QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) Maybe this will remind KW this team isn't as good as he thinks it is... I hate defending KW. But I don't think he believes that anymore. Knives won't suffice during a shootout. KW likes to think he has all these cards to play. He just doesn't. Notice you never hear about potential prospects by name from our system in any trade rumors? Because there's nobody to name.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) The White Sox are waiving the white flag due to This trade if they don't do anything. They don't have to trade Q to wave it. As of right now, I'd say us and the Braves are the big losers this deadline (of the team with October aspirations).

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Matzek is a complete and utter mess. Go look at his numbers. It shocked the hell out of me when I saw them earlier this season. I know. He'd probably walk me if I faced him. 12.5 BB/9 is unheard of. But he's 20, left-handed, and the stuff is legit. He's gotta get those walks under control.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:03 PM) If this was Ubaldo 2010 I'd be scared, but they gave up their top guys for a guy you don't know if it's just a bump in the road or last season was an aberration... Plus switching to the AL, that's a lot to give up. Other than the small dip in velocity (he's still hittin' 94 consistently), there's nothing not to like about Ubaldo. He immediately becomes the second best pitcher in the central.

So the Rockies top arms are now Maztek, Pomeranz and White. Damn.
-
Kudos to the Rockies GM (who's name eludes me) for selling ridiculously high here.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) Yuck. I'd rather have Pomeranz and White. That's definitely a steep price.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) There certainly is...a win today and a big lead tomorrow would go a long way... The next two games won't impact whether or not anymore deals are made. If KW can get a suitable haul for Thornton, he's outta here.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) It's only one tiny piece of their future and they'd still have Danks for next year too and can work on extending him. 3 of their top 4 prospects are pitchers and weren't included in my trade. It doesn't work that way. Extend him? What? 5/75? When you already have a guy on the cheap that can give you similar production and very well improve? And then you want to toss in Peavy?
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) Danks is better right now . Costs more but hey you're a contender , you want pitching? Here's 2 starters for 1 of yours. 3 quality ML pitchers for your WS run. Unfortunately for us not every GM dismisses the future for the present. No way Texas even considers that.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Of course he/she makes a good point but I think we should just ignore that logical approach and instead focus on the constant stream of reports from national writers that have the Baves targeting corner outfielders including Quentin by name. It doesn't have to make sense, dammit. I had totally forgotten that Prado can play LF.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) What killjoys. They should ban excessive yelling at big plays too. Don't want to strain the vocal cords and whatnot. Dumb. You support the wave?
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) A lot of playstation trades here Even playstation would reject some of these proposals. You gotta go back to Turbo Graphix 16. Maybe even Atari. They might approve.
-
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) M Perez will be a STUD in the Majors.. If the Rangers want Danks, give us Perez. Yes, let's trade that "stud" away for a guy a year away from FA.
-
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) Would do anything to get Heyward on the Sox I'd do anything for a night with prime Heather Locklear.
-
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) I would be willing to trade Danks and Thornton for M Perez, Holland, Erlin and the other Perez kid... I forget his first name though. And the Rangers executives would die from excessive laughter.

Sweet jesus will people come to the realization that Rios is going NOWHERE!
-
That Braves fan makes a good point. Where the hell does CQ play?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) Tigers get Fister and Pauley...not good for the Sox Fister is pretty underrated. He should fare well in that park. Where you hearin' this?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) Braves going hard after Marlon Byrd now, which makes a ton of sense (more than Quentin does, sadly) lol. Byrd? C'mon now, fathom. Byrd ain't no difference maker.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) Also it's worth thinking...every single potential competitor for the Braves has made a move to try to solve their biggest need. St. Louis grabbed some starting pitching depth and bullpen depth, Brewers grabbed bullpen help, Giants and Philles grabbed big bats. Standing pat for the Braves is basically throwing in the towel. They lost McClouth to the DL yesterday, so that's another spot filled by a random warm body from AAA. This just in: J4L and Balta agree on something.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) Beckham, Sale, Santos, Viciedo. That's 4 major league/near major league players. And then KW would have to be quarantined. But I was referring to prospects.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Who is to argue though, ya know? You are definitely right, but this is probably why they are the best run organization in baseball over the past 20 years. Meanwhile, we can't wait to trade any prospect. I would normally be in total agreement with them wanting to hold on to their prospects. But come October, when it's time to potentially face Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Oswalt, Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, you better have your clips full. That offense is not good enough as constructed. They need another bat. They've already got Hanson, Jurrjens and Beachy as long-term mainstays. They could more than afford to deal one non-Teheran prospect. I don't want Minor, though. For me, one of Delgado/Vizcaino would be required.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) Yesterday when the rumors that the Rockies wanted Scherzer + Turner for Ubaldo, I just laughed. Scherzer is arguably as good as Ubaldo right now. They are both the same age. Even if Ubaldo is better, it's not appreciably better for the Tigers to include Turner. Rockies are idiots, and probably won't trade him cuz they have an over inflated perception of how good he is. The Rockies are doing exactly what they should do. He's under team control through 2014. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever for them to trade him aside from getting a mind-boggling haul.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) If this was true, wouldn't all their pitching prospects be gone? Good point.
