QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I personally think Thomas would be the ideal hitting coach for the White Sox. He was a complete hitter. He knew how to hit for power, hit for average and have patience at the plate. He obviously had a great approach at the plate and seems intelligent enough to pass along his wisdom to other players. On a more personal level, I would love the big man to be back with the Sox full time. I don't think KW's or Ozzie's egos would ever allow that. They've obviously buried the hatchet (mainly KW and Frank). But I don't believe for a second there's not some animosity between the two. KW would never go for Frank of all people coming in here and doing something his guy couldn't do. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) Honestly, I'd rather have Humber pitch than Buchholz, Gio, and maybe Romero. Every time Humber goes out there, I feel extremely confident in the Sox' ability to win that game. His peripherals may be a lot less impressive than his ERA and WHIP, but until he starts regressing, I'm going to remain confident in his abilities. The only flaw I see in him thus far is that he tires pretty easily. Once he hits the 90 pitch mark, his stuff starts deteriorating and he gets into trouble. Like I said, Gio is a lock. If not Gonzalez it'll be Cahill. Romero has been pretty damn good. I just couldn't see Ron Washington going with Humber over Romero if it came down to it. Buchholz would be there regardless because of the team he pitches for. I guess PK is the guy we have to blame. He was supposed to regress. lol. He's been as good as he was last year.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) Humber ranks 8th in ERA and 5th in WHIP in the AL this year. He has surrendered the 5th fewest walks of any qualified starter in the AL, 6th lowest avg. against. If only his strikeout numbers were there with the league leaders he would be a lock for the ASG. SP in the AL is just too deep. And I don't think Humber has that league-wide recognition as of yet, even with the great numbers he's putting up that you've alluded to. To put it in perspective, which one of these pitchers would you boot in favor of Humber? Felix Verlander Weaver Haren Pineda Beckett Lester Ogando Price Sabathia Shields Gonzalez Romero Wilson Buchholz Those are starting pitchers I came up with right off the top of my head. Now obviously all 15 of these guys aren't going to make it regardless. Felix, Verlander, Weaver, Haren, Beckett, Lester, Price, Sabathia should all be locks. Not only based off of their performance this year, but their proven pedigrees. James Shields and Michael Pineda have been flat out better than Humber. I don't think anybody would question that. That leaves you with Gonzalez, Romero, Wilson, Ogando abd Buchholz. Gonzalez will be their simply because you have to take at least one guy from each team (not that he's not worthy). Wilson and Ogando, or at least one of them, will be there because Ron Washington is the manager. Romero is on his second consecutive really good year (he's even better better than last year) and pitches in that beast of a division. Then you're left with Buchholz, who's a 'name' and pitches for arguably the second most popular organization in baseball. There's just no way Humber would be able to overcome all that unless he threw a perfect game and forced the rest of the baseball world to take notice. I'm more than fairly certain that nobody outside of a White Sox fan has recognized the great year Humber has had to this point. He just hasn't been doing it long enough, nor is he viewed as a premium talent (like Pineda) and is not a 'brand' name.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) Konerko is virtually a lock. Although, with AGon, Teixera or however you spell it and Cabrera, it might be tough. Humber has earned it also - though he most likely will get snubbed. A really good 1B is going to be left out in both leagues. The position is insanely deep this year. Adam Lind and Gaby Sanchez should both be there. But you can't have 5 1B on each roster. The only way Humber would sniff the all-star game is if he were on a team like the Padres, in which case you're required to take at least one scrub that has no business being there (not that Humber has been a scrub).

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) I actually spent a few minutes on The Score last night arguing with Rongey about Pierre. I was on my way home with my family after an early dinner, and felt compelled to call in. He and I went at it for a good few minutes. lol. Was that you that brought up WAR and how Viciedo would probably add three or four more wins to the Sox over the course of a season? Of course, Ranger's response was the White Sox aren't going to dump Pierre because they have to get some sorta return on their "investment." And that there's still value in a guy that can hit .290.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) And Cubs fans actually think Barney is a good baseball player because he is batting .294. That man is a bad baseball player. It's similar logic to the White Sox fans who think Juan Pierre is still good even when he hits .290. Honestly, is there anybody left who thinks this? I guess ranger, Chi Soxix or however he spells it and el rockin. Greg depending on whether the moon is full or not.

I know I say this EVERY year. But if Ramirez or Escobar don't win the AL GG I will do something tragic. I'll do something that will make this board famous.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 06:29 AM) The Sox are going to have to beat the Twins one way or another. Regardless of whether the Twins are actually in the race - they apparently will be - the Sox have to make it a priority to beat those f***bags. f***ing 0-4 this year, 5-13 last year...you think they might get the concept that this is THE team you have to beat. Yeah, no, of course not. ALWAYS CATCH EM WHEN THEY'RE PLAYING WELL (with a AAA lineup and a garbage pitching staff) I should clarify. I figured when the Twins were 16-33 that they were done. If we're playing the Twins in September and they're 12 games out, I don't think we'd have a problem beating them. There's no mental resolve involved in beating a team that's already out of it. But if we have to absolutely beat the Twins, that's what scares the s*** out of me. Because we've never done it save game #163. They're f***ing 1 game behind us in the loss column. That's mind-boggling. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 06:31 AM) I looked at the projected All-Stars and remembered why I hate fan voting... Derek Jeter is slugging .324 (Juan Pierre is slugging .300), Alexei Ramirez is better at basically every facet of the game, and he's probably going to be watching Jeter start the game Check out this piece by the great Jeff Passan when you get the chance - http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ApKs...ar_snubs_061911 We very well could see Felix Hernadnez, Tex and Bruce left out. Which would be a travesty. Baseball really needs to do away with every team requiring one player and letting managers pick more than one of their own players.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 05:49 AM) Well, soft is putting it mildly. He's frustrated me his whole career with his insane athleticism early on, only to be average at best defensively.. (hell, I still think he could of been one of the all time greats if he only had 1/4th the effort to try to be an all around great player. Had all the tools, even the fortitude to have the ball in his hands with the game on the line) Was/Is just a very lazy player. Vince + Kobe or KG's work ethic and drive = a top 5 player ever. No doubt in my mind. Rasheed Wallace is another guy that comes to mind. He should've been a perennial MVP candidate with his size, length and skills. -
QUOTE (bulokis @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) That trade was awful. We did not get anything after we gave up gio, sweeney for swish. You could use the term "awful" to describe every trade KW has made for the last three + years. Fortunately for him, we're in a second-rate division. But now that the 20 ton elephant that is the Twins are right back in this thing, it appears once again that will have to beat them when it counts. And I don't like those odds one bit.

Marlins interested in Ozzie Guillen (again)

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) In answer to your question, I think Ozzie is as good as any possible manager the Sox hire to replace him. Are you bipolar? At least try and be consistent. You've been shouting for weeks that Ozzie/KW need to be fired. Now Ozzie is as good as any possible manager we could replace him with? Then we're more f***ed than I could possibly have imagined. -
I'll say slightly more optimistic due to the progression of Reed, and to a lesser degree, Thompson. Then, of course, you have the evolution of Dayan. Other than that, yeah, it's pretty ugly.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) Pierre wouldn't deserve to play in the annual Soxtalk softball game I hope at least 10 balls are hit Dunn's way. This has a chance to be something special (from a comedic point of view). -
Daniel Hudson just bent KW over and violated him.

Who the hell keeps track of when certain posters do and do not post? I wasn't on last night because I took my father out for an early father's day dinner. Not because I didn't feel like posting due to being pissed the Sox won. lol. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Over the last 30 games, Rasmus is hitting .173, sub-.600 OPS. He'd fit right in. At least he's cheap garbage. Rios is expensive garbage. -
Kalapse, along with qwerty, are the greatest posters that have ever lived. I'm calling both of them out for not posting more. You guys suck!

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) As usual, don't let actual reality interfere with your hyperbole: Beckham last 28 days: .265/.351/.718 Perfectly acceptable for a 2B. What is it with you and singling out a week or 10 days of decent production and trying to overshadow what has been horrific production overall?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 08:25 AM) It's amazing how we looked like a team that would become a dynasty after 2005 and 2006 to a team that looks to quickly become a cellar dweller in the division. Yes! And this is where 95% of my rage comes from. The opportunity was there to literally take over this city. I don't know what the f*** happened between the all-star break of '06 and now.

I used to despise gay people when I was younger. That's what I was taught. But gay/lesbian people are some of the coolest folks I've ever met. Their perspective on certain things is rather refreshing. And I think it takes a lot of courage to be who you truly are when you know you're going to get scolded by, well, everybody. I hope this clown gets fired.

Guys that are becoming legit prospects

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) Key not to rush him though. He looks like a guy who can be a legit above average reliever with a shot to close. Great stuff and spectacular numbers. Yeah, I should've said after he gets a little more run in AA. I don't think AAA will be necessary if he keeps this up. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 05:59 AM) Oh, you're so persecuted! How do you find the strength to carry on? Give me a break...you are such a drama queen. Yeah, that's exactly what I was trying to do. Get Soxtalk to feel sorry for me. Maybe you all will go out and send money to my favorite charity now (send it to www.Jordan4lifeneedsmoreforties.com). I'm held to a different standard and it's obvious. I've created, what, three threads all year? The JP "you are terrible thread." The thread after the debacle that was the A's loss last week. And this one. I'm not creating negative threads every day. And for a respected administrator like Knight to act like this is the worst thread of the year and go to the f***ing ESPN board when there's multiple ridiculous threads made every day, yes, I think what's going on is rather clear. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 03:58 AM) WTF. What kind of horses*** is this thread? Take your hate and post on ESPN where no one cares about posting quality. lol. Are you honestly going to tell me that of all the threads that have been created here over the last year or so that this is the worst? I understand that I'm the new standard when it comes to negativity and pessimism. Therefore I'm looked at differently. I've gotten multiple nasty PMs over the last few weeks of posters tellin' me that I'm an asshole and that I can go "f*** myself" and I just let it ride. I'm not even going to say who sent them. I don't roll that way. It just bounces off of me. I will always speak my mind. Long as I don't cross that 'line.' -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 03:44 AM) This team has been stagnant for the past 4 years...it's really time to make some sort of change. KWs attempts have failed on all levels. Ozzie is more of a roadshow anymore. There HAS to be a change soon...some sort of shakeup. But no...it's always status quo. I'm beginning to throw Jerry in the mix of people I'm really starting to get sick of...DO SOMETHING you old f***! This is going to sound REALLY cold. But Jerry is 75. He's not going to be around, whether it be baseball or life in general, much longer (no, I don't want him to die). A new era of White Sox baseball is coming. I'm looking forward to it. -
