook then you have to be considering Chris literally disappears when he turns sideways compounded with his violent delivery.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) That's the thing, the only way he stays healthy is if he gives up something ala Liriano. That remains to be seen. Josh Johnson was arguably a top 3 pitcher in baseball from Sept '08 through last year. This after TJ.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Normally, I'd disagree and have a comeback about how even with great stuff guys still need to learn how to pitch, look how Verlander took time to adapt, etc. Except in this case, I think my comeback is wrong. If he were to somehow be the guy he was last year non-stop, I don't think he'd ever be regularly hittable. He'd have cy young challenges from guys who had great years, and that's it. And in this new saber-era, you won't have abominations like Bartolo winning the award over Johan in '05.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) He will never be healthy enough to even contend for the Cy Young for five years in a row. I'd be willing to bet he doesn't even hit the innings qualifications at least once, if not more, during every five years span of his career. I said if healthy. That's the only roadblock.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Like he knew that Rios was going to return to being bad...? Rios had a very good 2010. Where was the warning? .684 OPS after the all-star break after an .878 OPS before the break. That could be construed as a warning. Though nobody could've truly predicted this kinda sucktitude. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) But saying Strasburg is penciled in for the next 5 CY when the league features Halladay, Lee, Kershaw, Lincecum, then young Braves hurlers, Josh Johnson etc... is a bit much He's that good. Maddux won it 4 years in a row.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) The fact that one of the best hitters if not the best hitter in the International league didnt make an appearance on the roster until the end of Aug is egg on the face of this organization. We are a below avg offensive team, and NOTHING was done to correct this. And he's only here now because CQ got hurt.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) You are the biggest Monday morning quarterback I have ever seen. Yeah, sure. Now go back to telling us how Alex Rios is not really that awful.
-
Last time I checked, neither the Tigers or White Sox were known for their second half runs. I get that we just swept a god awful Mariners team and won last night against a Twins team that I don't even recognize. But we've seen this movie before. They're going to HAVE to beat Detroit. And when I say that I'm talking a minimum of 5-1 against them and play pretty much lights out against everybody else.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Uh, who gives a s***? Did that stop us from spending money in the offseason? Nope. Did we give up anything of importance? Nope. That was a move that COULD have had awesome results, it didn't.. oh well.. it wasn't a bad move by any means though.. Maybe that $4 million could've been spent on the draft? And it was a terrible move. A washed up steroid abuser, one who had been on the DL multiple times? Just sign Thome for $1 million and there's no need for Manny.

Some of you guys are gluttons for punishment.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) KW gets a pass on Manny and Dunn as far as I am concerned. Manny was acquired for nothing and was at the end of his contract. Dunn was by all indications a perfect fit for the Sox. Rios was underperforming in Toronto and had a bad contract there. Peavy benefitted from the same stadium that made Linebrink seem competent and was coming off of a foot injury. A new GM needs to be put in place as soon as the season is over as there are some big things that need to get done. $4 million bucks for 20 games or so is most definitely something.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) He should be on the hot seat. Swisher 1 and 2, Tony Pena, the Jackson trade, Teahen, 2 albatross contracts (3 if you add Peavy). Don't forget Manny.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) I have to take one pitcher and one hitter at least. After that it can be any combination. So you'd take Romero over Uggla? I'd go with Romero. Uggla is a guy you could probably get back in the draft anyway.
