  1. I wonder does Alex however you spell his last name (Blue Jays GM) mock KW?
  2. And here we go again. Another offensive suckfest appears imminent.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) Well he missed an entire year of baseball and development because of a terrible injury. I think it's fair to say he was going to be rusty the first year. I don't believe he will be an All-Star like I thought possibly once he was drafted. But to write him off as organizational filler is inane. I didn't say that. I said he's been awful. And I'm not giving him an automatic pass because of the injury. I didn't expect him to be Mike Trout. But his performance has been quite discouraging.
  4. Sweet Jesus. Brent Morel has a worse ISO than Juan Pierre.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) I am overwhelmed by the staggering profundity of your artfully crated retort. Yes, the guy coming off a terrible injury, and who by the way has started to hit quite well lately, and was already known to be raw on drafting him... is "awful". Thanks for adding to the discussion. Not everything requires a detailed synopsis. It's like with Adam Dunn. The numbers speak for themselves. Mitchell has been terrible all year and has showed no signs whatsoever of improvement. You can only play the injury card to a certain degree. He's not whiffing at an Adam Dunn-like rate because of the injury. One of these days the White Sox will stop drafting football players to play baseball. Frank Thomas was an outlier.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Baseball America's Not So Hot Sheet: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...11/2612126.html Mitchell is awful.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 12:05 AM) I think people forget how this board was before the World Series. It was "worse" than it is now. Fact is, if you can't put up with pessimism, you're not going to put up with Soxtalk, and this has always been true. Not really much different now, so I don't see the need for the attention seeking topics. I'll say this for probably the 6,000th time. Probe a Yankees, Mets or Red Sox message board. That's the definition of extreme pessimism. You can definitely see that most of the posters here don't realize there are other boards besides Soxtalk.
  8. My name is Jordan4life, and I officially hate the phrase all-in. I despise it. I want to kill those two words.
  9. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 01:33 AM) Dad to Son: Son I want to talk to you about your report card. You got a D in Geometry. Son to Dad: Becky next door got a D in English. Dad to Son: And how does the girl next doors grade in English remotely have anything to do with your geometry grades? Still trying to figure out how a discussion on The hitting coach automatically links the pitching coach in. Hey comparing Jamarillo to Walk, sure valid they do the SAme thing and it's apples to apples. Hahaha. This is the analogy of the year.
  10. Wow, Adam seems pretty damn defeated. Even if you really feel this way, don't let it be known. Or don't hint at it, at least. But I will say, as many others have, Dunn does care. Guys like Alex Rios and B.J. Upton are the ones that make me want to hurt small creatures.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) You're just going to make excuses for anyone who has had success under Walker. If you want to say Gavin Floyd is a feather in Don Cooper's cap, Carlos Quentin is a feather in Greg Walker's cap. We won't even mention Paul Konerko and how much he credits Walker. Aaron Rowand, even after playing in Philadelphia under Charlie Manuel said Walker is the best hitting coach he's ever had. It would be nice to have some success with the players from the Sox system, guys like Josh Fields, but I don't know how you could put that failure on Walker. They obviously weren't prepared well enough getting to the big leagues and no one has been able to help them since. Alexei is far and away a better hitter than what the scouts thought. If he is what they thought, he would have signed for a lot more money. DA, your consistency is to be commended. I can appreciate that. You never deviate from how you feel (greg). But at some point something has to be done. Otherwise nobody would ever get fired in any profession. This offense has grossly underachieved for some time now. Not just this year.
  12. Jacoby Ellsbury is nice. That, my friends, is a leadoff hitter. One day before I die will have somebody of similar quality. Oh yeah, we took Lance Broadway instead of this guy. But, of course, hindsight. It's ok to fail because of this.
  13. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) What about over the last 300 PAs? Yes, he had an abysmal April. I'd have to do the math to disregard April. And that's too much work for me. Just because he's not April bad doesn't mean he's good. JP has been below league average for a LF for a while now. Save 2009 when he didn't play everyday. This is key. JP as your #9 hitter is fine. JP with 700+ PAs is no good.
  14. Even with JP's supposed 'hot' streak, he's still dead last among everyday LFs in wOBA and wRC+. Yes, he'll go on a singles binge every now and then. But to give Ozzie credit for seeing to it that this guy is in the top three or so in PAs? No.
  15. JP is still dead in my eyes. When you make as much slappy contact as he does, some hits are going to inevitably fall in. I'd venture to guess his BABIP is well over .350 since May 1. Bottomline is he doesn't produce runs. His one tool, speed, has deteriorated considerably. An extra basehit of any kind is out of the question. And then there's that throwing arm.
  16. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Holy cow. His defense is so great though, but that is a red flag. I wouldn't say great. Adrian Beltre is great. Morel is average to slightly above average.
  17. QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Pittsburgh is actually a team I've thoughts we could trade with. Last night on baseball tonight they said Pittsburgh would be looking to use some of their young talent to get some help to make a second half push. so here is what I have come up with Pittsburgh gets; OF Carlos Quinton - a big bat they need need in the middle of their line up SP Edwin Jackson - a #2 or 3 for their rotation 3B Brent Morel - a young guy they can have. We get; 3B Pedro Alvarez - they have some competition already there. Their GM said that the spot wouldn't be just handed to him. So now might be the time to get him. He has a good glove, big bat, and huge arm. CF Gorkys Hernandez - a speedster with a great glove. Is batting. 300 in AAA. And. 340 the last month. Is more for next year. Has good base stealing potential Then have them name 3 untouchables from their Was and lower teams and then let us choose 2 prospects. This way viciedo gets called up. We get a legit 3B guy now, and we got CFer for next year Ummmm, no. We'd have a better shot at landing Verlander.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 05:12 PM) And don't forget the White Sox! That means we'd have to win the division and upset the Red Sox (I think they win that division). Not seeing it at all.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) It's not like he's changed anything at the plate. I think he was hitting the ball harder in April, but he's just gotten a few more bloop singles/bunt singles/infield hits the last few months. He sucks. I'm not a pro scout or anything. But I've seen enough to know, IMO, this guy is not a regular at this level.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) Yeah that's a middle of the pack NL pitcher at the plate. Thing is, 3B production is down considerably all around baseball. There's only about 4 or 5 really good ones. A few alright ones. The rest is trash. But Morel is not even trash. He's below trash. Whatever that is.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Let me rephrase..."That is all we needed. Anything beyond that would be a bonus." Coming into the season, I'd have said that if we had an .850+ OPS from Dunn, and .825+ OPS from Beckham, and hell, a .775 OPS from Rios, along with decent numbers from Quentin, I wouldn't care if Morel was hitting .220, he wouldn't be deciding games with that bat. If you'd told me that Dunn and Rios would have OPS's below .550 or wherever they are now, then yeah, I'd say Morel's O would be hurting us...but only because no one else is hitting the ball either. Whoa. I think you're letting Morel off the hook. Yeah, the more proven/talented players you mentioned have sucked ass. But I'm not letting Morel off the hook. You shouldn't, either. A .553 OPS is unacceptable no matter the circumstances.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) I don't think the Sox have given up on Morel. He is a quality glove man. Problem is we have Teahan there too plus Vizquel can play 3B as well when needed. Might make sense to send down Morel thiough if push comes to shove with Viciedo, but I don't see that happening. Like with Brian Anderson in '06, all we needed was league-average or even slightly below league-average production from Morel and, combined with his defense, you could play him everyday. Like with Anderson, Morel is so bad offensively that whatever he gives you with his glove is negated by the fact that he's as worthless on offense as I was when I was messing around with lighter fluid the other day, set a small grass fire, and tried to put it out by spitting on it. I was, of course, drunk.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) Absolutely. Hell ask for more, just because they are the Yankees. And according to Heyman, the Yankees won't part with any of Banuelos, Betances or Nova. Nova? lol. I don't buy that at all. If true, have fun with that rotation sans C.C. against the Red Sox and Rangers come October.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) So he's under contract for 3.5 more years. Yeah, the Rockies could have asked for more. Their top hitting prospect, top two pitching prospects and another, to this point, serviceable starter who's all of 24? Should they ask for Cano as well?
